I'm so torn. I absolutely love The Emperors New Groove, but after seeing this and hearing "Snuff Out The Light", I really wish they would've let Kingdom Of The Sun be made. I love animation, and I can tell just from the roughs that the animation would've been beautiful.
I kinda want a complete verison of Kingdom Of The Sun.

@Pacho 1581 What do you plan on doing? What do you think about the idea of Kingdom of the Sun being modified into a prequel to The Emperor's New Groove instead of being made into an alternate version/director's cut? The idea would be to have Manco be Kuzco's great-grandfather and Oozma (renamed Yzma) be Yzma's great aunt. The story would have to be slightly altered so it isn't too close to The Emperor's New Groove. Maybe have Manco be a llama for a scene or two and then have him turned into something else. Also, maybe make Supai be Hades just with a different name for the Incas and have there be a connection to the Atlanteans (due to a scene in Milo's Return) and also the Sundrop flower.
It’s just too bad that Disney can’t go back to their traditional 2-D animation because I lovedEmperor new groove back in the late 2000s!

If Disney did a Live Action Remake of The Emperor’s New Groove, it would be better if it was actually the story of Kingdom of the Sun. But I would still keep the charm of what made The Emperor’s New Groove a good movie

As a pervivan myself, i am so proud of my culture and seeing it displayed on a Disney movie made me so happy and proud growing up.
This movie isn’t about about Peruvian culture, it’s about pre-Columbian peoples. Even if it’s incorrect, they’re displaying Quechua culture.
@@selenagomezacapella The main character’s name is Kuzco. Do you know where Cusco is? The Incas and the other pre-columbian cultures that coexisted at that time are part of Peru’s culture aswell. The Quechuas are also part of our neighbors cultures since we used to be a big Empire called the Tahuantinsuyo.
@@marcellam.9688 - There is no singular Peruvian culture and not every Peruvian is Indigenous or Quechua. Unless you’re Quechua or Indigenous, this is not your culture.
@@selenagomezacapella I understand your point of view but we have different conceptions of culture. To me countries have cultures so I do believe there is something called Peruvian Culture as in, the result of the mix of ethnicities that live or lived in our soil. This is what we learn in schools and even if we are not all "indigenous" as you point out, we value, respect and live with it since almost all of us have it as heritage. It is present in the way we speak, the food we eat, our traditional dances and festivities. From your conception is like saying: if you are not still living like your prehispanic ancestors did then it´s not your culture and I´m sorry but that´s just off to me because many years have passed, we all latinos are a mix of bloods, but we still have a culture we feel we belong to.
@@marcellam.9688 - Indigenous people are still alive and preserving their cultures distinct from the overall general Latino populations who have fought assimilation and mestizaje. Homogenizing them erases them and puts them in a box with people completely different from them.

Because he didn't start off as depressed, except for the sad jungle scene in the final movie. Heck, Manco doesn't seemed depressed in any of the animated clips either.

This was a brilliant video! The Emperor's New Groove is still one of my most favorite childhood Disney movies to this day. I still laugh and have a great time watching it. Great job on detailing this hilarious story and its journey!
For another idea, may I suggest Atlantis: The Lost Empire? I've heard interesting creative and story-driven elements that were put into making this film, such as creating an original language for the people of Atlantis, as well as unique characters and lore design. I just think it would be a fascinating movie to dive into and learn how it came to be.
I feel that for kingdom of the sun to have worked, it needed the team from Aladdin.

Yeah, but I think what would have also made it work is Allers and Dindal agreeing on going with one type of story for the movie rather than having constant disagreements and making two different movies. Since Allers started the project, it would have been good for Dindal to minimize the "entertainment" factor and let him take the lead.
@@YumegakaMurakumo What interesting to note is that Roger Allers was listed as story artist for the Mickey Mouse short (the Prince and the Pauper) which is what Kingdom of the Sun is kinda based on. Roger would eventually direct (the Prophet) which is a very serious animated film.
I honestly would like to see the kingdom of the sun be complete and we get to see what the original story and idea would have been. I just like the history of this project, along with another project that sadly never got made called Me and My Shadow.
Emperor's New Groove was my high school art teacher's favorite movie. She would play on the last day of school before any of the breaks. I even drew the scene where Kuzco said "It's a good thing you're not a big fat guy or this would be really difficult." for a free drawing week. I let her keep it since she loved it so much.
According to an old colleague at my last job, who is ten years younger than me and is now attending the same high school I went to, told me that she is taking her art classes and that I told her about it and said it's still on the art teacher's desk to this day. lol
I wonder if my old art teacher knows about Kingdom of the Sun and if she does, how does she feels about it.

Awesome video! I've always adored this film! So underrated (but not amongst my friends and I), but I had no idea it had such a crazy backstory! This movie will always keep me laughing!

Also, Emperor's New Groove is one of my favorite Disney animated films from the Post-Renaissance after Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet.
I am personally someone who seriously prefers a good story over comedy, and despite how much I love New Groove, Disney really screwed everything up. You can't just interupt someone's passionate work when it's already halfway done!
If you make a comedy, make the comedy the priority. New groove is my favorite Disney movie because it understands that. I wouldn’t trade the final version for anything.

I remember seeing this movie in theaters. Loved it. Still one of my favorite movies along with Atlantis the Lost Empire (also in theaters)
The Emperor's New Groove was one of my childhood favourite movies, and I still love it to this day! Kingdom of the Sun did sound decent, but I'm glad we got The Emperor's New Groove. It was the perfect example of a protagonist learning not to be so selfish on others... even the villain. I love Kuzco, Pacha, Kronk, Yzma, everything about the movie, no matter how underrated it is to this day!

