    Corsets are only painful when they're cinched too tight (like enough to move organs or make a person faint x.x). They're quite comfortable when cinched correctly.
    However, it also takes more time and effort to put on than, well, a flapper dress.

    • @SHERIDANar

      Finally someone who knows this information hahaha. Everyone thinks corsets r completely bad!!

      You can't even tie them up tight enough to harm your organs, you'd restrict your breathing too much before that happened. Also, our organs are meant to move around lol you should see what happens to your organs during pregnancy.

    • @brandonf.8360

      @R. P. that sounds like more work for fake hair versus real hair.

    • @brandonf.8360
      @brandonf.8360 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @R. P. have you had a wig full of lice? You're better off bald.

    • @bitch8205
      @bitch8205 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I read somewhere that during the Victorian era, having a completely bald and clean-shaven pubic area was considered unattractive because it signified that the person had lice down there, thus the market for pubic wigs. If someone had plenty of hair down there, it meant they practiced good hygiene (or at least good enough to not have lice lol). I don't know if it's 100% true and frankly I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I found that interesting

      We see this in WW2 as well where women would paint the lines behind the legs and wear makeup all over the legs to look like they had panty-hoses on since nylon was needed for the war effort. Unintentionally, creating the beginning concept of spray on tan. 🤔

    A few missed points about the Landsknecht: Imaging being so flush with cash you walked into a tailor and picked out all 5 of the most expensive cloths ever, no matter the color and said "Yep, I need all of them in a shirt", there ya go. They were also exempted from the sumptuary laws that legally defined what colors and clothes the social classes could wear, so a Mercenary could LITERALLY dress like a king if they wanted to, because the Emperor ruled their short miserable lives should have some fun in them while they were alive.

    The flapper section is wrong, actually!
    Love your channel but corsets were not actually painful to wear nor did they necessarily pull in the waist! (unless they were too small or you purposely tight-laced them, which people rarely ever did) Corsets were actually just bras! They corrected your posture and gave your boobs support, literally every woman had one even if she was a working-class laborer. The style of the 1920s did come from not having to wear corsets, but that was mostly because WW1 prevented the manufacturing of corsets (steel and fabric needed to be used for the military instead) and so the fashions changed to suit not wearing one.

    Do you think codpieces would make a comeback? Part of me says no, but the other says yes, since the competition is great, and everyman seems obsessed to having the biggest 'cod'.

    Scottish Kilts weren't originally colourful like now either. That was another invention of the English to identify Scottish Clans.

    This channel is a good for relaxing and pretty fun, there is no reason you can't be accurate as well.
    Corsets didn't accentuate diddly. They were and still are supportive garments when functional. They helped with bust and back support while maintaining the clothing lines. What accentuated shapeliness was the bust pads and bum rolls (depending on the portion of time period being discussed).
    A good corset will not be tight, it will be made to the owners measurements and sometimes with built in curves. These curves could be in any area but were to emphasize and work with the fashion trends. People didn't tighten corsets overly so to get shapes like in the photo used here. tightlacing is more a modern thing.
    People often forget that photo editing also existed back then. You could draw on the photo plate and either highlight or shade certain areas. Photography was expensive, a little touch up for the best picture didn't hurt.
    With google and youtube accessible to us, there is no reason to spread misninformation. It begs the question, if that was wrong are other things in this video incorrect?

      Ah thank you! Corsets being treated like a thing to set back women would be like saying sports bras are a detriment to female athletes.

    There is one thing I would like to know "How did the film "Die Hard" become a Christmas film?"

    • @missyouwish88
      @missyouwish88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're being serious & actually want to know (ya never know with the internet!), it's because the story just randomly happens to take place around Christmas time & somebody somewhere decided that means it's an Xmas movie.
      Kinda like how some people say Frozen's an Xmas movie just cause it has snow 😕

      I have a question. How many films have some references to Christmas but they're not considered a Christmas movie?
