This is everything I cover in a first guitar lesson with a complete beginner. It's based on what I've seen be very effective for someone just getting started on the instrument. What was covered in your first guitar lesson and was it effective for you?

I didn't have any structured lessons. My first 'lesson ' was an open D chord. Still one of my favorite chords. I think one of the most important things to emphasize to beginners is to learn the notes in your chords, not just 'this finger on this fret'. Too many benefits to list.

Agreed, it's SUPER helpful to know the notes in the chords. The reason I don't cover it initially is because momentum is important with beginners. So I try to get them moving and changing chords right away so they can see and hear something as close to music as possible. That helps inspire them to continue to move forward and learn more. Boredom and frustration can be the enemies of beginners, so it's important to set reasonable goals where they can play chord progressions as soon as possible, even if they don't know the notes yet. Thank you for watching and commenting!!

    This title sounds familiar. ;)

Oops - sorry about that! I just checked your channel and see what you mean. :) I got the title idea from Creater Hooks. They have some great ways to help folks like me think differently about titles. But I guess lots of them end up sounding like what has worked before. Cheers! :)
