i went to shows with both cliff alive, and jason around, and honestly, the live vids we have don’t do it justice, bc james and cliff had so much chemistry, and it was so much more fun to watch james always stare and crack a smile at cliff it was awesome man, u can tell jason was trying, but he’ll never be more that a glorified yes man

This performance just shows how great of a fit Jason was for them, after recently losing Cliff. Such are the ways of the undisputed Kings of Metal. This was the year I remember being introduced to how epic of a group they are.

Lars is right up there as one of my fave drummers ever! Absolute beast around this time. Kirk nailing that lead guitar (absolute master). James, well hasn’t been said about the great man, king of riffs and superb vocalist and of course Jason on Bass who for me is the best bassist Metallica have had in terms of stage presence. Cliff was a genius and Rob now is a great bass player but Jason had something special on stage
It’s beyond amazing how MetallicA could pack in 10,000 fans in a show, with ZERO radio play back in the late 80s. It was all loyal fans and word of mouth.
Regarding the crowd: for most of us who were Long-time Metallica fans, this was their first headline tour. We were pumped for them and us. It was a validation that we were right and these guys were great. Metallica kicked our ass for 2 1/2 hours and we loved every second of it.
Probably their best gig ever. I've seen them twice in Helsinki, 1994 and 1996. For me sadly it hasn't been the same without Jason. Gotta love him on this "DIE, DIE, DIE, MOTHER F***ER, DIE!".

I dont know what year, but when James burned his face on the the pyro and obviously couldn't finish the concert they tried to get Guns and Rose's to come out and perform. Axle rose refused and the crowd rioted and destroyed a bunch of shit

Yeah, Jason’s aggressive vocals are deeply missed. His energy and stage presence are severely lacking with today’s Metallica, but I have to also keep things in perspective… Jason messed his neck up so much with his head banging that he can’t tour very much anymore, so it’s probably the best that he got out while he did. At least he’s finally earned the respect he wasn’t shown while he was in the band.
