Bacterial cell wall structure

  • This video describes the basic structure of a bacterial cell wall. All bacteria cells have at least a few, if not many, layers of peptidoglycan. In it, sugars are linked together in multiple rows. Protein cross-links (vulnerable to antibiotic action) connect the layers. Lysozyme can break the sugar connections. Gram negative bacteria have an outer lipid layer in addition to peptidoglycan layers. Most bacterial pathogens have capsules to prevent phagocytosis and potentially to aid in adherence and invasion. www.sciencewithsusanna.com has diagrams, notes, and practice questions.

    In the picture, you drew capsule at the wrong position. I believe it supposed to be outside of the peptidoglycan cell wall.
    This is the order for gram positive from i side out: cytoplasm- phospholipid bilayer plasma membrane- Thick peptidoglycan cell wall- capsule
    For gram negative- cytoplasm- phospholipid bylayer plama membrane- thin peptidoglycan cell wall -additional llipopolysaccharides outer layer (LPS) - capsule.

    The plasma membrane was supposed to be where the bilayer phospholipids are! So it would be cell cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall ( made of peptidoglycan) and the capsule

    But i thought tht in the same layer of peptydoglycane there is two types of linking
    One is made of 4 amino acides and one is made of 5 amino acides
    which links the the first nam to the second nam
    The third amino acil of the first peptidique chain linked to the interpeptidique chaine which is connected to the fourth amino acil of the second chain
    But all of this is in the same layer 💔😢
    So how are two layers connected ?!
    I really don't get it
    Plz answer me

    • @afoxrest
      @afoxrest 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the interlinking is always seen with NAM of one layer with NAM of another layer between the 4th amino acid group(D-ala) by cleaving the 5th one(which also contains d-ala) and 3rd amino acid group of another layer of NAM by the pentaglycine crosslinking. I didn't understood why she linked the NAG of one layer with another.
