More often than not it will make you feel worse about the cards you use to value unless you get a 10, is wildly inconsistent, and tends to reinforce the terrible notion that the only cards worth collecting are the ones that can be sold for decent money.

I agree, I've been in the hobby for many years. I don't just collect pokemon. I have tons of tcgs all over my house. My wife's favorite pokemon is jigglypuff and for Christmas I got her an 8.5 jigglypuff because it was a good deal and much cheaper than any other listing on ebay. It's the first and only graded card in my house.
I don’t even care about the condition of any card that much unless it’s super bad, never understood why people put such a premium on it. It’s not that type of scarcity that matters to me.

I'll say it again for the people in the mf'n back... We as a community can value RAW cards just as valuable as we value 10s. If its Mint it shouldn't matter that it has a dumb case with a number on it. Mint is Mint PERIOD!!!
If I had the money I'd buy it off Radar and crack it and get it graded at PSA, and then crack that and send it to BGS. Then I'd send it to Rudy and see how his grading company does. (and then I would send it back to CGC to get it reholdered into the 10 by sending in the plastic and the cert even though I know they wouldn't take it back). Would be a fun experiment to see who is honest (none of them are, grading is subjective)

I'm not gonna lie the pristine 10 slab is sick but everything else the changed was super questionable. Like getting rid of sub grade and getting rid of the blue in favor of the boring looking black color
I've never been a slabs person, but i've recently bought a binder that have 3 slots for slabs and i don't want to have empty slots in my binder so i'm now the proud owner of 3 graded melonys
The reason why psa is better is they dont associate person submitting to the card. They grade all equally. CGC you get it personally graded. Thus its a biased grading especially since the ceo is standing over your shoulder.

Just wanted to share I’m pretty sure this was a CGC 9.5 that bumped to a 10. So could’ve been a 9.5 with 9 edge or corner subgrade and with the updated grading change was converted to a 10. If I’m wrong lmk
Nice you finished your sun and moon tag team cards I gave up after the boom I was convinced I would pick up the super chase cards once the cards drop but they only ever went up. 😢 I m happy with S&V cards so i m not that sad about not completing SM but who knows maybe one day. Idk if you noticed but in japan lots of psa9s are actually sold far bellow raw cardprices and i ve even seen some psa10s being lower than raw versions of the same card( maybe it was just a listing mistake ). I wonder if we see something like that in the western world aswell soon. Grading modern feels weird especially japanese cards.
I love my PSA slabs and not defending them by any means because they have their fair share of issues too but CGC has completely fallen off the cliff. This slab should not be able to be sold on the market ever.

Just a classic quid pro quo. You get a 10, we get promotional content. They've been doing this since they did their influencer video on their new slabs. I hope it backfires when it sells for no different than a PSA 8 or 9, and just cements their reputation as dog poo.

CGC is so bad. People love CGC because they don't actually want true and consistent grading. They're just smooth brain people who pop a little chub when 50%+ of their submission comes back as 10's when they know they're not.

Most people who grade will breaking the slabs and keep sending till they get the 10s. CGC not helping either with there shady shit lately. I love CGC and I use them for all my submissions. I’ve graded hundreds of cards with them and have got on average 75percent Gems mint / pristine 10s. I have never gotten a gem mint or pristine 10 that has whitening on the back or corners / edges that is visible. This is a huge mistake on CGC’s part and really disappointing for me as I use them mostly because of their strict grading.
It’s a 9 at best but I’d personally say 8-8.5 but it is a beautiful card one I probably will never own radar isn’t that big of a creator in my opinion I do like his podcast and him as a person tho but I’m with you on this Idc really I haven’t graded in awhile but I did win an auction for psa 10 sars of the paldean region starters in Japanese and in sequential certs and I 1000% stole it in my opinion won the auction at $59 but I like binders I don’t grade that much and I don’t buy slabs to often either my New Year’s resolution is to focus on being a sealed collector and just buy certain singles for my binders
If cgc didn’t have another level above 10 i’d agree 100%. We already know ppl hope for a better grade (one lvl higher at very least) going with cgc over psa. Do we know how many times they sent it in to get (re)graded? Slabbers are pretty notorious for 10 hunting.

Aesthetically it doesn't look like a 10, it looks like a 9. But if this is still how (hidden) subgrades tally the final overall grade, if 3 subgrades hit a 10 and one hit a 9, that's still a 10. Whether that's 9 or 8 levels of whitening for the subgrade idk. Now are the optics bad? Absolutely. Personally, I'm a binder collector. I only grade cards if I'm looking to sell them and there's a significant premium for a 9 or 10 vs NM.
@@OpossumBud I know a guy who used to grade for the sports division of CGC, CSG, and he told me they had to submit subgrades whether the customer paid for them or not lol. The difference was if the customer wasn't getting them on the slab, your accuracy only really mattered on the subgrade that pulled it down the most since that set the ceiling for the overall grade. And not all subgrades were factored equally in assigning the overall grade. Not sure how much things have changed since they revamped their scale.

