Had 4 hernias fixed Dec 2019. Mesh used. After 6 wks I was backcountry skiing again. Started with gentle walking on day 3, kept increasing distance daily. After 6 days, could walk about 5 miles. Today it's still doing fine. I hike, climb mtns, ski. Rarely any pain, slight discomfort if I overdo some exercise. Goes away in day or 2. I just turned 70, btw.
Hey Alan! What kind of shape were you in prior to the 4x hernia surgery?? I’m going in soon for a robotic procedure with mesh for 4 hernias soon as well and am very nervous about it. I’m late 30s but have have inactive due to poor diet plus other injuries over the past 8 years that all limited my mobility). I used to be in really good shape like in my teens and most of my 20’s but past 10 years or so have all been downhill, healthwise. I desperately wanna get back into intense physical activity or even just basic working out since it makes me so happy to be in shape, and I know exercise can be a huge factor in weight loss... I know I’m younger but I’m worried my health going into this thing will be a big factor (I’m 5’8” and 180lbs, overweight mostly in the belly, sadly) so any more information about your health going into your journey would be greatly appreciated.

@@Andy-Frank I was in decent shape before the surgery, I still hiked a lot, was 5 ft 10, 160 lbs but bulging hernia was becoming bothersome/painful.. My slim build made me more prone to inguinal hernias doc said. The surgery was no big deal, when I came to, he said he fixed 4 all with mesh. Don't sweat it. By day 3, I walked around the block, then added distance every day or 2. It was December 2019, and my worry was falling on ice and tearing something apart. I didn't tho. After 6 wks I was back skiing. Been good ever since. Fixing hernias these days is so common, it's like a plumber fixing a dripping tap. They've seen it all and fixing it is straightforward for them.
Thank you for this, am so worried as having complete abdominal component separation w/ mesh, 3 hernias and previous open abdominal surgery and repair of resultant colostomy too, 2 babies, several other of the hernia risk factors…..needed to hear some positive results!

Fast forward to a new inguinal hernia on my right side. Pretty disappointed that surgeons in my area only do mesh repairs now. I had surgery 5 years ago. I too felt fine afterward. But mesh is a foreign object in the body. Your body changes over time. Mesh doesn't. Every now and then I feel extreme pain in the area where the mesh is. Most days I am fine. If I knew then what I know now I would have insisted on surgery without mesh even though the risk of reoccurrence is higher. My advice is to continue to work out, diet and exercise so that your body doesn't make too many changes.
I had laparoscopic mesh back around 2001 and never had any complications. Not long after the surgery I never had even the slightest reminder that anything had ever been wrong. I ran the marathon that year, and in those days did weight training until decades later when COVID closed down the gyms. I still run, but at my present age very slowly.

As an RN, I spoke with a surgeon who will occasionally repair a prior surgery from some other surgeon, who had used mesh to repair a lower abdominal hernia. He stated that frequently, when surgeons use the mesh to repair the hernia from reoccurring, stated that many surgeons will only Tack in the mesh to be held in place, was minimal sutures to hold in place or retain the mesh in that spot. He says they may use only four or five sutures to do this, he stated when he does his surgical procedure whether it’s a new procedureor a rehash of a prior surgery gone bad, is that he will suture all the way around the mesh, and it never fails and or come loose!
Bilateral inguinal hernia mesh six years ago, problems immediately after, no problems showed in tests and after a five year long fight i went out of state for removal surgery and it was wrapped around blood supply left side. One year later i figure out (not a doctor) i pulled a pelvic muscle that affected the testicle cord and that the mesh made these issue's worse. Just starting therapy after six years of deteriorating pelvic muscles. Natural repair advocate here the mesh in my case was tight and continued to tighten after surgery.

