I see in the Bizzard's web page that they are working harder on PvP, which makes me happy.
@IIVikingII No I mean like in a relatively small area with roman arena style traps. Waves keep coming at you and you keep going till your team dies. Fundamentally yes you're still killing monsters but they're coming at you weather you're ready or not. Plus the environment, while likely static, would be different from what you get in campaign.
Basically what he's talking about at around 7:00 is battlegrounds. And I completely agree. Battlegrounds, besides possibly being very fun in D3 pvp, also give players a chance to learn pvp through larger, respawn objective based battles. Not to mention you'll need to take a break from arena gameplay which was frankly pretty stressful in wow.
Jay Wilson is the MAN. I absolutely LOVE what he said at 9:10 especially. It was SO frustrating as primarily a PVE player in WoW after arenas came out it seems like every god damn patch was buffs/nerfs to classes based on arena bullsh*t. Thank god somebody at Blizzard understands how ridiculous that is and won't let it happen to D3. Don't get me wrong either I enjoy PVP too. But changing the entire game based on pvp is stupid.

They really should have an area where you can go into, and you are automatically flagged for PvP no matter what, like a free roam area to fight other people in a zone just for PvP. I also really like the idea of TDM because of the fact that you don't die permanently in the match
@eyphix The thing is that its the principle of the matter. As a business u cant just go around insulting certain customers, no matter how small of the total population they are, just because u feel a certain way, its called being professional. If i still played wow (i was a pve guy but did do pvp too) i still would reconsider my paying for the game because of how the staff seams to be to the customer
I love Jay Wilson, I died at lvl 80 in Hardcore PvP in D2 and I think it fun. I think there should be some way to PvP with perm death and some way without it. Like a special duel against someone and the winners takes the losers gear. Or something like that.
@tymoney321 I agree with this 98%. The 2% I disagree with is that they actually are putting SOME effort into balancing PvP. Too lazy to find the exact time, but in this interview, Jay says that they have special PvP versions for skills that alter cooldowns, CC duration, and maybe some other stuff. It's not much, but it's something.
Personally, the entire premise behind PvP is the depth of gameplay it brings. You have a very skilled player, unique character builds, and an ever-changing liquid forum to enjoy the game. End game for games like the Diablo series has been very "bland"... except for PvP. Once you beat it through, you know the story line. But after that the mechanics open up for Hardcore gamers...

its because people want to have fun mastering the game in pvp and having some kind of reward for their chosen styyle of play. which is perfectly reasonable to me, i would love something like the wow arena style in diablo 3.
Hoard mode would be really awesome!
Hardcore PvP sounds fun and crazy. Maybe in team vs. team one person on the losing team is randomly scrapped... that would keep the tensity up but lower the body count.
@8bitBeardyOne it's going to be so important that they are going to find ways to make an approachable PVP system even in Hardcore. The only thing Jay Wilson is saying here is that in terms of SKILL BALANCES, priority will be given to how the skills will react in PVE, he doesn't make mention that they won't balance PVP, and that they won't 'ENCOURAGE' it into an esport. BW wasn't directed/focused to be ESport, but it still rose to become one from private interests when Blizz still did the balnc
Was hoping that they'd run a both casual and hardcore version of PvP, i'd love it if the PVP was like wow arena, and blood line champions :D

@EpicBiscuits that might make sense if both games were the same genre, but as it stands diablo 3 is not in competition with starcraft 2 It is entirely possible to be a fan of one and still a fan of the other

@Skimmy15 You in turn just summarized the attitude of most (not all) pvp dedicated players, since when does prioritising PvE over PvP make them care less about their community? The Answer is it doesn't you just get upset because it isn't what you wanted to hear. Not everyone shares you opinion of what caring for the community is, I happen to think creating great PvE content and planning for future content while not charging for subscriptions to pretty caring towards the community.
@magicdevil09 You make a valid point friend, however i just find it sad when so many people get bent out of shape because they want the developers to change their philosophy on their game. I'm all for a better PvP system but not if its going to be the driving force behind the rest of the game. I think what blizzard wants for diablo 3 is to have all the cool ideas for classes without having to balance them or possibly not implement them because it would make PvP unbalanced.

Its not that they are 'mad' about it, its that everyone will want them to balance it for PvP (taking away from the PvE balance time) because its their game.
And just because it isn't their focus, doesn't mean it isn't going to happen.
@musicmann008 IMO he really didn't mean the "shut up pvp guy" literally to say they hate the pvp players. If they really did they wouldn't even have added arenas to the game. I think he was just putting satirical emphasis on the idea that the diablo III team will always favor PvE fun and excitement over PvP balance, even if the PvP players are being very vocal and threatening to quit.
Idk if anyone else would think this but, it would be great if they did a wow style bg for diablo 3 pvp, where its like say 8 on 8 or 15 on 15? ctf, domination stuff like that idk. I just think it would be bad ass if they did a dota style for diablo 3 pvp.. You wouldn't get points for gear or anything just something fun.
make hardcore tourney for gold bets (blizz gets a rake) and port players to some arena in some dimension of heaven where it makes sense you can be resurrected infinity or alternatively be pwn for your life in some area outside of heaven... maybe for a choice of 1 gear item of the other player upon permanent death

My thoughts exactly.
PVP may have always been in Diablo but that's not the main point of Diablo and I am glad he said that. To me its about killing, loot, and most of all a epic story that will kick u in the face and say fuck u my story powns if u don't lick it well screw u. I will always love the story and I am glad that it progresses and hasnt changed from from the first Diablo.
You should add a mod of hardcore pvp. Like 2v2/3v3/5v5 where that is very similar to wow, that in the future could be an E-sport. Please do this.
@koryman102 because you see a lot of pve games doesn't mean they don't play pvp. I played for 4 years and about 99% of my games also consisted of PvE: Finishing acts myself, rushing, grinding, MFing, and trading. But the motivation always came from PVP. Personally, I've never met someone that played purely for the PvE. Maybe now you see a lot of new players because of D3 who like the PvE. But it will get old and they won't be playing it for nearly as long as PvP players.

