To be honest, I’m not actually sure it is wasted.
Although perhaps not on par with modern PC standards, both Clinton and Obama called from a ‘barrier’ and tighter border control, respectively.
Clinton hopped on the PC bandwagon to gain the votes of an egalitarian generation (18-25) who beforehand weren’t interested in politics. Despite many of her ‘newfound views’ not agreeing with her previous ideologies.
Also, perhaps Trump never meant that the Mexican state would directly pay for the wall. Perhaps he meant that changing trade agreements which benefitted the US would garner profits, at the expense of Mexico, that would be used to construct the wall.
Its never as 2 dimensional as it seems.
