    Paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) were a common component of fish communities in the large rivers of the Mississippi River drainage before 1900. Overharvest and human alteration of rivers have resulted in significant declines in paddlefish populations. Construction of dams on rivers has especially affected paddlefish by altering traditional river habitats and disrupting spawning migrations and other movements.
    Paddlefish have been lost from four states and Canada, and 11 of 22 states within the remaining species range now list the paddlefish as endangered, threatened, or a species of special concern. Restoration of paddlefish populations is a shared goal of many state and federal agencies

      Paddle fish are good eating and each state regulates the limit to be harvested. He's legal on his catch.
      Let's eat!

      it’s against the LAW to keep paddle fish in the state of ALABAMA. People would fish just for the eggs to sell and it was out of control in some places. Thanks for the video.

    Spoonbill are not endangered in oklahoma. They eat zooplankton so the only way to catch them is to snag them. In Oklahoma you are allowed to keep two spoonbill per year. There are so many of these fish in these waters, its like fishing in a barrel.

    Ohio use to have a bunch until some dams were built and since the 1800s they have declined. and are now endangered. most of what's left is in the Ohio river east of Portsmouth. People do catch them in the state ,but they have to be released and illegal to harvest there eggs. I remember my dad saying he caught one as a kid in the 30s 40s in Southern Ohio.

    I guess the reason I would like to see you build a bow is because you take your time and pay attention to detail you are good at making videos that I can learn from there are lots of videos on the web of people making bows but they are very brief they don't cover all the steps very well they're more worried about ratings and reviews than they are actually getting the point across I hope to see hey good video about making a self bow from you soon

    Snag fishing is illegal in Texas. And yes. They are considered endangered in many states. They nest over gravel beds in slow moving shallow water. My personal opinion? They should be left alone. But just because that is my opinion, I don't begrudge others that don't or may not share my opinion. It's a free country.

      +Edgar Espinoza They aren't related but some people call them spoon bill catfish.

    • @closinginonclosure
      @closinginonclosure 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Dunse I've never heard them referred to as Spoonbill Catfish. I've only heard them called Spoonbill. And I'm on the water at least 4 times a week. All around different parts of Oklahoma and surrounding states. Talking to multiple other fishermen. So, those who throw catfish in the name must be absolute idiots and rarely go fishing. just like the people who call any species of small fish a perch or brim. Haha. If people go as far as throwing a line in the water. They need to be educated. Need to have a fishing license and follow the laws regarding the fish they catch and keep. There are far too many people out there who don't have a clue what they're doing and what they're catching. It's absolutely pathetic and damaging to the population of wildlife.

    • @kevindunseoutdoors26
      @kevindunseoutdoors26 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +closinginonclosure the terms brim and perch are regional things, now I don't know to much about paddlefish but I've heard of them called spoon bill cats in other videos as well.

    • @closinginonclosure
      @closinginonclosure 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Dunse Being regional things doesn't make them correct. Slang is a regional thing. Ya'll is used in the south, yet it's technically not proper grammar and is short for you all. I was born in Wisconsin. Lived 15 years in Tennessee. A couple years in California. Texas. Louisiana. Currently Oklahoma. I agree that perch and brim are regional. Brim is huge in TN, MS, and AR. Perch is huge in OK and surrounding states. Up in Wisconsin, everyone called it exactly what it was. Blue Gill, crappie...so on. I guess it's similar to southerners calling all soda "coke". I'm not targeting you personally. Only trying to clarify my point.

      As of April 2019 in the State of Oklahoma...…
      Residents and nonresidents must obtain a free paddlefish permit in addition to a fishing license before fishing for paddlefish. The free permit is available at wildlifedepartment.com or from fishing license dealers or any Wildlife Department office in the state (see Fisheries Offices, Public Fishing Areas).
      Paddlefish daily limit is one daily on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Any paddlefish caught on a Monday or Friday must be released immediately. Anglers cannot possess a paddlefish in the field on Mondays or Fridays.
      Once you keep a fish, you must stop paddlefish fishing (snagging) for the day, tag the fish immediately with the angler’s name, lifetime license number or customer ID number to the paddlefish, date and time of harvest permit and report the harvest using the online E-Check system.

      Don't know if you are aware that paddlefish are plankton feeders. You can't catch them on a normal baited hook, at least I can't keep the little plankton on the hook.

      You'd eat it if you were hungry instead of over fed like the majority of people. Survival training 101. If it secrets it's waste through it's skin Don't eat it! All other animals that secret their waste through the same method as we do as in through a bowel movement = good to eat so go for it.

      Well it looks like I'm gonna learn you today. There's a place up the north east of Oklahoma called Miami,Ok and what they do every year is they let go of hundreds of paddle fish and when ppl catch them they sit by the river and run studies to keep track of this specie and get the eggs off the fish so that ppl wont sell them on the black market. Also there's a river named Neosho river and every year ppl go out there to snag. I been there several times and you are allowed to keep one a day and two a year plus you have to report your harvest online and make sure you tag the fish as soon as you land the fish. If you don't tag it you can end up with a ticket of $150.00 the guy warden gave us a $200.00 ticket because we didn't do that and of course we didn't know. All barbs on the treble hook MUST be shaved off before snagging and if you don't then that's another fine. you want to talk about protecting this specie. look up paddle fish regulations in Oklahoma to get more info.