I just started doing some grading with Beckett and I like them for grading tough and having subgrades. I’m not grading to make profit, just to encase cards I really like in my collection. Plus the chase of a Black Label is fun/impossible
As smpratte says, buy the card, not the grade. Always, always inspect what you buy. That’s the great thing about recent serial & their scans nowadays, you can check the high res for any issues. I still stand by grading, I’ve graded hundreds and never had a problem. But this shit makes it harder to defend it.
I totally agree with you on your statement about grading. I myself would not want to send my cards threw the mail no matter what I use to work with UPS. I remember how we packed trucks with packages wasn't always a gentle thing sorry I was young and dumb but trust me when I say it hasn't changed just saying 😮
Pika zek tag team is the best pika card out there imo , it’s the last card I need as well!! Turns out friend was selling his bgs 9.5(pretty much raw mint) for great price and just picked up earlier today 🥰

This is a community where a bunch of different people do a bunch of different things. People deserve to know what companies will do if they plan on using them.
My favorite card I got in 2023 is probably either the Silvally GX FA from Cosmic Eclipse, or more recently the Blastoise ex SIR I got yesterday, both pulled myself, and both some of my favorite arts
Graded cards are overhyped! I love my raw/unslabbed cards. Nothing against ppl that wanna have their cards graded and deal in that, just not my preference. Yes, I understand that a card being graded a 9 or 10 is going to be worth more than the same card that is ungraded. I just prefer my cards in the raw state.
I absolutely despise the youtuber influencers getting thie exceeded treatment from grading companies to boast the company. Imo if they would just keep in straight for everyone the company standards would speak for themselves in the collector world

Standards in 2024 are about as rare as gem mint 10 Pikachu illustrators

Aesthetically it doesn't look like a 10, it looks like a 9. But if this is still how (hidden) subgrades tally the final overall grade, if 3 subgrades hit a 10 and one hit a 9, that's still a 10. Whether that's 9 or 8 levels of whitening for the subgrade idk. Now are the optics bad? Absolutely.
Personally, I'm a binder collector. I only grade cards if I'm looking to sell them and there's a significant premium for a 9 or 10 vs NM.
Oh the subgrades they took away the option for because new CGC? 😂 I’m sorry homie but that card would never be a 10 any other time with that whitening
@@OpossumBud I know a guy who used to grade for the sports division of CGC, CSG, and he told me they had to submit subgrades whether the customer paid for them or not lol. The difference was if the customer wasn't getting them on the slab, your accuracy only really mattered on the subgrade that pulled it down the most since that set the ceiling for the overall grade. And not all subgrades were factored equally in assigning the overall grade. Not sure how much things have changed since they revamped their scale.

Feels like CGC and PSA will give out higher grades if the person submitting has close ties to the grading companies. Or a big time influencer that can put the company out there for more exposure and lately CGC has been doing it aren't they?

I just started doing some grading with Beckett and I like them for grading tough and having subgrades. I’m not grading to make profit, just to encase cards I really like in my collection. Plus the chase of a Black Label is fun/impossible

As smpratte says, buy the card, not the grade. Always, always inspect what you buy. That’s the great thing about recent serial & their scans nowadays, you can check the high res for any issues. I still stand by grading, I’ve graded hundreds and never had a problem. But this shit makes it harder to defend it.

I totally agree with you on your statement about grading. I myself would not want to send my cards threw the mail no matter what I use to work with UPS. I remember how we packed trucks with packages wasn't always a gentle thing sorry I was young and dumb but trust me when I say it hasn't changed just saying 😮
Pika zek tag team is the best pika card out there imo , it’s the last card I need as well!! Turns out friend was selling his bgs 9.5(pretty much raw mint) for great price and just picked up earlier today 🥰
CGC was a place I was going to send stuff into but they also just had a huge comic book scandal just happen, that and this makes me not want to grade my stuff

90% of "collectors" wouldnt be in this hobby if not for grading being a thing. Lets face it greed is the number 1 motivation for most of these people and its lame as fuck

Grading is more for investing. The lower the amount of 10s for that card the more it's worth. Just don't grade if you don't like it. Problem solved.
This is a community where a bunch of different people do a bunch of different things. People deserve to know what companies will do if they plan on using them.
My favorite card I got in 2023 is probably either the Silvally GX FA from Cosmic Eclipse, or more recently the Blastoise ex SIR I got yesterday, both pulled myself, and both some of my favorite arts
Me personally I still like sending cards to psa. I like them in slabs 😊

Graded cards are overhyped! I love my raw/unslabbed cards. Nothing against ppl that wanna have their cards graded and deal in that, just not my preference. Yes, I understand that a card being graded a 9 or 10 is going to be worth more than the same card that is ungraded. I just prefer my cards in the raw state.

Imo if they would just keep in straight for everyone the company standards would speak for themselves in the collector world
