    Thank you for demonstrating this. I have been thinking about this now for a while and thought that the chip must be programmable. I want to make my own homemade bluetooth speaker and give it the name of my speaker not the generic name. This is exactly what I wanted to do and now I know that these chips are not locked down but reprogrammable.

    Just a thought: how feasible is it to change the embedded sounds of the BT module? Now, that would be such an interesting project 👍

      different module but i saw someone who simply dumped the rom off the chip, replaced the sounds and reflashed.

    did you ever manage to upload a different sound for the BT activation on these chips? i recall Dariee mentioned somebody else was looking at it, but cant recall who.

    Great video, however a time consuming business if you have more boomboxes ;-). Maybe you can design an adapter with pogo pins. Have seen a guy that did similar with a modified clothespin with pogopins and wires already attached to it. Saves some time and you cannot make a mistake.

    Does the Bluetooth module have any noise or hissing when no music is playing?? It’s very common for CSR Bluetooth chips.. I’m wondering if this board has any weird noise issues?? Thanks in advanced 😊

    • @ScottMarley
      @ScottMarley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a slight hiss when the device first starts up, while it's not playing anything. The hiss disappears when playback is started or after a few seconds from being switched on. For me it's really not an issue as its not noticeable unless the volume in the amplifier is way up and it's being used in a very quiet room.

      Scott Marley Thank you for your prompt response! I’m wondering if a Ground loop isolator might do the trick to get rid of the hiss ...? Anyways thank you!

    • @satyagiet2
      @satyagiet2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have same hiss or noise problem, while integrating the Bluetooth audio receiver module (CSR57F68) with an amplifier & running from a common battery.
      But when I use two batteries separately for Bluetooth & amplifier,then there is no hiss noise at all.I mean a clean sound coming .
      I have checked in internet ,that it is happening due to ground loop noise.So by using a separate dc dc isolated converter the problem solves.Apart from this is there any other way to remove the noise.
      Any circuit design trick i.e coupling,power supply etc.

    I bought s64215 pcb only, without additional pinouts. That smallest ver. When i connected 4.2V to gnd and vbat it just heats, but no bt connection.
    I got a refund but maybe i'm doing something wrong? How to enable module after connecting power to it?

    • @ScottMarley
      @ScottMarley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I haven't used one of these boards by themselves before, however I think you might need to enable the MFB pin to enable the module. Have a look at this schematic www.electrodragon.com/w/File:CSR64215_basic_sch.png and you can see the startup delay circuit connected to MFB. If you don't want to make the delay circuit, you can probably just connect MFB to 3.3V (not VBATT!) and it might just work. I might also be completely wrong about all of this, I'm just guessing here!

    I can't figure out the pins on mine. I have GND, 3.3, and 1.8 in the same place as yours. Where you have CSB, I have another GND. And across from your MOSI, I read 5v! Any idea how I can figure out the other pins?

      Most chips are locked down and it's very difficult to change the name. Is yours using the same chip as this? (CSR A64215). If not, I have no idea how you would go about it!

    Hey man, I wondering if 3V3 and 1V8 means 3.3V and 1.8V and so where do I need a 10K resistor for the 1.8V ?

    • @ScottMarley
      @ScottMarley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's what 3v3 and 1v8 mean. SPI_PCM is the SPI enable pin and needs to be pulled up to 1.8V for communications to work. You would probably get away without using the resistor. However, this depends on the input impedance of the pin which I dont know. To be on the safe side the 10k resistor will limit the current going into that pin.

    • @ScottMarley
      @ScottMarley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried. In principle you could probably get it to work. There are instructions here github.com/lorf/csr-spi-ftdi for using the ft232rl chip (not ch341a), but it looks like far more work than just buying a csr one from Ali Express for a few dollars so I went down that route.