Omg. I think this is what is happening to me . I'm getting soooo sick and nobody can figure out why . I had two hernia mesh implanted and muscles repaired by my pelvis . Now I feel like there's a tight band in there. It causes horrible constipation, horrible reflux, I desperately need help . Has anyone else gotten really sick from these ? Brain swelling , high blood pressure , brain fog ,hormone problems ,panic attacks ,etc
it's abit similar, that after i got my laparoscopic surgery done, i felt something that i've never felt before in the past (before surgery). initially i felt discomfort around my pelvic and groin area, urinating feels like a torture and it felt like im having a UTI, but it doesn't burn when i urinate. after 4 weeks have passed, the pain is 80% reduced, and i am still having around 20% discomfort. I then turned to TCM that alleviates the discomfort i am having. I went to the local TCM practitioner in my area and he prescribed me powder capsules that supposed to reduce the discomfort, the TCM medication i consumed is similar to the patented TCM medication that you guys can find on the internet called "Ba Zheng San" - but my local TCM practitioner added few more herbs on top of that. I've been taking it for a week and it gives me around 10% discomfort. I know that TCM doesn't work the same like Western medication, TCM works slower but sure, but at least no harsh side effects like many antibiotics do. On top of the TCM i took, i also consume quercetin supplements and been doing kegel exercise too. l am just hoping that this will get resolved soon in 3-6 months.
@@ahsnap9103 I had an inguinal hernia on the left side an since surgery 7 years ago an everything has been great until last this August I injured myself at work a week after having a heat stroke and stood up too fast from a stooped position and felt my left testicle pull really bad an had immediate pain an a limp. And since then I've been having stabbing pains on the left side of my pelvis and it feels like it's the mesh or something internally stabbing me along with testicle pain. I've had 2 panic attacks and have been to Dr's, urologists, ER's and none of them are exactly sure what it is. They think I pulled a muscle when I injured myself an now that the mesh is pinching nerves. An causing the pain. The only remedy I've heard so far is getting nerve ablation or nerve blocking shots. And It just doesn't sit right with me. I've already been on pills an could still feel the pain an they just messed my stomach up. But they also have found an epydidmal cyst on my testicle thru an ultrasound an just looking up symptoms on google it seems to me now it could be the cyst causing the pain. It's exhausting an painful. I ended up getting laid off of that job an have yet to be able to find another due to the pain. I pray God gives me a solution!

I had mine yesterday, femoral/inguinal. Sore but not in agony. I was concerned. I heard all kinds of things. Three weeks back to work, six weeks plus and back to the gym but carefully. I had a Facetime with a friend the night before. His girlfriend's ex-roommate was in the background, had it done twice, The First was an open when he was twenty, out of work for two months, you are dreaming about six weeks, blah, blah. Well, my surgeon begged to differ. I'm almost 65 but have been doing gym classes and yoga faithfully for over two years, not obese or type two diabetic...what I'm saying is how fit you are, the skill of the surgeon, how big the rupture...it all depends. I wanted to get on with my life positively. No regrets.
Nice concise and informative video thanks. For a anyone in the UK wanting to avoid a mesh repair I thoroughly recommend Mr Simon Marsh at the Gilmore Groin and Hernia Clinic, London. I was offered a mesh repair by the NHS but declined and consequently found the very experiencd and adept Mr Marsh. Yes I'm out of pocket but 1 year on am so pleased with my recovery. I would urge people to research all the pros and cons but for me I was never comfortable with the thought of plastic in my body especially when there is a viable alternate.
Reading some of these comments in here I can’t believe people want so long with an inguinal hernia. I had one in 2009 on the right side. It was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life. I was in Germany at the time and I couldn’t wait for the doctor to get me in to get it done. He used mesh and so far so good.
they used to but the rate of recurrence was very high because abdominal wall pressure is very strong. The expansion of the internal abdominal wall tears a primary suture closure back open which is why they began using mesh. they are coming out with mesh that fully absorbs and disappears over time therefore its your own collagen covering the defect after abosrption.

Had non-mesh repair in 2014 -- all good thus far (I'm 78). In the initial consultation, the surgeon asked why I wanted non-mesh; I told him I had heard little positive about the use of mesh. He said "no problem" as he knew some 20+ methods to repair a hernia and would decide on the method to use when he got in and saw the condition of the nearby body parts. He made no effort to inform me of the benefits of mesh use -- maybe he did not think them to be great enough to bother informing me. Post-op, while I was still out, the doctor my wife that the method he used had a 15% failure rate in 5 years.

