I have that issue where the audio for guns for some reason, the sound fx volume is localized to where the bullets actually hit. So if I shoot into the aether, my gun is completely silent, but shoot at my feet and it’s normal .😅

Ya, but CDPR nails it with expansions. Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine, and Phantom Liberty are better than most games. They just need to start releasing games at the level of their expansions.
@@ScytheNoire Well, the base game is basically free, because of Game pass, so they have no reason to go easy on expansions. They want to hook you in with the base game and monetize later. Call of Duty is next.
Phantom Liberty should've free with how abysmal the game launch went.

@@keoki_ by the time Phantom Liberty came out, the base game had had very good performance for a long time, and the 2.0 update released alongside Phantom Liberty WAS free and added a ton of huge overhauls to the game, ostensibly getting it to the point where it finally fulfilled the promises made prior to launch.
I don't see why they should have ALSO made all the new content free, especially given how much money it cost. They literally restructured their entire studio based on the lessons of the original launch, and the quality bar of the expansion turned out to be absolutely incredible, with quite a few people arguing its content was better than the base game's.

Bethesda must be out out of touch and delusional to think they can charge as much as the Phantom Pain or Shadow of the Erdtree dlc’s
I like how when the city gates open, they're trying so hard to attempt an awe-inspiring moment with the music and all, while dude is just flapping his fuckin jaw nonstop
You jumping on a ship while waiting for them to finally finish talking is perfect showcase of how interesting the game is
Also love how you noticed they are even reusing summon magic animations/vfx from skyrim. That was very first thing i noticed in this DLC and it hurts my eyes
Reusing is not even a valid argument. Studios with multiple IPs are gonna borrow from other IPs for development time and cost.

The point is how bad it looks, that Bethesda reuses same effects, same animations from 10-15years old game. Just by looking at it you can tell it is the same and share same quality.
Even how stiff it looks, how you can see the tranformation and empty animation frames between states when model transforms. That lack of quality, that lack of details. They are literally still doing exact same thing 15 years later and Todd dares to say it is their best yet. When it looks like fairly noob fan mod project

People dare to defend Starfield saying Cyberpunk had much worse release and all (i did play it relesse hour so i know how it actually was), yet they fck lose it if you compare their DLCs. Guess what buddy? They are equally priced. Cybperpunk gave you next level, new locations, whole new game really with great story you will rember, top tier animations and voice actors.
While Bethesda gave you 15yo asset flip and junk that you have to make up lies in your head to believe it was even worth buying it

@@SpliffyHusk "Souls" fans are a special bunch, lol FromSoftware is exactly like Bethesda, they are making the same game ever since the late 2000s, barely improving the engine with time, recycling all the assets, charging full price anyway, etc.. we are supposed to "cheer" and "commend" this kind of stuff? If the price was right, the double A standard, I wouldn't mind recycled games like these, but we all know this is not how this industry operates, they cut corners at every opportunity and manipulate their consumers to defend the product at full priced and beyond (the Yakuza fans are very similar to "Souls" fans, they embraced the recycling with open arms)

True! Phantom liberty released 3 years after the initial release... a release that was was way more bad than Starfield. I Believe that Starfield might be something way greater than it is now in two more years if they continue to support it.

@@Pinstrus Cyberpunk was really only broken on the PS4 and XBOX1 platforms that it shouldn't have been released on... on PC, PS5 and XBOX1X & S it was relatively smooth sailing compared to other modern games (not to say that it's acceptable that all modern games come out with that level of bugs, but it's just become the standard). However Starfield was a significantly worse game when it came to story, graphics and gameplay mechanics. But most of all, it didn't bring anything new to the table, it was the same old 2011 Bethesda engine problems with nothing to even get anyone's hopes up for the future of the game after potential expansions, bug fixes and even the usually legendary modding community.

@@Pinstrus *IF* Bethesda continues to support and fix Starfield. What CDPR did by taking the blow to their reputation, being the butt of gaming jokes for the disaster of Cyberpunk 2077's release, sticking through it to fix the game up? That isn't the gaming industry norm. The standard practice with a bad release is fulfill the initial game pass commitments if there were any, and then kill support for the game. If there were no game pass promises, then companies will pull support real quick.
Look back at the history of old, unfixed bugs in Skyrim, Fallout 4 that remain unresolved. Last year I played Skyrim for the first time since the early 2010s. When I played, I was horrified on being reminded of bugs that were around from launch. Skyrim is Bethesda's baby. Their hugely successful cash cow. It's been repacked and resold a handful of times since its release.
Yet old launch era bugs from 2011 were still there in 2023 when I played again.
Some of us praise CDPR for fixing up Cyberunk 2077 to be the game that it is now. But we don't forget the state the game was in when CDPR released it, knowing it wasn't ready.

