Finally i understand why image looks digital: it's not about lens (you on old lens) - it's about camera! Old movies looks like film, but modern like digital. The Camera is the Answer!
Z8 : More MP for photo, 8K, better DR, slightly better AF and less noise in high ISO, 1/32000 shutter speed, sensor shield. Z6III : cheaper, lighter, fully articulated screen, 240 fps in 1080p, better IBIS, an actual mechanical shutter and even better viewfinder
I'd take the Z8 electronic shutter over the mech one in the Z6 any day seeing as Nikon crippled it for bunch of a lenses, where you are forced into electronic or first curtain shutter mode anyway
I have the Z8 and the Z6iii and there's very few times I choose the 6 over the 8. Z6iii flippy is cool & definitely better for recording yourself but that's where it stops. The Z8's screen is way better. Having to have the screen off axis to tilt it is just weird. 240 is cool, but no way would I give up the advantages of the Z8 to get just that. Entirely possible that 240 could come to the Z8 in FW updates given how active Nikon have been in that department.
I've owned them all. The ZF is the best, all things considered, and ignoring the very few specific niche "needs" of the other options. For general, real world use the zf is the best buy, yes even for video, and it looks sick to boot.
I have Z8 and Z6III and I love them both. Best thing (after all those years) is that they renders same colors. That wasnt the in my previous combos Z6+Z7, D750+D800, D90+D700.
For photos: Just buy a Z6ii. It‘s very cheap rn, has better picture quality then the Z6iii, better ergonomics then the Zf and the body weight beats both of them. Focus isn‘t the best, but way better then Fuji. At least green box = in focus
Z6ii is such a bargain right now. Admittedly I have a z8 for all my technical shoots but the z6ii is just a really great everything else camera in a compact body.
For wildlife the Z8 is better in almost ever way than the Z6III. Don’t waste your money. 8K, oversampled DX crop mode with video and 20MP stills. Those features matter in the field. Not a flippy screen.
Z8 has no HD 240p, it's heavier, more expensive, less versatile for filming things other than wildlife with no flippy screen, and 6k is more useable than 8k.
Hd240 is not a major need of 99% or wildlife people. A fast FPS camera with flexibility for recording modes and quality is. A bigger heavier camera is actually a plus with telephoto lens on gimbal heads and video hesds. I don’t need a flippy screen on a camera that will have a telephoto lens on it for 90% of the time. That being said the A7RV has the best screen but I’ll take a Z8 screen any day over JUST a flippy.
If you're using a camera for vlogging the Z6iii is better. I have a Z9 which is fantastic for wildlife, but would be a nightmare for vlogging, as would the Z8 as it's too chunky. The only downside I can see in the Z6iii is less ability to crop (in stills) and mysterious lack of bird af (for now).
@@duncanwallace7760 I'm not using a mirrorless camera to vlog, no. I wouldn't even use a Z6III to vlog. Way too big. I thought vlogging like Peter McKinnon died 3 years ago.
I'm not seeing the noise in that Nikon raw ?? I never did. But maybe it disappears on the journey from the camera all the way to my phone here in Denmark, watching it in 480p which is damn cinematic 👍😁♥️
Kasey records his shows two weeks in advance. That means there are only 12 more days until The Locksmith(TM) runs out of pre-recorded shows he can post. Since I assume that Kasey edits his shows as he goes along that means editing quality will either start to dip in about 5-6 days and then change to just raw footage around day 9-10, unless The Locksmith(TM) has decent video editing skills. Then day 13 we're going to start to see someone else wearing a Kasey Real Mask(TM). Sincerely, Kasey, do NOT post any videos in 10-12 days that are unedited/barely edited takes. That would be freaky. Genius too. You know what, if you're that dedicated, go for it, you just wrote the craziest storyline since you coined the term Toneh.