Double inguinal hernia operation with mesh and titanium screws done laparoscopically two years ago. Went grocery shopping the next day. Running again two weeks later. It's great not having great lumps popping out down there anymore. Feeling very normal and glad I had them both done at the same time. I did live with one for about ten years and then the other one popped out. Was cheaper getting both done at the same time, about 10K. I thought of it like cosmetic surgery. If people get implants done all the time for vanity reasons why wouldn't I get a hernia done for a good reason?
I had an open inguinal hernia (2cm>) repair with mesh two weeks ago, no pain at all so far, only a minor swelling on day 2&3 at the surgical site. I’m probably lucky, I felt like I was ready for a workout the same day, walked 5k the next day and then 10-20k daily + weights in the way it didn’t involve abdomen. Today restarted indoors cycling, easy easy as I’m afraid to fail the mesh. 52 yo, fit (endurance athlete). Hopefully gradually back to running and swimming in two weeks from now
The mesh that I got 12 years ago destroyed me. Before the surgery I had only a bulge without sensations. After the surgery - permanent discomfort and sometimes even pain. Eventually the bulge popped back and it is slowly getting worse. The thought of having another surgery totally freaks me out. I am stuck.
Same scenario for me as you 2 been thru. Found a quality surgeon that did a robotic inguinal repair 4 days ago, and it went 99.9% better this time and everything feels like it's in a better/right place down there, only the higher up surgical wounds ache a bit. I'm due a umbilical hernia operation from what I've been told it will need to be open surgery with a cut about 6" long from just below my very protruding navel up towards my chest. There is also a bulge just above my navel and I can feel the side walls of my stomach muscles when I lie down and let gravity help to push it all back in, the opening feels like a good 1.5" (4cm). I'm told I'll need a mesh repair as it's going to be a rebuild. I am scared and frightened as I've heard of problems in years past with mesh getting stiff and painfull. I had a strangulation of the colon before my emergency hernia surgery, so they weren't able to put in a mesh because my colon was ...shall we say, pissed? No loss or perforation of the colon but they were just worried about infection or perforation. They warned me it could require re-repair and sure enough it did. This time around I had a mesh and it's been rock solid ever since. I'll take the risk of meshes over strangulation. @tudorconducta1929 I'm glad to hear that you're recovering well. My hernia repair is set for March, and I'm terrified. A big part of me wants to find a way to live with it and bypass surgery. Can you please give me a rough week to week timeline of pain levels, and at what point you were able to do things unassisted?
@@computerblue01 of course. Really the worst day was day two, but in fairness, they had warned me about it. It’s because your surgeon will put some internal anaesthetic which wears off about 48 hours after the surgery, and that’s why day two it’s the worst time. Now don’t imagine some horrible unimaginable pain. It’s just sore, and then you go online to find out why you’re sore, and you find out all these horror stories which, as you say mainly reflect how things used to be. But to give you an idea I was back at work on day five I’m a musician, and on day eight I was on stage giving a piano concert. I have been literally pain-free since about day 8. I kept forgetting to take the painkillers that they prescribed me because I wasn’t in any pain. You’ve got to be careful and remember not to lift more than 5 kgn it’s easy to forget because I really felt absolutely fine and normal. I’m going to be four weeks since the operation in a couple of days, and they will let me start lifting my own bag to go to work, which is the only thing wasn’t allowed to do. I have full trust in the doctors. Listen carefully to what they tell you about after-care, listen carefully to the physiotherapist, who will visit you either just before, or after surgery, and do the very simple physical exercises that they give you. It’s really important that you don’t just lie in bed, that you move as early as you can so that it heals not just in straight line, but actually it heals organically around your body movements. Roughly 24 hours after surgery I was up by myself in the house, going up and down the stairs, Was completely independent and didn’t need any support walking. You will be absolutely fine. Listen carefully to the advice and be proactive, move as early as you can, and do the physio exercises. On day one I could barely do them , but then it gets better. And that’s the thing - to do them a little every day. You have to lift up your knee and on day two I over did it and it sent shooting pains, but that was because I forced it. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Where are you having it done? I was in central London.
I had my 4th hernia surgery 15 years ago and second time with mesh. The previous mesh had disintegrated. It took the surgeon considerable time to locate and remove all of the pieces.
Most times it’s the surgeon not the mesh that causes problems. I had to have a hernia operation repaired because the surgeon was a train wreck. The new doctor who did the repair told me as soon as he opened me up the mesh from the first surgeon popped out. This new surgeon uses a technique where he sews the mesh onto the abdominal wall. I’ve had zero problems with this technique.
I've had two inguinal hernias (each side) repaired with the mesh (one side in 2012, the other in 2019). I could not be happier with them. If you're living with hernia discomfort and unsightliness, don't hesitate...just get it done. It's outpatient surgery and recovery is a breeze.

umbilical hernia repair. I had it done May 2024 and it took the full 30 days to recover with the binder. Super painful to laugh or cough and sitting up straight was the worst. Then I started to do yoga, adjusting the workout to accommodate my lack of mobility or stretching to much. I felt like I was recovering well until October when the mesh started to feel like it is pulling or without give. But very sad to feel like I am going backwards in recovery. Hope to ease the pain soon and that I don’t have to get more surgery.