PvP has always been in Diablo. It just didn't look like what they are doing now. There is a large community that will and has always enjoyed PvP. The main game does focus on PvE, however, PvP has clearly been a part of the community.
@koryman102 I came back here cuz after some ppl seemed surprised about that when i told them, i got curious of how many views this video has gotten, and i expected much more than 40k :O

now that Jay Wilson confirmed that they do not try to adapt d3 to being an e-sport, when it never was designed as one, i congratulate the d3 developement team for this decission. it is hard enough to balance a pure pvp game properly.wow thaught us very well how problematic it is to provide balanced pvp with a pve game.
@WNxManiacMan so true about the pve, and yes I would like to see a bit more realistic stuff, all of it is looks dull. Im not hatin on what your saying. Its just to me pvp these days are getting a bit dull looking.

Wait so if they can balance the skill separately for pvp and pve how would pvp balancing effect pve at all? You could even remove certain abilities from pvp similar to how sc2 doesn't have all the pve units in pvp

@gabe228 That is what he stated, and it is a valid goal. But "almost" all of the D2 community that is still around and has/will support the game IS PvP based. PvP IS the only end-game that D2 has. PvP therefore should not be "thrown out with the bathwater." That D2 community is basically the only thing that will support this game about 3-5 years from now. To deny that system pretty much all together and at least not have ranks... they are just setting it up for a rather big battle later on.
Jay Wilson. Man you are so fucking lucky you added the RMAH. Seriously, i know so many people who play only because of that. That saved the game from dying the first 2 months.
...One idea is that the hostility in the field can only happen only if the challenged player accepts, or only on maps where According to the creator is the occurrence, so everyone can see that the map is to duel or hunting or whatever (to die!) and could not get in Opit. This should be placed under debate and sent to Blizzard, taking into account that for more than a game is good, and this is, Blizzard has to admit that she can not help (it fails!) In handling the beginning or hacks ...

The hostility in the open is a problem for me because as a seasoned player games in general and D2, but it serves for fun a few times in softcore, but hardcore in my friends ... It's a really nightmare, generates in most cases accidents , hatred, intimidation, isolation, and many unpleasant things to the game. Many friends (I'm included) do not even set foot in something that is not run or trade, or do rush in D2 hc hell...
There will be PVP rankings.
So being good at the game will yield you only slightly better than losing non stop, I don't understand what would stop people from chain losing to progress at that point.
Fix some kinda PVE styled pvp :D like Defending a city while waves of monster that grows harder and harder keeps coming, and then it comes like some kinda bosses or smth would be awesome.And u have some human guards fighting for the city by your side
I would play PVP in an e-sport setting even if i had to play a witch doctor with a bow. No matter how different it was from PVE. The characters don't even have to have the same damn skills. I just want some damn pvp.

@TheJoe209ca I was at blizzcon 2011 and played the shit out of D3 pvp. It is SOOO freaking fun. They dont know what they have. People are going to LOVE the pvp and they will have to cater to the demands of people. People will want more from PVP in D3. I jsut cant believe Blizzard, being the successful company that it is, thinks that they can only get away with only PVE in a game. Games have evolved these days and we are more connected than ever. Call of duty, Halo, arenas, Dota, all competetive.

@lol245525 You must have misinterpreted my comment because I'm glad they're just implementing the arena to help out the D2 dueling scene, but aren't trying to make this a e-sport or even balance it around pvp. In d2, hammerdin was pretty insane but eh no on QQed too much.
If they are having a pvp column in these "snows", wouldnt it be easy to balance the pvp and pve by just changing the values of a skill for pvp?
D3 best game ever!!!!! its bot free, lag free, listens to player and best of all they support fun
PvP is the best part of every game, PvE is just a way of getting the feel of your character imo

@eyphix But the thing is that although he may not of meant it literally people WILL take it literally. When talking about things that deal with a public one really should stay away from statements like the one he made because it really just makes you and the company u work for look bad.
still no pvp today. Everything is dumbed down with huge stats stacks. Huge numbers. 500 K HP. 55 million crit damage...
What kind of PVP do you expect from this kind of core?

@rukiskidd I totally agree. The reason they are pushing PvE so much is because of the influence of WoW. People who are actually supporting the economy, gaming dynamics, and helping to encourage the game balance and growth--those are the hardcore gamers. The "accessible" gamers they try to support are only going to play the game for about a month, until they move back to WoW, SC2, or some other game. They should not base the majority of the premise of end-game mechanics on the "ease" of noobs.
love his reasoning. ill say it plain to ppl that just dont get it: Diablo is and always will be PvE. pvp is great too but thats just it - its a bonus (like in D2). dont waste time an money going 1/2 way. commit to 1 and if u can maintain the other aspect great! but dont compromise pve for pvp. esports playas can buy sumthin else if its that big of a deal tp them