Bethesda hasn't completed that yet for Starfield. Don't go talking like it's going to happen. CDPR took shots to the chin, black eye to their reputation, and insult to their name while taking YEARS to actually fix Cybepunk. And they pulled through. Bethesda hasn't done that to their games since.... Forever?
ive never played starfield and honestly don't ever plan on playing it, but i have to say the dialogue in this hour literally almost put me to sleep
Seven dollars for a gun looking this basic with a reload animation THIS bad really rubs it in, doesn't it!

Even if the gun looks extremely flamboyant with one thousand frames of animation and whatnot, it still nonsensical to even consider paying real money for something like this. This industry desperately needs to be regulated, it crossed all the lines (if this "gun" and cosmetics are the tip of the iceberg, Roblox is at the bottom, more like in hell)

Plus, it’s like the voice actors don’t try to do anything to make what they’re talking about sound interesting. You go listen to the voice work in baldurs gate 3 and then compare it to this. Listen to astarion vs any of the characters in this lol. It’s not even close.

So much games on the backlog + those "sandboxy" games that never ends (goes as far to Call of Duty and Age of Empires 4, lol so many different genres that never ends, especially if you can mod them), there's no reason whatsoever to waste time with the current "triple A" trash anymore. This year had how many decent "triple A" games? FF7 Rebirth struggling with horrendous writing... and thats it? Overpriced Persona 3 remake, Yakuza weird rpg on Polinesia, Space Marine 2, Helldivers 2, Elden Ring DLC, etc... you can argue these games are on the borderline triple A level... even so, such a weak year. I know ReFantazio is not really triple A (Atlus is sure asking triple A money for it), but I hope this game can salvage the year, has potential to be one of the best jrpgs ever
The voice actor for Djmal Ka'dic is awful. She's just reading from a page, not acting off of it.
I love how her character just immediately breaks whatever thin scraping of 'flavour' the Snakey Boy Cult even has. Every other character we've seen so far from their group has the wonky accent, and they're this incredibly isolated and cut off group clearly, dead set against welcoming strangers.
So...she naturally doesn't even sound like the rest of them in the slightest. Like she's part of one of their noble houses but hasn't adapted or picked up any of their cultural nuances in all the time she and her family have grown up and lived among them. Really? Why doesn't she sound like the rest of them?

It's a shame this is a more recurrent issue nowadays it seems. I've watched the Mortal Kombat 1 "story" mode, the recent "expansion"... oh boy, Raiden and Sektor sounds like zombies through the whole thing, Raiden's voice actor especially, the dude is AWFUL. Maybe bad direction because his character is supposed to be the boyscout good guy, even so, just terrible. Super tryhard Sub-Zero "hurrrrr, I'm evil, hurr"
I mean, the head writer for Starfield doesn't have a competent bone in his body, so he certainly has no original ideas in his 'brain'. No surprises here.

It makes the stakes so frigging artificial. So laughable. @@Blisterdude123 The last time I remember the 'chosen one' trope really working well for Bethesda was Morrowind. Cuz it wasn't that you ARE the chosen one, it's that you COULD be... maybe. But ya gotta actually fulfil your prophesies... and they make it clear yer not the first to try. THAT worked for me.
Oh, and the Shivering Isles DLC for Oblivion was also an excellent use of the trope for - reasons.

But Starfield's use of it is just so lazy. "Howdy hi ho stranger, you heard a hallucination speak? You're the chosen one! Now you have to help us because writing is hard and I have neither the talent nor the time to write reasons for you to care about the people you have to help. You're the chosen one, now get on with it, start saving them!"
Day Bethesda stopped using drugs is the day their writing quality dropped to the floor.
Idk why more people don't complain about this but all of Starfield is railroaded dialogue with the minor illusion of choice. You only ever get to say yes or no, and in some questlines like the Crimson Fleet even if you want to be a space pirate you have to fight and argue with the space pirates as if you're against them the entire time. Roleplaying is supposed to be one of the strong points of this game...
this might be one of the best expansions EVER made, passing recent bangers like Phantom Pain. you gotta give bethesda credit for making such a good game in 2010.

