    Hello! My name is Emily and I own my own business, Emii Creations, selling and designing merchandise and art for sale. My retail business started in 2018 and I mainly go to conventions, local shows, sell online, and sell wholesale to retails stores all over the country. I also have a small consignment partner in Taiwan in case you see my stuff there!
    Before Emii Creations I worked in the gaming/VFX industry for companies like Riot Games and Luma Pictures as a Pipeline TD/TA (lots of coding). You can find my credits on movies like Captain America: Civil War, Antman, and Dr. Strange. Although the VFX/Gaming world was so much fun, my dream has always been converting my side hustle into my full-time job and I'm so happy it's working out!
    Feel free to come and join my journey investing and growing my business, me, and my new channel!

    Oh shit, that was crazy! We went in with 4 suitcases and no one stopped us. We did come in early so...? Now, we got to be cautious next year.

      Oh snap what did you come in on Thursday? I arrived around 2pm and they had people stationed at the doors till closing it was intense. A lot of people were saying it depends on what time you come and what day and if you get lucky 😆

      Hey, Fanime Dealer's Hall staff here! I was the tall person with long hair, we probably talked at least once or twice during the con lol Allow me to comment on this! The reason things work the way they do is because the convention center is serviced by a union, and they're in charge of loading and unloading the hall (among other things). Carrying in freight breaks OUR contract with the union, because it's seen as job theft. Why would you pay them to safely load you through the dock when you can pay a scab who's willing to break their back to do it for half price or less? You guys probably wouldn't do that, but a lot of people (especially the very large booths with with tons of heavy merch) absolutely would, and we have to treat everyone fairly. With that said... it's unreasonable to say that vendors can't bring ANYTHING into the hall with them. It's silly to expect you to load your purse through the docks, for example. So the compromise that Cam (our department head or "floor manager" as you called her) makes is the "single person, no carts, one trip" rule. As a note: you CAN have multiple people working the booth if you do this, but only one person can carry the merch.
      If multiple people brought in suitcases you either came in at a time you weren't supposed to or through a door you weren't supposed to (most of the doors are supposed to be closed and locked even after load-in starts but sometimes people leave them open when they exit) OR one of our staffers didn't do their job right lol And yeah it's pretty unusual for people who fly to bring luggage with them; they usually have it shipped to the convention center and the union will receive and load it for you.
      If Cam was a little short with you during that whole thing, it's because no matter what we do there are always vendors who try to sneak in extra merchandise without us noticing (even people who've been vending with us for years and absolutely know better). So yeah she is VERY particular about the contracts, though in her defense they are extremely comprehensive and it's also her job to be particular lmao That's also just kinda how she is 😂
      In regards to the boycott: that was basically just one department that walked out (gaming). I have a lot of thoughts on the situation that I won't get into, but I'll say I think it's telling that not a single other staff member from any other department I've talked to about it has had any major complaints. They did have some valid points, the majority of which have since been addressed (by far the biggest one being that we have a newly updated, much more robust harassment policy), but they keep changing their demands. As a side note, I haven't heard that we had lower attendance and iirc our pre-reg numbers going into con were up from last year. Many other vendors did complain that revenue is down, but same as you they largely blame the slow economy rather than attendance. Like you, they all said that revenue is down at most cons.
      Regardless, thank you so much for the kind words about our show, our dealer's hall, and our staff! I've been staffing this con for many years and I can say that we take our "By Fans, For Fans" motto very seriously. Everyone involved works so hard to make sure the show goes as smoothly as possible for all, and it's really special to have that hard work noticed. I'm really glad you had a good con, and please say hi to me if you see me next year!

    That fee is absolutely crazy! I'm glad you were within regulations, thank goodness!

      It totally is! Mostly when booth prices are already expensive it just makes it harder and harder to make it profitable for smaller businesses. 🥲

      10:02 😮 I’ve never seen any vlogs mention this 😮 so wrong that’s an insane fee

    • @EmiiCreations
      @EmiiCreations  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vidotter I know a lot of events have freight fees as an option. Most vendors to some degree expect to use and pay for it because of the nature of how much more merch vendors have. But I'm a bit of an outlier where I don't 'need' the help of freight to bring my stuff in. So the fact it's so intently forced on people like me is what's odd about this event.
      tldr: the other vlogs may be paying it but they are accustomed to paying it mostly if they are moving a lot of merch and artist alley is usually exempt.

    Your drama has me concerned for my artist alley spot at Galaxy Con San Jose in August...does this freight fee extend to dealers AND artist alley if you get caught by them?

    • @EmiiCreations
      @EmiiCreations  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Artist Alley, from my understanding, was exempt because it was assumed they would not be transporting "that much" stuff and most people in AA use suitcases anyway which is harder to regulate and usually exempt. But I would still be a bit careful and not use dollies/carts to transport AA merch in if possible.
      But to be EXTRA careful, I would also double-check your contract and any load-in instructional emails. And if you need further clarification, contact your rep/con contact via email. Email specifically so you have proof/paper trail.

    Hang on... a "freight fee" shouldn't even exist if they are not using their own personnel and equipment for bringing in their product. Freight fees should only apply to the shipping and handling of freight, not the use of a loading dock at a convention center. I'd be consulting a lawyer on that. These places try to get away with charging for every little thing which may not exactly be legal. I'm glad you didn't have to pay for such a ridiculous thing. (Also, one of the requirements to waive it was a single trip? SCUSE ME?! So long as the vendors aren't crowding the loading docks, that shouldn't be an issue - which can be solved using 2 volunteers to manage the traffic.)

    • @EmiiCreations
      @EmiiCreations  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a union specific regulation because the convention center is unioned. I think they just call it a freight fee on their end for ease of understanding. NOTICE: I'm not really an expert of how the union deals work.... but I do know that they have contracts between the convention and the unions. Then, in order to use this particular convention center, you are required to use their labor and their union labor have specific rules like all incoming anything over a certain size needs to be handled by their labor and their labor need to be paid a certain amount. I guess the size limitations is what you can carry yourself in one trip for this case. I think this edge case exists for restocking or just brining in small boxes cause that would be even more stupid if they charge for that.
      Some conventions will actually cover this fee for exhibitors like wondercon. But others like fanime require exhibitors to pay the fees themselves. It's also seems to be more intense for certain cities and states like California and New York.
      KINDA crazy mostly for a small business. :(

      @@EmiiCreations It seems unions work a little differently in my country (well, from my limited understanding, I was in a union when I worked for a railroad company once, but that's the jist of my direct experience) I get the general purpose it to ensure employees are treated fairly, but to charge things like freight fees to vendors is unheard of as far as I know where I live.

      @@user-wv3qh1tn9d Oh interesting! Honestly, it's such a weird system we have and I'll honestly say I don't fully understand it either. But they're always re-hashing those contracts and talks to there's hoping it gets better for us vendors in the future.