Well we are all different, so that's the deal on choice. I'm the opposite to you. I'm a pro who shoots with two Z6ii's. Gorgeous cameras, literally 95% good enough. I'd just love the AFC to be a tiny bit more sticky. I still only lose about 2% of images from out of focus. I shoot weddings, gigs, events. Often they are fast moving with people jumping, dancing etc. I think the 2% of blurry images is pretty good on a camera that is now 4 years or more old. However, for somebody who is 100% photo-centric, Nikon threw us guys under the bus. I could use either the ZF (but too many MP), or the Z6iii, so why did Nikon put those stupid, ridiculous selfie screens on both of them. If they had kept the flip down screen on at least one of them, I would have changed over. I trialled the Z8, ZF and Z6iii. Loved the screen on the Z8, but in Australia is 7K, body only. The 70 gig files on that big sensor would kill my computer, and it's too big and heavy. Z6iii would have been perfect, with the 24mp sensor, but of course Nikon killed it with that wretched selfie screen. For now, I will continue with my two older cameras.
It's a good thing to have clarity regarding your expensive purchases based on practical concerns. It's even better when you're not struggling against Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
I'm only really familiar with Sony cameras, and I'd say regardless of whether you use LOG or RAW, it's better to overexpose when possible to bring an image down to control noise rather than try to raise it. RAW also bypasses NR and lens correction of course, it's meant for post processing. I prefer the granular control in post-NR as opposed to the camera making that decision for me. I've been working more with HDR lately and I also like the way RAW responds to grading over the baked in LOG. Even if you conform RAW to LOG it still retains that extra bit-depth so it's an entirely different experience. The RAW to HDR stuff I've been doing has been quite impressive, the richness and depth is quite satisfying. I'd even argue the "nasty" Sony color science is less of an issue.
On Nikon for exposure I use the waveform and then set the Zebras at 245-250 which is close to clipping. I use the waveform to look at the overall exposure of the image and then use the zebras to make sure I'm not clipping anything important. I basically expose as bright as possible without things clipping and then pull it down in post. the Nlog curve stuffs a lot of the information in the highlights so you have way more image data & less noise if you overexpose as much as possible without clipping things out.
I sold my Z8 to buy a Z9. At 6'5" I prefer to wield a bigger tool for the job, for my big hands. :-) But I will be buying a Z6iii in the next couple of months, for the things that it does better, e.g. low light. I prefer two CF slots, the gps, the bigger sensor, the built in grip, the bigger battery, the sensor shield etc.I enjoyed the Z8, but my Z9 appeals to my macho self. :-)
The Z9 is far better in low light than the Z6III, the only reason to go for the Z6iii is the lighter weight and no need to carry a recording monitor for vlogging.
What color is the water? Chemicals? Did you open the aperture later in the video? I liked when the trees in the background were more in focus. Thoughts? Have a great day!
I like all of them, but I could never part with my Z8. ❤ I considered getting the Zf as a fun second camera, or perhaps a Z7 Mk2 or Z6 Mk3 as smaller alternatives to pair with a pancake lens for everyday carry, but the Z8 can handle it all. Instead, I’ll invest that money in new lenses and gear.
That's a cool scene with the fall colors in the treeline. The results looks good. Socks and sandals on those rocks? The Cripple Hammer causing mayhem and head injuries? Perfect.
Raw video, like raw photos, react better with ETTR shooting; then you have your fun or horror post processing. Can you please do a 3D pop analysis between the vintage-like Nikon lenses (40/2, 35/1.4, 50/1.4) and the Zeiss lenses you have (40/2, 55/1.8, etc)? I'm undecided which system I want to invest in further and want to decide it based on 3D pop lens availability. You have given me this incurable obsession about 3D pop, so you owe me this one.
Swirly Toneh's aside, the Helios is a great lens for taking the digital edge off. However it is very soft around the edges, which can be good for drawing your eye to the centre of the image. But if you're going to record at 6k, stand at the soft edge of the frame AND then punch in??? Yeah use a different lens. Suddenly edge sharpness actually matters for once.
