Wow, Whitey Morgan definitely isn't mainstream, but he was one one of my husbands favorites! My husband was an extremely talented pedal steel guitar player & WM has a beautiful steel player, Also Whitey is from Flint, Michigan close to Detroit...maybe that's his rock influence.
That slide guitar is Brett Robinson. He plays an actual pedal steel guitar, not just a slide in a guitar. One of the nicest guys you will ever meet too.

I dont listen to country at all but this one is pretty fucking bad ass.
I can almost picture it as a soundtrack of a Tarantino movie.

I mainly listen to rock and country which some people tell me is an odd mix but there's more overlap than people realize in certain types of country. Country is nuanced just like any other genre but most people who aren't into it don't take the time to realize it
Not those van zandts. Townes is well worth looking into. Pancho and lefty is great. Snowing on Raton is pretty great. Idk... Waiting around to die is great as well