56:30 Within the first hour of Phantom Liberty, you already encounter the chimera which is one of the best boss fights in the game where you're almost literally reliving the spider tank fight in Ghost in the Shell. Even before that, Songbird shutting down Johnny was a badass moment showing how powerful of a netrunner she is. That's how you make a really compelling intro to your story. With Shattered Space, I dont know. I even watched footages of those who liked the base game, but it just doesn't look like it has a really engaging first hour.
The camera panning out automatically during a (seemingly) long and boring conversation was peak comedy! 😂

Gacha game devs certainly wish it was that way in China... they can be really toxic. And not just about the gacha part.
That's the catch, you don't need to buy this stuff. If you use social media to practice foreign languages (like my case, english is my third language) and if you notice the toxic positivity, depressive "people" trying to be "wholesome" and "empathic" by force, etc.. just don't interact or buy products like these, why even bother. Who really wants to play this crap?
Zero alien races is the laziest thing about this game
No, that would actually be the worldbuilding. All of humanity colonised three planets or something with one town on each planet only and had a somehow galactic scale war between two factions where the treaty stipulated nobody settle any other worlds in all of space or something. But also every planet you go to has a gazillion quintrillion Skyrim bandit outposts implying the bandit population of space is 10000000x the population of every other civilisation with its one small town per planet.
Starfield is...absurd.

I just don't think I can bring myself to play Starfield again. They just haven't done enough to improve the game and make it playable. And I don't see them putting in the amount of work required to fix it properly, they are delusional and think their crap doesn't stink.

I cant play Skyrim for same reason.. I tried last year... Quests are so bad.. Voice acting horrible.. Mostly with the Nordic voices. People who think Skyrim is a masterpiece are same people who would say Taylor Swift or imagine dragons is the best music ever

Not sure he would have seen Pandorum, it's not as well known, a bit of a hidden gem. I do think he was thinking of Event Horizon, which is the better known movie. Both are great though for sci-fi horror fans.
@@ScytheNoire the reason I figured Pandorum is because his description of the ship jumping into hyperspace then the people onboard changing/evolving seemed closer to that, Event Horizon was more Hellraiser in space
Shattered Space DLC in a nutshell: "Even the game got bored." Priceless and spot on.
I'm genuinely amazed at... how *so what* this is. It's just like "Here's a few phantoms and an abandoned space station. SoMeThiNg bAD hAPPenEd." Yeah, that's a pretty tired trope. And there's nothing beyond the trope. There's no effort put in to establish the stakes or provide reasons to care. It's a familiar pattern. My hopes for ES6 are pretty much on life support.

@@Blisterdude123 Absolutely. It's central to their philosophy. Everything is aimed directly at the player - not the in-game protagonist, but the literal player sitting in front of the screen. That's why everything in Bethesda titles is SO contrived ALL the time. It turns out that "giving the player what he wants" is actually the worst possible way to create an immersive experience for the player. It gets to the point where every single interaction is a fourth wall break. Everything and everyone screams "THIS IS A GAME! IT WAS DESIGNED FOR YOU TO PLAY IT AND HAVE FUN! THE WHOLE WORLD AND EVERYONE IN IT IS AT THE SERVICE OF... YOU!"

Bethesada Game Studios was never AAA. Everything about them screams AA except their funding which makes me wonder how they're able to burn so much money for such medicore products. I guess Daddy Microsoft got a bit too lax with the wallet but that is about to change soon for the better. Its time BGS gets the axe from them.

Well, it is sure is good they have diversified the enemy line up. Adding human ghosts with guns to humans with guns, humans with guns, humans with guns, and humans with guns adds so much to the game.
It's fairly mid. You're an errand boy for the most part, LS is right that this adds very little in terms of role playing. Honestly, it feels kinda cheap. And the dialogue... "Great Serpent...!" this and science-y gobbledygook that. You just zonk out, unable to pay attention and then just skip it all together after a while, and then you just run towards the next quest dot as soon as it appears. That's pretty much my experience, sadly.
Luke says compare it to phantom liberty, that’s some amazing dlc, this is just not even in the same league. If you compare those you’ll find yourself thinking “wtf was I thinking when I decided to try this junk?” lol. There’s a reason nobody got to review it early.
I'm not sure how to phrase this, but the dialogue, whether it's the writing or direction, makes me experience a sort of visceral psychic pain. Like nails down a chalkboard, but for my brain instead of ears. It displeases me to an extent that I cannot watch gameplay of it for longer than 10 minutes. My disappointment in Starfield is enhanced by what I've seen from the DLC. I'm not sure I'm ever buying another Bethesda game again if this is the direction they wish to go.

It's Emil's dialogue. Everyone praises Far Harbor as the best piece of Bethesda content in the past 10 years, but I don't think many people know that that was the only piece of content Emil didn't write.