Dear mr. Keseye. Good video again. I wonder what camera you Will chose to your 1.5 hour movie. Sony A7R II have app to your phone so you can control your camera from far. IT could Be handy when you do Solo filming to utube. But Sony A7R II might not be good for movie production. Thank you.
I have the Z9 and the ZF and love them both. I don't mind the weight and size of the Z9, the big battery lasts ages and the grip is the most comfortable grip ever. Are you aware of the 3.8k 2.3x crop NRAW mode at 120 fps which is in the Z8 & Z9? This would give you great reach out of your 600 (1380mm equivilent at 3.8k NRAW at 120p!!)...
I have had a Z6 since 2020. I do more photography than video but want to do more video in the future. Color grading 8bit is very limited. I have been thinking about the z6 iii or the z8. Being that I do a fair amount of photography I am wondering if 45 megapixels would make a practical difference. Also the dynamic range between the z6 iii and z8. I don't know what to do. I wonder if Nikon will be releasing a z7 iii anytime soon or would have to cripple it to keep from undercutting the z8.
You aren't going to notice the DR difference, it's far overblown. I wouldn't say 8bit is very limited with color grading, you can grade it a lot. 45mp of Z8/Z9 is really good, but 24mp is great too. Keep in mind 45mp file sizes will stack up faster on you HD. Z7 III if it exists will have a slower sensor than Z8.
@@Frippin-MTBD80 Thank you for your input. I was originally thinking of getting a used z7 and a z6 iii but then realized that I would be spending as much as a z8. I am going to wait a while anyway. The longest lens I have in AF native Z is a 24-70 2.8 and need something longer so probably a 70-200 2.8 is next. I'm pretty happy with my z6 but do want 10bit ( I do notice a difference ) and better AF performance.
I was checking dpreview's studio comparison pictures, and it was interesting to see that both the Z8 and Z9 had strange colorful noise even at ISO 64, probably some kind of moire, in small, contrasty areas (for example on that old family drawing on the left side). The Z6iii didn't show any of it. Has someone experienced this issue in real life situations?
Z8 and z9 alone worth the 2.3 crop mode in 4k120p if you want to be wildlife videographer. Z6iii can't do that (you confirmed it yourself). 2 years ago we were obligated to get z9 as there was no other option anyway, lol
@@dicekolev5360 Due to the crop, you're almost 1 inch sensor. Not really worth losing HD 240p. Nikon is the best wildlife system, I haven't said otherwise. They have the best lenses.
@@cameraconspiracies Still more sensor area than that Blackmagic OG that you loved so much,... and it's 3.8k. It's a great option to have and doesn't look any worse than that noisy-ass shadows Z6iii of yours 😜
I tried 4k120p at work, I was filming footage inside our factories and then the quarry workshops where they work on stones. I gotta say, I was speeding that 4k 120p up by 2 times, too many times in post, the 120p is TOO SLOW, I never in my life thought this was the case, I can see 120p and 240p being exceptional for subjects that move at mach 5 but not for a guy swinging a hammer, its still cool to have the versatility though. Panasonic needs to give me, a triple gain sensor m4/3 of course, with 4:3 full sensor readout, 6k60p. With a 14bit ADC and more dynamic range than any full frame.
It's official. Casey went from a Fujifilm afficionado into a Full Nikon Shill. Narrowly escaping the clutches of bankruptcy, Nikon rides again. The Z6III is a destroyer of worlds.
Can you Handel the Truth? I know we all grow up thinking if you had a Nikon camera you had one of the best money could buy, there was even a song about Nikon camera. I bought into this lie my self, I was in denial for years, and I have the z9 and z8 and zf and z62. I keep making excuses for Nikon not being if focus. But Nikon brought me to tears literally. And I own all the best so called Nikon glass too, when Nikon can’t ever get in studio portraits in focus. I am in progress of selling every last Nikon thing I own. No more excuses. I do on the Sony A1. A7cr and A7r5 and there’s no comparison Sony is king of cameras and this is coming from someone who has spent 100 k on Nikons crappy gear.
