    The combination of intelligence and humour that poured out of Gore Vidal was always wonderful. He was on top form here.

    This was recorded on June 4, 2004. At the time Vidal would have been 78 years old going on 79. He died eight years later in 2012.

    The U.S. is and always has been an imperial power; we do it with slight variations as compared with, say, 16th Century Spain or 19th Century Britain, but how can it not be glaringly obvious that we are an imperial power?

    Who, in ‘The #Trump Era’ does not now wish that #GoreVidal were here with us...?!
    His case for #Impeachment by virtue of #Lying obviously did, in fact, provoke my response.
    I merely wanted to further point out that: #DemocracyNow has an : Excellent Archive!🌹

    I own that book, but the reality is it is NOT the "United States" as a vague entity. Rather it is factions of people, often likeminded with foriegn interests and those interests are those who we could show are aligned with Canada and the UK, Anglophilic in nature, that run roughshod over whatever 'American Empire' Gore speaks of. That deep relationship is anti-American as America was born as a reaction against empire and nations like Mexico were born into real Empires. Santa Anna was not President of Mexico. He was its Emperor. The real story has to do with WHY the United States fills the void left by the British, and other colonial powers like France like France. To call this an empire is a misnomer, but did you know the 'Dutch' empire never ended, it transformed into something else.

    I LOVED Gore Vidal whom I thought told the truth more often than not. My mentor Howard Zinn too died quickly. Those in whom I placed my trust have melted into nothingness. Perhaps, given the horrific nature of 2012 politics they truly are better off. I am sad and sickened at the naked corruption in both parties BUT a special reservation of horror goes to Romneybot who is among the oligarchs controlling it all. See George Carlin's "The American Dream" youtube if one wants to see genius.

      @Jeff Whitman Yes, I am still around as of Dec. 29 at 5:30 a.m.. I am busy this a.m. and into the early afternoon but I will get to your question when I'm able. I would know Zinn's voice 100% so I am fairly sure I would recognize it. Here's to 2022. Hope for our democracy and our nation!

      Indeed, the greatest thing great minds like Vidal, Chomsky, Nader and Hitchens failed to do was to devote much of their time to publically advocating a third (or fourth?) party-free of corrupting big money and designed with checks so that anyone connected to it could not possibly use it for personal gain. Then via PBS and other public and/or non-profit media outlets it wouldn't take long to draw popular support for the kind of candidates whose knowledge, wisdom and logic could outclass any Republican and Democrat vying for high level public office.

    The price of Gold rises. Because they know that the dollar only good as long as its sustain its value against gold and other materials. Now these exporters want to get the same amount of gold for the the same amount of oil sold as last year, so they rise their prices. This vicious circle occurs anytime when Central bank prints extra dollars. And this is the main reason why US government tries to keep the dollar as low as possible because it is the barometer of real money

  • @kessass83
    @kessass83 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    When these players get these dollars they keep a certain amount of dollars in their vaults in the form of US treasury ("Safe heaven"), or buy some shares and after that they buy gold. Now because all the players still not invaded has more dollars, lets say last year they sold for 1 M dollar and this year for 1,5 million, which is 50% increase. Now lest say this year they again proportionally they spend their dollars on Shares, treasuries and gold, and gold stand at 20% of reserve.

  • @kessass83

    If I can let me divide how the system works. At the top of Pyramid is Central Bank. The central bank issue currency, and even better it is reserved currency of the word. To enforce that Status the right hand of Central bank is US military force worldwide. If some countries where Oil and other raw materials decides to switch from dollar to other currency, US army attack that country at any cost, because it enables the dollar to keep its value that is peggedwith these commodities and the Econ Back

This little terrier marching around "I'm a war time President... This was a great rambling surrealistic rant from Gore who looked as though he had just rolled out of bed to appear with Amy and Juan on Democracy Now at their little studio in Chinatown in The United States of Amnesia. Thank you Amy, Juan, Gore

    Chomsky himself says America is one of the most open and free societies. Just because one is willing to criticise the US government for burning Iraqi children does not mean they should have to live in Saudi Arabia. By the way, work on grammar and syntax if you want people to take your ridiculous ideas seriously.

    You can check the price of Oil, food, and anything else have remained the same or even decrease during the last 100 years, and real estate actually decreased quite a lot and the salaries of cause lost a lot of purchasing power.

    about terrorist in that invaded country. Now companies borrow money to invest in new equipment to build these machines. Because US army already used all the credit and savings that society accumulated per year plus extra printed money, The central bank lend at 0% to the national bank that serves that company and provides credit. Well, this last only for a while, because other players still not invaded get more and more dollars or as we know increased demand.

    Gore Vidal is a great mind. However, I can't stomach ideological partisans no matter how intellectually compelling their ideas may seem to be. His blanket support of Democrats feels unnerving to me, considering their complicity in allowing American imperialism to flourish. I believe Robert Anton Wilson phrased it best by stating: "Disciples are like assholes. They always find another human being to cling to". I believe that same logic applies to political party loyalty,. This phraseology can also be said of cult-of-personality types like the late Gore Vidal with his many awe-struck admirers. Scrutinize, analyze, and reason in all things, friends. Let truth have your complete loyalty.

    No, the US is not 'hated by all' and realize Communists, like those who were in the USSR would be a REAL EMPIRE. Don't agree, move to a real communist nation like North Korea, or heck just move to China and speak your mind openly, be political active and say you Hate China and you hate the CCP and let's see how long you last. If the US were a real empire, Gore Vidal would be treated like the Soviets or CCP Chinese would treat him if he talked smack in their nation or sphere of influence. He'd be 'disappeared' and not appear on shows like Democracy Now, and if Stalin were in charge or Mao, he would be erased from history completely 1984 style. How this that as a combination of intelligence and humor and not being a sheep.

    • @andykaufman7620
      @andykaufman7620 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are testable ideas. Again if you disagree, travel to North Korea and there are numerous things you can do to get detained and probably end up with a grisly fate.
