One of the most powerful of his pieces. The arrival at bar 123 is incredible. Xenakis was at his best mid 70s to late 80s, and this is amongst these great works.
The orchestral works of Xenakis always have some massive effect, either the glissandos of his beginning or the heavy confloicting blocks of his late style. The works for small or medium scale ensemble, especially when there is a concerting instrument (here an amplified harpishord), are much carefully crafted. This is a good example of that kind of writing. Note that, in spite of the abtract and mathematical image usually associated to the name of Xenakis, here he takes care of the very tiny sound of the harpischord, and the writing is quite idiomatic to take it into fuill account.Nota also that, as many works by Xenakis, there is an obvious ideological background in that piece (The island of Gorée was a major place for african slave trade), but by no ways it is expressed in the music by 'illustrative' musical signals in a neoromantic style.

Élisabeth Chojnacka (harpsichord) = correct. Hans Kerstens (in the description) = incorrect; should be Huub Kerstens (conductor). Ensemble Radio France = incorrect; should be Xenakis Ensemble. 🙂
Simply a hater. You've said negative things about at least one other Xenakis work as well. If it's not for you, why bother listening? Do you enjoy listening to music that you find unpleasant to the ear?
Way more conventionally beautiful than I'm used to with Xenakis.

Exactly.
I heard it live last night. Nice to look at the score today . Thanks
He mastered the counterpoint, polyrhythm and instrumentation
then he composed one of the greatest chamber works of the era.

Imagine each of the orchestra members practicing their parts at home
No, don't - for your own sake. I took part in the UK premiere in January 1987. It is a masterpiece - but that was not a merry Christmas!
@@simonwillscomposer1579 THATS AMAZING 🤣🤣🤣🤣 And I know the feeling, I practiced a Boulez sonata for 3 months straight!
I love this gorgeous piece
Just as the sub in BDSM loves being made a fool of.

Great piece, must be hell to perform on the harpsichord though, the keys being so light.
well, this is probably the best use of a harpsichord in about 300 years, huh?
In my opinion, Ligeti's Continuum for harpsichord is exceptionally better.
Such a nice amusing piece!
You wouldn't happen to have the score for Xenakis' Keqrops or Synaphai, would you? It would be awesome to see those up on youtube.
i have synaphai ... but it is a bit too complicated and big too upload unfortunately
so good...

Are you dyslexic?
He is a xena-lectic!
Splendid!
Happy Xenakis! Never knew this existed... thanks!
Τhere is a whole cd with Xenakis compositions for harpsichord and percussion/ensemble : ERATO MUSIFRANCE 2292-45030-2
C'est excellent !
Splendid performance!
Qui sont les interprètes ? Élisabeth Chojnacka, l'Ensemble Radio France dirigée par Huub Kertens peut-être ?
Yes
Élisabeth Chojnacka (harpsichord) = correct.
Hans Kerstens (in the description) = incorrect; should be Huub Kerstens (conductor).
Ensemble Radio France = incorrect; should be Xenakis Ensemble.
🙂
Does anyone else hear some recollections of Keqrops in this?
Definitely, Xenakis self-borrowed a lot of stuff I think, check out Shaar (1:30-ish ) and Ikoor (4:00-ish)
Xenakis style of EDM
Don't forget to tune your instruments.
sounds like a dog whistle trying to make a dog deaf
Maybe you're the deaf one? It doesn't sound like that at all.
@@nickstorring It does though...