I remember watching some videos and interviews on the behind the scenes history of Emperor's New Groove when it was called "Kingdom of the Sun" and also how it was meant to be a musical drama before becoming the film we know now, I also recall that Andreas Deja (supervising animator for Gaston, Jafar, and Scar) was set to be the animator of Yzma and was set to be more serious than the Yzma we know in the actual film even animation reels of Yzma singing Snuff out the Light was shown. Sadly Deja left the project to work on Lilo & Stitch, given the change of the film from a musical drama to a comedy and felt that the tone in the latter won't work for the serious Yzma
I didn't know that Roger Allers (co-director of The Lion King) was set to co-direct Emperor's New Groove before being leaving the project due to disagreements with Mark Dindal regarding the tone and vision of the story and with the Disney executives.
Lastly, quite surprised that David Spade and Earth Kitt were the ONLY cast members to remain during the development of Emperor's New Groove, much like how Jason Bateman remained involved during the development of Zootopia back in 2013.

The Emperor's New Groove is so awesome that even though I wonder how The Kingdom Of The Sun would be, I'm happy for what we ended up having.
Every time I hear the original plot for Disney movies I like the sound of the original better than what they end up making.

I can't imagine what it might have been like for Roger Allers to have his ideas sidelines and thrown away like that and then watch another director and the team he started with work without him and get credited for something that included elements of something that was his idea. And then Sting is another guy I feel so sorry for. All of his work thrown away, and they had the nerve to ask him to make more songs. Oh gosh!

Hey I got here super early! And yay, emperors new groove!
People say they want Kingdom of the Sun, but it sounds like it wouldn't have been good. They state how poor the screenings were, and how even the storyboard team themselves said they didn't understand the story or characters.
Also, the setting sounds very similar to DreamWork's new release at the time, The Road to El Dorado.
People are responding to say the Disney executives should have offered an extension etc, but if you've not worked in films you won't understand how hard the entire process is when setting up the concept, storyboard and script. 10x harder for animation studios I imagine.
Maybe the execs could have offered an additional six months, and it would have worked out. But I doubt it, considering the amount of extensions the project had already been granted and it was still in no position to be a good film.
You've also got to consider, Disney were still in the Renaissance but aware it was coming to an end. As stated in the video, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tarzan & Hunchback all made money but considerably less to Lion King, Mermaid, Beauty & Aladdin. Meanwhile, Pixar were being appraised for their use of storytelling and cgi animation.
Disney were not in a place to take risks, and Kingdom of the Sun was too big of a risk to take.
That doesn't have anything to do with the fact that people would still want to watch this movie as Kingdom of the Sun.
The fact that 8 songs were discarded after they were already done and that 25 percent of the animation process was already done is also tragic, especially for the director that had been given complete artistic freedom.
Having watched The Road to El Dorado, I have to disagree that it would have been too similar, the little snippets we got in this video makes clear that they're very different, unless you're talking "vibe" (?)
Also, the story itself makes a lot of sense, I just feel like the romance didn't have much room and they were still trying to fit it in, but basically: Emperor finds peasant who looks exactly like him, they switch places, Yzma does evil, Emperor is turned to llama, and they both try and succeed to defeat her. The end.
I would have watched the hell out of Kingdom of The Sun, even if I absolutely adore The Emperor's New Groove, it could be its own thing with the same names they were going for, completely unrelated to The Emperor's New Groove, but that's just wishful thinking.
What irks me is that Allers was 2 years into developing his vision of the film (an drama-epic with musical elements) and the Disney Execs got cold feet and decided they wanted it to have some comedy, so they pigeonholed Dindall into it. So of course it was gonna be a thematic mess!
Although, I can understand why the original idea was ultimately canned... thematic issues aside, it did suffer from an over-complicated plot and a surplus of central characters. Too much for a feature-length Disney film. However, this DID have the potential of being a cinematic-quality animated miniseries! Too bad that Disney+ wasn't a thing back then...
I enjoy "The Emperor's New Groove" and am happy to have it. But part of me still longs to see Allers' original vision through, which was three years in the making before being radically retooled...

I would have loved Kingdom of The Sun, but I'm glad we got The Emperor's New Groove, it's one of Disney's funniest movies honestly. It's just a shame they just scrapped Kingdom of The Sun without a second thought.

Try telling the story of "Dragnslayer", a Disney live action fantasy horror which dedicated 25% of its budget on building animatronic dragons.
I wanted The Emperor’s New Groove to be a musical buddy comedy with Kuzco and Pacha as still teenagers, a love story, and some fun musical numbers including some comedic musical numbers like a comedy musical number with Kuzco, Pacha, and some singing llamas!
the same thing happened to rise of the guardians after the disappointing performance at the theatrical release it gained popularity through home video market.
When you unplug an old fashion 1980s video games. All records and memories of charcecters going. And plug it back in new copies of the characters come up.
So when sugar rush was plugged back in. Wouldn't new copies of all the characters come up.

Would it be a reach to say this story reminds me of the persona 4 parody comic where Sting is in place of Yu, Rodger Allers is in the role of Nanako, and Eisner is Dojima.

The Emperors New Grove was just ok. I think I would have preferred and really liked Kingdom of the Sun.
Its kinda ironic that Owen Wilson was originally cast to be Pacha, who would teach an arrogant person to not be so arrogant, when you consider Owen Wilson would go on to voice a an arrogant race car who learns not to be arrogant.
