    Germany and Japan have a similar industrious, engineering, design and technology focussed culture. They are direct to the point and highly value efficiency, authority, rules, and being punctual. They both love well made cars, well made cameras, electronics, minimalist and sleek designs (Dieter Rams style) and good beer. Many Germans admire Japan.

      Japanese might be the least direct, blunt, to the point talkers in the world, total opposites of Germans in that regard.

    I wish you went to Nord Park to the Japanese garden and to the EKO Haus Japanese temple in duesseldorf! It's worth it and I guarantee it will feel like Japan. In düsseldorf there is even a japanese kindergarten for japanese immigrants whose parents work at japanese companies here.

    I literally had no idea that there is a large Japanese community in Dusseldorf and they even have a festival, so cool! What is the main thing (dish or food item) that you miss when you are outside of Japan?

    I think you would like Düsseldorfs Japan Day and the Dokumi (Germanys largest Anime and Japan expo)
    The price for the Ramen was extremly high compared to the Restaurants here in Berlin that i know.

      They have ramen in the 12-15 euro range as well in Düsseldorf. Ofcourse it's still more than in Japan and you don't get the specials but it doesn't have to be expensive. It is actually pretty cheap compared to the Netherlands or Belgium were that 12-15 euro ramen costs 20 euro.

    As a german living close to Düsseldorf, who often goes there for "Little Tokyo" its super interesting to see a japanese guy visit it and talk about it in english. I agree that the ramen is pretty expensive, sadly it costs you arround 25-30 bucks to go somewhere and eat there... going out here is pretty expensive... :c
    Im happy you seemed to enjoy your trip tho!

    For Ramen you were at the most famous place in Düsseldorf, but not the best place, which would be "Naniwa Noodles & Soups" at the "Oststraße". The taste is better and the prices are more reasonable. But at 12 o'clock expect a large queue.

    I think you would have gotten a better Ramen at Takumi. It's the closest to authentic Ramen from Japan. But it also depends on which kind of Ramen you are choosing. The quality of the different soup stocks can differ extremely! Sometimes it takes time to find your favorite flavor.

    Takezo is my favorite place to eat in Düsseldorf. However, most of the ramen places have certain ramen that are not good, alright and then outstanding. With takezo i recommend everyone to go with the classics. Kara shoyu ramen is the best, miso tastes a lot like fried onions, tantan men are also great options for people who like grounded meat. Avoid too many toppings and too much heat. The balance just gets wrong.

    Here are so many Ramen Restaurants - altough much more cheaper (from 10.-EUR up) and better as in that Place, which is always overcrowded by tourists. (and I don’t mean Takumi, this is just a Franchise-Restaurant). Little Tokyo isn‘t the only japanese Place in Düsseldorf, there are many others. But you‘ve been checking out the best japanese Food Store 👍

    Izakaya are actually not that rare. I would say they come third after Sushi and Ramen restaurants, followed by okonomiyaki places. We have several in Berlin despite the number of Japanese people living here being very small.

    • @NomadicWes
      @NomadicWes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NomadicWes After checking again, the okonomiyaki restaurant seems to have been replaced with another Takumi branch, unfortunately.
      There are also places specialising in yakiniku, 懐石, Japanese style crêpes, kakigoori plus a couple cafés serving breads and/or pastries. I guess something interesting could be among them.

    Please don't consider the ramen shops in Düsseldorf, only. They are mostly for tourists and nerds who hardly know how it is supposed to taste. The Izekayas and high level restaurants are top notch and there are many small businesses who are amazing, too. Doing a Japanese business in Düsseldorf means being measured by Japanese people on their own measures. Even though it might be far more expensive than in Japan, please consider that we need to import many ingredients.
    In Düsseldorf you can't sell shit for gold; we have the best Japanese community and we are proud of it!
