Thanks, my cousin just have me 3 hens, and a rooster that she's had for pets. I am trying to hatch some eggs so I can get some younger birds going before these are to old. This is exactly what I was looking for.I like how you kept it short, and to the point . I'll be watching more, because I like quail better than chickens, so far. Take care brother
Thank you! I’m going through most of your videos and I’m considering getting into quail as a way to increase self sufficiency in rural southwest Florida. You make the entire process look simple. Thanks again
Every time I go to TH-cam to ask Qs about quails u pop up! Awesome! Thanks for ur videos. This is probably my 3rd comment on ur channel with in the hour
I really am enjoying binge watching you. I was gifted 24 Japanese cot. fertile eggs. So, now they are incubating. Thanks for great content how refreshing.
I got some jumbo quail hatching eggs at the auction. I talked to the lady the brought the eggs and I asked her what kind they were and she just gave me a blank stare and told me they were jumbos. the are 3 and a half weeks old and a few of the chests are turning solid brown but not many. I am sure I didn't get 80% female, how much longer do I have to wait to be sure so I can start culling the excesses males and get a couple of breeding groups? Thanks for the help.
Just hatched my first batch. Looking forward to producing some more. Do you have pictures of the Whites next to the Pharaohs when right out of the egg?
What if it’s past breeding season and you keep them outside. I missed banding my genders and I really am disappointed in myself. I don’t see foam on the ones I know for a fact are male. Tuxedos and whites are hard
I'm a beginner, but I thought Coturnix quail are always in season, with the possible exception of through winter, when the hens stop laying. It's only non-Coturnix that have limited breeding times.
I’ll just sit on a bucket and wait for our 6week old English Whites to crow, then I grab and separate the crower. They aren’t making foam yet. I’m worried the neighbors will get mad at the constant noise although it’s not as annoying as their barking dog.
Thanks for putting together this video. I have done some vent sexing on a previous hatch when they were about 6-7 weeks old with some success (although I was wrong on a number of them), but would like to be able to get an idea of the gender of my current grow-outs at 4 weeks old., so that I can separate the males into bachelor housing and more easily integrate the hens into the main flock in our quail tractor (we have our quail on the ground). Is 4 weeks old a bit soon? They are 3 weeks old now.
Yes, 4 weeks is a little soon to vent sex. Although, I know of a couple folks who can do it. Six weeks is much easier as some of the males start becoming sexually mature.
im have a hard time fining out why win i vent sex my birds that no foam come out for the rooster and i know there rooster bc the red chest .. but i hatch some a&m with them and the a&m rooster are not foaming either ... Idk if it would be there isnt 14 hour of light in the winter i know the hen will stop laying but idk if the kight mess with the rooster to ..... please help

Do you need to squeeze the foam out or can you just see a bulb and know its a male?

Don't be worried. If their dog is loud then they should have no problem with a few small birds. 😉
How much do you sell them for?
Thank you for this video!
Great video
What is your male to female ratio in your cages?
I try to keep it at 4:1 ratio for my breeders. Special projects are 3:1
@@CoturnixCorner how many total birds per enclosure? Like say you have 15 birds in an enclosure, would you have 3 males and 12 females?
@@hollywoodrodents2207 Yes.
@@CoturnixCorner thank you. In a 3'x2' enclosure, could you have two groups?
@@hollywoodrodents2207 Sure, you could do two 1:5 or 1:4 groups.
Great info
Does anyone know if the fawn/tan quail can be feather sexed like the browns?
If their chest is the same color of their back then they cannot be feather sexed
where are you located? do you ship quail? I'm interested in the white quails.

Are tuxedo feather sexable? I was to the best way to stop male fighting is to take male out early from females
But you can vent sex any of the quail , right?
Thanks for this sir!
So...does the "foam" contain semen?
Thanks!
Thanks Mr.
You're welcome

In the winter months the males will produce little or no foam unless you have artificial light to extend the daylight hours.
Great thanks
thank you!
Is getting their head plucked bald a good indication of a hen 😂