Incredible, I guess the main appeal of Starfield is the PS3 nostalgia
5 hours for main quest tho i did 2 saves to see about choices... so maybe 4 at best 1 or 2 hours for side quest. cool armor and weapons, andrjea barely said anything. tho this is without doing her mainquest so it may be different, i wanted see what she would say when you don't do her quest so be warn she doesnt say much. Bg3 really spoiled me on dialogue and player choice effect the world and companions. god this doesnt inspire hope in me if elder scrolls 6 is made like this. like bg3 needs to become the standard for action rpgs. (sidenote it's not a bad dlc just compared to other games like bg3 or cyberpunk its below average also why compare the dlc to full games because with the full game and the dlc it's average at best phatom liberty crushes it. ikr it's unfair in some ways that's life Bethesda needs to step up their a game)
@@Evan-uu4lt yea bg3's dialogue and voice acting has ruined other games for me. I thought cyberpunk did well in that regard until I played baldur, then I could feel how empty it was in comparison especially with the added apartment visits for the love interests.

But yeah the romances in cyberpunk felt empty somewhat... I'll full on admit that had judy been romanceable for a male v I would disagree a little cause judy is great but then again bg3s big red momma karlach is outrageously great. (I play a male so I missed out on judys romance and it's tough to play as a female just cause it's my choice on how I make a character, so I pick male by default so yea sad time)

I did the math, and the Va'ruun language has been independent for 140 years (game starts in 2330, and Janin Va'ruun's ship disappeared in 2190). It's not too remarkable that they all speak the tongue of the player, especially since the colony ship Janin was on came from New Atlantis. Still, there should have been some drift, and maybe slang. The various accents do trip me up, however.
The Expanse, and the tv show Warrior (Netflix/Max, based on Bruce Lee's writings), are great examples of invented slang being used smartly in writing (i.e. just using it, and trusting the audience to piece together what it means). Starfield's writers likely would have been much more heavy handed, so maybe the absence is a blessing?
I find it extremely confusing that games like Starfield and other games with this more barebones dialogue options system decide to show the answers immediately after the last answer without waiting for any amount of dialogue to happen.
This basically is spoiling any real dialogue and story and completely destroying every sense of immersion for the player.

It looks boring, man. I held off on buying this and wanted to see some vids first. It's proper that you mentioned there was no hook to Shattered Space. I was watching you go through this hour long video hoping for a "wow" moment but it never arrived. Meanwhile Phantom Liberty made you feel like you were starting some action movie. President of the NUSA goes down in Dogtown and you got to rescue her.
... And the funny part with that Phantom Liberty start? You can tell them to go F Off and let the President die. There's also a part where if you do rescue her, she tries to hook you in as a new FIA agent. For a bunch of games something like that is a big moment that you must accept. But in Phantom Liberty, you can tell the President "No" and still try to help out.
It stands in sharp contrast to Shattered Space where you MUST join the Snake Cult. There is no other way. Like these people can't accept the fact that you just gave them a break from a massive set of problems they're dealing with.

I just beat it. It was like 12 hours ish. But I took breaks and what not so maybe even 8. Most of which was traversing the damn environment. No side quests. Just main story.
I played the first two hours. Just as bland as the main game. I don't care about any character or the story. Nobody is memorable.
I am now in the city and have to do a quest for each of the three houses.
The spacestation only had nice visuals. The enemies are boring.
You arrive on the planet and immediatly you are the chosen one and have to join house varrun through a ritual.
Again my questlog gets filled with quests just by passing by people. Oh how much i hate this.
I come across some arguing people at a statue. Immediately i get asked to be the second to one of the brothers who want to duel. The reason they give me is "you seem trustworthy". What is this? Bad D&D? You meet a fighter in the tavern. "You seem trustworthy do you want to join our party?"

The base game made House Va'ruun out to be this super isolationist culture that was extremely hostile to outsiders. It's kinda weird that they immediately decide to trust you and initiate you into their religion just because you heard a ghost talking. Also good lord, what is with those haircuts?
There was that one great zero grav mission where the drive randomly turned on and off. You had your judge situation to complete platforming and traversal challenges while fighting off raiders. It would have been even cooler if it gravity wasn’t applied to the entire ship and only parts, inverted, came super strong, basically force threw you around.
I can't believe Bethesda have already run out of ideas for the game that they have to copy a lesser known horror movie hoping no one will notice it's more or less the same😂
Event horizon was more a horror movie than a Sci-FI, like Hell raiser. And at least they had the hallucinations that mixed things up. Shattered space looks like an excuse to shoot things. The ship is very similar to any planet side base, with some extra cut scenes. I'm thinking they threw it together fairly quickly with existing assets.

It's one of those games that the more you play, the worse the score gets. Starfield started out a 7 to me, but by the time I finished, it was a 4 without mods and 6 with mods.
