- This week on Building Charles James:
I am Buying a new 14" JET JWBS 14-SFX Band saw
What is the best 14" Band saw on the market?
I had some tabletop planks that needed to be re-sawed for a project that I am working on and my Rockwell 12" band saw was just not going to do the trick. I needed to think on my toes and setup up my 14" band saw knowledge so I called Jesse at Eagle Tools to let me know what he had that would help complete my job. It was time to upgrade my band saw.
Here are the Band saws models that ended up narrowing down to:
Laguna 14/twelve Band saw or the Laguna 14/12
Jet JWBS 14-SFX Band saw
I the reason that I chose the Jet 14" Band saw was because of the 2 Dust Collection ports and the stainless ball bearing blade guides. Other than that they both were so close. I am all about dust collection and will be making some more videos with that as the topic in the near future.
Until please check out my links below, ask me questions, make comments and I will see you all next time!

My toss up was Powermatic, Laguna and Jet all intended on the Powermatic. When I went to Rockler and saw the difference with the Jet vs Laguna, I was sold on Jet. Mainly because the Powermatic needed a riser and Jet was one piece. Bought and set it up this weekend and love it.
Yes, Thank you for letting me know. I really like my Jet and still think I personally made a great purchase for my business. Please update me in a few months with your thoughts on your machine, Thank you Wes!
Awsome video, I need to get myself a bandsaw
Hey Nick, Well go get one. This video was my journey to find the correct table saw for me. So I hope it helps you on your journey to get the swa you need! good luck
Buying this one this month
Woodcraft has it in their Black Friday ad $200 off
@Timmoore7258 Did you end up buying it? If so what are your thoughts?
I love that you own a toyota and not any of the big three. I respect guys who drive the mid size pickups.
@evilredBoris I have been driving Japanese vehicles from my beginning. Thank you and I appreciate your love for them as well. Thank you for watching my content friend.
@@CharlesJamesdesign Japanese vehicles are just reliable and well designed
How does the saw do with the 3/4" Resaw King, are you still happy with it? I have the same saw, and want to be sure it will handle the 3/4" before I buy one (they also offer a 1/2"). Did you feel like you were 'maxing out' the saw's tension on the 3/4"? I notice that the tension indicator looked 'beyond' the 3/4" blade line. Thanks for doing this review. Liked and subscribed.
Hey Fred, I still like my saw and it's been doing everything I have asked of it. I did but a 115 blade and I noticed it was a little tight, I was not sure if the tensioner slipped off the post when I was filming or not but I was syncing the blade was tight enough. I am very particular with my tools and I always make sure the everything is working properly be for I use anything in my shop. I have both 3/4" that you saw and the 1/2" plus a few others now. I use them all for different materials thicknesses and densities. I am extremely happy with the 3/4" carbide resaw king it cuts like a dream.
Thanks for the informative video! Thinking of laguna vs jet as well. How’s the bandsaw holding up after a year? Any changes? Any new insights?
John, besides changing blades and having to clean out the bottom of the base that was full of saw dust. Not much has changes from my views of the table. I did really understand the hose system in the internals and think it could use some improvement. The table top is amazingly large and I feel mostly comfortable cutting anything but a 4x8 sheet. As they are really sketchy solo manning. Motor + Construction are holding up really well and the melamine out-feed table is slightly scratched from used but holding up. Overall a great buy, and still working as anticipated.
I will make a full in-depth video per your question.
@@CharlesJamesdesign Thanks much for the reply! It helps!
Can you tilt the table when making cuts?
Yes you can tilt the Tabletop up to 45 Degrees. I have not yet had to in anything that I have been working on. So I can give you a personal account on how it performed when tilted. But I certainly will run into that on a future project and I will certainly share my experience with you.
doesnt this saw take a 116" blade? does your laguna 115" fit??
The saw takes a 115 blade.
Did you consider the rikon 14?
Sipho, thanks for the question. At the time no I didn't consider the Rinkon 14" 1.5Hp Bandsaw. Just by first glance I can see that there would be any benefits or negative aspects. One the construction choices with the laguna + Jet both have more ridged exteriors. But as far as the saws performance could potentially surpass the market or the two that I referenced. Thank you for pointing this unit out!
What's the model number of the blade you used?
I missed this comment I used the Laguna Tools Resaw King Carbide Band Saw Blades - 3/4" x 115" the product number is Item #52882 on Rockler
The Harvey is superior to the Jet, period.
Don, thanks for leaving a comment. I really have wanted to look into Harvey tools. I will see if I can get some in the shop and I would love to send out a review and tell you what I think. I appreciate you and your advice.
