- On February 19, 1992, Gore Vidal visited The John Adams Institute. Jan Donkers moderated the evening.
Gore Vidal was an American writer known for his essays, novels, screenplays, and Broadway plays. A lifelong Democrat, Gore ran for political office twice and was a seasoned political commentator. As well known for his essays as his novels, Vidal wrote for The Nation, New Statesman, The New York Review of Books and Esquire. Vidal’s major subject was America, and through his essays and media appearances he was a longtime critic of American foreign policy. His most widely regarded social novel was Myra Breckinridge; his best known historical novels included Julian, Burr, and Lincoln. He won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1959 for his epic historical drama Ben Hur.
He died in 2012 from pneumonia. In his obituary, The New York Times wrote, “Few American writers have been more versatile or gotten more mileage from their talent” and The Washington Post remembered him as a “major writer of the modern era” and an “astonishingly versatile man of letters”.

Vidal's voice is needed Now more than ever.
Gore Vidal's genius is irreplaceable.

I miss seeing Gore Vidal; I always felt great when, and after, I heard his brilliance. I wanted him in excellent health, being well at least 'til 100 years old. Thanks to various forms of technology now, I can still see, hear and appreciate (thank goodness) much of that brilliance he left us...I have his books as well, but still he is a man many of us will have until we leave this scene on earth.

May the ghost of Mister Vidal haunt the person that thought REPEATEDLY interrupting his brilliance to sell crap was a good idea.

Two or three very good questions asked but glossed over here. I respect, appreciate and enjoy Mr Gore Vidal's fluent and perceptive literarally (?I know;) expanded/expansive intellect.
Each word is an encapsulation of an idea and the sprouting, growth and development of conciousness is traversed on the non-unilateral (for want of a much better/effective/expressive word) connectivity of ideas that is the expansion of understanding/insight and imaginablity and productive/fruitful creativity. Reading the written word enables an optimalization of absorption of what a word contains, by making possible a liberalization from the ungenerous pressure of time and its material schedule and budget. In effect, when ideas are streamed by the mechanistic rotations of our av methods of availability, we are easily short shrifted, somewhat, from its fullest/richest values in meaning. ""In the beginning was the word" ;)

July 2019 Did Gore Vidal interview Chalmers Johnson (he was an expert on USA bases in Japan and around the world) of U.C. Berkeley?
Audio's a bit dodgy but certainly worth listening to if you have the time.

@@brockmeeks1695 Yes, just spotted your post. I assume that part of the reason people came here is to improve their knowledge. It's always best to help it along with the truth, particularly about Brexit, though I think that's got much longer to play out. Dominic Cummings will be interviewed by M.P.'s on the 25th May, so I look forward to some sparks flying. I'm from Scotland and believe there are concerted efforts afoot to crack the whip. Waste of time, we won't bend.
