Check out Leon's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Leon has been playing since he was 4 years old, playing gigs since he was 14, and been a HUGE sessions player, not to mention holding his own solitary career for some time. Check out Mad Dogs and Englishmen's The Letter... the man can play blind folded. Cheers to Leon, and cheers to Elton for bringing him back to life! The man came back from a 5 hour brain surgery to record with Elton, and also heart failure. He's phenomenal!
It's always sad to see the great musicians of our youth, when they begin to age. It reminds us of our own immortality, as well. He did, however, have brain surgery, at the time when he was working with Elton. The man can still play... always a great sessions player, from early on, and loved his own music... sing on, Leon. We will love you forever.

I didn't learn, until a few years ago, that Elton John shared the influence Leon Russell had on his style and the respect Elton held for Leon's musical genius and all Leon's various talents. The have always been my favorite artists.

Leon Russell is still amazing. Hate to see him so frail, it really sucks getting old.

When Elton starts Tiny Dancer...instantly transported to that world when you first heard it ❤️ absolute magic, you can't manufacture that
No one has more soul than Leon! He puts his whole heart in everything he does! I would rather listen to him than anyone! Leon's love for people comes thru in his music. He makes you feel happy and hopeful! My favorite song he does is " Jesus will take me home" And guess what? JESUS did! Rest in the Saviors arms sweet Leon!

Listening to the rolling thunder of Monkey Suit was a little like the 1976 Louder Than Concorde ( But Not Quite As Pretty) tour, when they started off with 'Grow Some Funk On Your Own' from Rock of the Westies. He can still crank it out. And nice to see Miriam Margoyles on backing vocals

When I close my eyes Leon Russel sounds A LOT like Willie Nelson (anyone get the same feel?) ...I'm a huge fan of Willie Nelson - actually everything from Chopin to ACDC ...music is amazing !
Leon worked extensively w/ Willie back in the day. They share a Grammy for "Heartbreak Hotel" which they redid in the 80's.They remain good friends to this day.l

@@beingshar, since I last responded, Leon has, of course, passed on. Willie Nelson, Elton John and Bernie Taupin were among his pall bearers. Willie & Elton are, seemingly, from two different worlds, but their admiration and love for Leon is well known. They are not alone. The whole music universe stopped and paid tribute at his passing. There was and will never be anyone like him.
Rumer's version of This Masquerade is absolutely superb. My favourite non Elton song from this gig.

You can really tell that these musicians are playing behind the beat as opposed to Elton’s band which plays ahead of the beat

Plan B was absolutely horrific with "I guess that's why the blues". He does not belong on the same stage as Elton.

So, when he introduced the kid called Plan B singing "I Guess Why They Call It The Blues", I was puzzled. So I googled Plan B and found a reference to Levonorgestrel, the "morning after pill". This guy had a terrible marketing plan, in addition to a terrible voice.

Understand that this wass not billed as an "Elton John concert", rather it was part of an annual series of concerts called the "BBC2 Radio Electric Proms" - the English proms attract a different audience. .

I have no idea. Mary J Blige did only slightly better on this song when she did it. He found his grove later. But it was clear he didn’t know the verse. Bonus: Elton’s playing was fantastic - even adjusting tempo for the singer. The singer cannot sing. He’s absolutely terrible.
Elton always wants to be hip and pertinent so he invites people he thinks will be the next big thing. He was wrong here.

While watching this video, and reading the comments - mention was made of how "awful" Plan B was. I was wondering what, who, why is Plan B, and I was looking for it all over this page - until EJ introduced the "Plan B" ... well, I have to agree with the commentors!! Not impressive - quite nasal, and no soul!!

It just feels like he doesn’t know the song well. Maybe he does, and just interprets poorly, but it’s all over the place. Not a good performance. Not even Buffalo Wild Wings karaoke worthy.
Elton has made the mistake before of aligning himself with younger artists who could never come close to approaching his level of talent.
