There was a time when the Pakistani cricket team was flourishing but then came the Tablighi Jamat. In the late 1990s, Tablighi Jamat influenced some Pakistani Cricketers to work for them and that had a big impact on their cricket in a big way. Now Pakistan Cricket Board doesn't select 11 cricketers they select 11 Maulanas to play for Pakistan in a way.

I've noticed a comparable pattern emerging in educational institutions in India, recently a teacher faced suspension for preventing a student from reciting religious slogans such as "Allah hu Akbar," "Jai Shri Ram," or "Glory be to Jesus." While I hold the view that it is entirely appropriate to recite these slogans within organized religious assemblies.

Unlike Pakistan, Indians prefer players in their national team or IPL from their own territory/state, irrespective of religion or anything else. Of course, everyone likes special talents. But that doesn't mean those talents aren't there or can't be cultivated in other territories. In the present Indian team you'll see players from Gujurat, Delhi, Chennai, Bombay or Hyderabad. No one from Bihar, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and the north east states. Even very few players or none in IPL from these states.