Last thing were always talking about Nikon color science. Just be sure and set your WB. On any camera light room presets. A few sliders and your making magical images you just can’t fix an out of focus image.
Do you ever consider upgrading to Lumix? Better Image, better features, better price. But you been down on them ever since you knocked the S511x on the floor .. Show us the bumble bee and horse footage you did with Luiz against any of these shots and the truth shall set you free! 😅
I have a Z8. IMO it beats the Z6III in everyway, apart from 240p, which I am hopeful will come in the next firmware update. Has better autofocus with a fully stacked sensor, better dynamic range, etc. I prefer not having a flippy screen personally as I do not vlog, but if I did there are ways around it with a mirror mod. The weight is actually not significant either, it feels really good in the hand. I use it with the 40mm for street and it is fine
These silly videos are pretty much worthless. We use many different cameras on film shoots/production. The reality is that they are relatively equal these days. AF performance is stellar on all of the latest Canon/Nikon/Sony bodies. Choose the features you need, and the lens selection along with what fits in your hand best. That's all there is to it. I happen to like my pair of Z9's along with the Zf for casual use. But I could easily shoot with Sony or Canon and get the same results. The camera wars have ended and it's now a dull draw for the most part. The photographer skills and talent will be 99% of the result.
To be perfectly honest I prefer Sony color science to this one today. Serious question - Have I just been using it so much that I'm under the spell of my reptilian overlords?
Gotta say, the cinema is getting pretty close here. Z6iii with the USSR glass is quite impressive looking. Helios and Jupiter lenses are something else! Them Ruskies knew how to copy tech (Zeiss) really well back in the day.
It upsets me that you have the helios and have NOT done one scene with the swirly bokeh. I find to make the bokeh swirl you have to be around 6 feet away from the camera. Do it already. Fine the sweet spot.
Sharpness isn't just the sensor it's the lens. If you don't like Nikon lenses I don't know what to say. You can nearly adapt any lens to the Nikon Z system due to the distance of the flange to the sensor.
I thought that at first as well, until I realised that by default Standard is selected for picture mode, which applies sharpening to the image, even when shooting raw. Need to change it to Flat or Portrait, and then will look much better

The best nikon camera is the D700.
Did you just achieve the 2D pop in 6K? You normally make the higher number pop
Here every morning!
@@mikeosborn9584 The Z 70-200/2.8 is awesome, I have the 1.4x and 2.0x TC's for it too and they are great.
Still prefer Nikon color science. How about D850?
I was checking dpreview's studio comparison pictures, and it was interesting to see that both the Z8 and Z9 had strange colorful noise even at ISO 64, probably some kind of moire, in small, contrasty areas (for example on that old family drawing on the left side). The Z6iii didn't show any of it.
Has someone experienced this issue in real life situations?
I like thevcomposition of this video. The colors are cool as well. I bet it looks great on a esiting monitor. Pooptube ruins everything
I'd choose the Zf for one reason, that is to piss of the fujihead 😂
14 gigabytes you just caused me hahah
Which 600mm you have?
T6.3.
@@cameraconspiracies You mean f/6.3. T stops refer to light transmission and I very much doubt the 600 f/6.3 has a transmission of T6.3.
@@johnbanks9392 T is for Toneh.
Nice. What made you go for the 600 6.3 over the 180-600 6.3
Z8 and z9 alone worth the 2.3 crop mode in 4k120p if you want to be wildlife videographer. Z6iii can't do that (you confirmed it yourself). 2 years ago we were obligated to get z9 as there was no other option anyway, lol
Nor would I want to get 1 inch sensor results from my full frame camera.
