I have a Google Home and an Echo Dot. Never use my Echo. Always use Google Home. For me, the power of having the Google Search outweighs any feature the Echo has. I also have Google Play Music and Amazon Unlimited. GPM for me is much more useful. Also, I like that I can cast audio from the Google Home app to the Home.

echo used to be able to work with any custom wake word but amazon shut it down , you could have used hal or jarvis now you are limited to like 3 choices
there was also a skill to program alexa to say custom responses that amazon shut down too , but GH can do custom responses with IFTTT , and operate lights

Thinking of getting this for my girlfriend to replace her old echo dot we both have Philips hue lights around the house I have the original Google home and it's miles better than Alexa. More answers to questions understands you a lot better too sometimes when I ask Alexa to turn on the lounge lights she says she doesn't understand but when I ask Google home it does it right away it's much better. And for all these idiots concerned about privacy Google doesn't send info to the NSA or whatever but it does listen constantly but you can always mute the much or unplug it.

I've had my Google home mini since may and I love it. It's great for using it with the chromecast and other useful stuff it does. Only down side it has is the music on it when playing it goes up loud than quiet, but I don't really use it as a speaker for music.

I got the Home Mini free with the pre-order of the Pixel 2XL and I love it. I've never used the Amazon Dot so I can't compare the two, but the Home Mini does everything I need it to without any issues. It even sang happy birthday to me on my birthday when I asked it to "tell me about my day" lol.
I got mine two days ago from the Spotify deal. They gave you a free mini if you sign up or currently have Spotify. I would have never bought one myself, but I am glad I have one.

I own the Dot gen 2 and I must say from this video, one thing I like about the Dot better is the light display. You can see that it acknowledged you from across the room where you may not know the Google has heard you say if it is play music or something. Both basically do the same so it is just about taste.
I might just have to get one of this minis, I was leaning more towards the echo but I think Google gets the edge when it comes to the accuracy. #nicelydoneflossy,
I have an echo and and echo dot. I love both and it's especially great since I have a prime account so I can easily listen to my playlists. Oh and much love to white shoes :D

I've been rocking the DOT since Christmas. I moved it from the Kitchen to the Bathroom. The kids use it more than I do tho. Glad the Home Mini is nothing to write home about.

I think the home mini has a slight edge over the echo dot, cause it uses the google search engine to answer its questions, so you can ask it WAY more questions apposed to the dot that uses the bing and Wikipedia search engine

Echo Dot wins: 1) More accurate rain sound 2) ASKED when should I remind you 3) Gave you the flight arrival time with gate number. Google Home wins: 1) Random song played was better (personal opinion of course) 2) Nailed the last question 3) Scare Me was better although you had to listen longer. Although that last question the Home answered was impressive, more realistic day to day questions I would rate the Echo Dot higher, so far, based on this limited test. I have an Echo... still getting the Home.