@cameraconspiracies Not sure what you mean as I'm no expert but not long ago you didn't even want to mention Nikon for wildlife but here we are 😁
@@dicekolev5360he wasn’t yet a carnivore so less blood flow to the brain.
CAN you actually tell us how deep the c70 crop is?? I keep hearing it is only 1.3x??? True? Or canon lies?
Its 1.6
I tried 4k120p at work, I was filming footage inside our factories and then the quarry workshops where they work on stones.
Film more exciting things.
@@cameraconspiracies LMAO! 😂

LOOL!
Noisy shadows, or otherworldly entities? They could be a feature for some content creators.
Sold zf for z8 i like both but z8 is much better for me
Best Cripple Hammer appearance yet.
Nikon is so contrasted so sharp i don't like , it's not cinematic. i prefere Fuji or Lumix for color science and log.
It's official. Casey went from a Fujifilm afficionado into a Full Nikon Shill. Narrowly escaping the clutches of bankruptcy, Nikon rides again. The Z6III is a destroyer of worlds.
Z52 is the best wildlife camera
now writing this, I realize Nikon have discontinued the Z5
yes
D200. I will always regret selling it.
Why is this video so out of focus? Now where are my glasses...
Z6II
Someone steal all Casei's socks, i can't watch this
8:30 - if only you had the Fuji...
You complaining about weight but Nikon seems to be leading the pack on the lens weight loss program. Maybe it's time to hit the gym bro.
I can't believe the Z8 has no mechanical shutter. It's the Tesla Cybertruck of cameras.
It doesn't need to. The readout speed is ridiculously fast thanks to the truly stacked sensor :)
Do you ever consider upgrading to Lumix? Better Image, better features, better price. But you been down on them ever since you knocked the S511x on the floor .. Show us the bumble bee and horse footage you did with Luiz against any of these shots and the truth shall set you free! 😅
I miss the Panasonic Peace Pony!
You spelled downgrade wrong :)
@cameraconspiracies lol
your links to amazon are an effing waste of my time - they NEVER have prices on display or 'offers for sale'....so what's the friggin' point Amazon?!!
I care not about video 4k, 6k 8k means nothing, dynamic range and manual dials and focus yay vs generic plastic blob with raw
Missing 61 MP.
A shitty Soviet lens is still a shitty Soviet lens even when the westerners are suddenly discovering that crap. Character my ass.
Most modern cameras create perfectly fine files; however, I do find Sonys files to be a pain to work with and garbage out of camera
try pineapple pizza for your ailments
I thought ALL REAL PROFESSIONALS USE SONY OR CANON
Gotta say, the cinema is getting pretty close here. Z6iii with the USSR glass is quite impressive looking. Helios and Jupiter lenses are something else! Them Ruskies knew how to copy tech (Zeiss) really well back in the day.
Bottom line in the Z line. If you need top performance go for the Z9, especially if you use heavy lenses.
If you are stills main, Z8 all the way. Hybrid shooters Z6iii, video main - don't even think about Z8, it's an hard hit to your pocket
D850
I sold the ZF due to the flippy screen and went back to Fuji, which is who they are trying to emulate. couldn't be happier.
It upsets me that you have the helios and have NOT done one scene with the swirly bokeh. I find to make the bokeh swirl you have to be around 6 feet away from the camera. Do it already. Fine the sweet spot.
So much BS !
partially stacked =girlfriend
i don't like nikon camera , so sharp , so clinic.
Sharpness isn't just the sensor it's the lens. If you don't like Nikon lenses I don't know what to say. You can nearly adapt any lens to the Nikon Z system due to the distance of the flange to the sensor.
They are all like that these days lol.
I thought that at first as well, until I realised that by default Standard is selected for picture mode, which applies sharpening to the image, even when shooting raw. Need to change it to Flat or Portrait, and then will look much better
Obviously its the d200 duh