I had an umbilical hernia surgery lap repair under left rib . Hernia is above belly button. Had surgery just over 12months ago. Its been the most painfull twelve months of my life !! I had mesh , 40 poprivets and sown in . A couple emergency room visits . ( Nothing found ) Im thinking scar tissue . Getting it checked again in weeks time. Spending most of my time on lounge and bed as the pain is tiring.
I had mesh repair that wrapped around my intestines incarcerating it of course giving me a bowel blockage. That was in 2015, previous to that was the 2010 surgery when it was put in me due to incisioninal hernia. The pain had been non stop .
For everyone who need a surgery i have to say dont be scared i did it and first day is good you can walk just careful, and after 4days there is no pain at all, i did it before 5days and its ok,dont be scared, hello from Bosnia 😊
I have an umbilical hernia which I believe was caused by throwing up when I was on chemo and radiation. I actually threw up my jejunal feeding tube until it was a couple inches from my airway. The Surgeon said in 20,000 operations , he had never seen that. It had been protruding out of my stomach valve for several days, and now the valve is less efficient. (Replacement peg tube was put in after that.) I could see on the scope pictures the old tube displacement. The doctor let me watch on the monitor. 15 years later, I was wondering if I needed a hernia operation. The Surgeon who was going to do the operation was going to use a round patch that was a little larger than a silver dollar. I felt like he was doing assembly line hernia operations (he was talking fast). He showed me the patch. I cancelled the surgery. I don't think, years later, that the patch would have been nearly large enough. Fat protrudes, and I push it back in. When I weigh less, it affects me less. I nearly died of the treatment, but it cured me.
Just had my hernia repair this past Tuesday, and it was extremely painful the first 3 days, but here I am day 4, and I’m able to walk around and stand up straight (with a belly binder). Despite the pain, I would go through this surgery verses dealing with an incarcerated/ strangulated bowel any day!!
@@GonzoReactsI’m a little over a month and I have no pain, no discomfort, and I only wear the binder if I’m sitting down for too long to give support. 😊
@@GonzoReactsI feel perfectly fine now. I can lift weights, bend down, sneeze, and get up without fear of it popping out or causing extreme pain.

My mum had this mesh during an ileostomy. It never healed because the area around the mesh infected and was growing out of her body. She had to have a second ileostomy but unfortunately the mesh ultimately took her life. That wouldn't operate to remove it because she'd become too old and frail, because of the damn mesh. She'd still be alive now if not for the mesh.

Agree. I have a small umbilical hernia that developed during my pregnancy and was thinking about surgery....? But I decided not to risk my life, it's too much risk and untold possible complications. I can live with it. Why do they do it only under general anesthetic is another suspicious question to me. It's better to avoid hospitals. 😢😮

I see some (a lot?) of complaints about pain after having the mesh installed. I was wondering if that might be related to how the patient behaves during recovery? A patient who is afraid of moving around after surgery might let the scar tissue form one way on the mesh and be rigid while a patient who moves around normally might heal differently and create a "slack" in the tissue/mesh junction thus causing less pain.
Did you ever consider that the hetnia surgery probably has nothing to do with your current problems, they just developed due to other reasons? Its unlikely that surgery on the torso would do anything to the feet.
Yeah 100% that’s what I’ve been told anyway. Like I say I had the operation when I was 3 I think and I’m 22 now and have had no complications nor need a replacement. Plus I do construction at college so I’m lifting heavy things all day long

I chose Dr. Mandelbaum above Shouldice hospital, 3 years later it feels 90 %+ as normal compared to never having the hernia. Shouldice said they may sever and resect the nerves to my testes. Dr. Mandelbaum said he would be gentle, and asked how my partner's healed, after he got over the shock he was operating on the second of us for the same thing one year apart. The Shouldice surgery would be under local anesthetic and includes exploration surgery of 3 other hernia sites because they refuse to review diagnostic imaging and they merrily graft from the tissues as they go along. At the end, there is insertion of steel wire, convalescence and another surgery to remove all the steel wire. Brutal, like the movie Saw.
I had a hernia mesh surgery 7 years ago, I injured myself at work back in August and felt my groin pull, I've been having abdomen and testicle pain since I've been to Drs, Urologist and General Surgeons been on pain pills and they barely worked for the pain. @@shadygrizzly I hope someone can find a solution for your pain. I've had nerve blockings and ablations too. Unfortunately without having good results. The mesh can't be removed anymore. This is my second mesh.
My inguinal hernia mesh from about 9 years ago has never been right. I felt it for years, even though my surgeon told me i couldn't do. After i pointed out to him the borders of the mesh he changed his mind. I found out later my problems revolve around having very low body fat and far more developed abdominal muscles then most people. What happens is the mesh attached itself to my bladder. Making a full bladder painful. So if you are an athlete with very low body fat be VERY insistent with your surgeon you don't want adhesion to your bladder that needs to expand.
Had my inguinal hernia repaired with mesh in 2001. Ended up with new pain that never has gone away. Nerve adhered to the mesh and got "activated". Now I have chronic groin pain. A couple of months later they had to remove rhe mesh and it had a bunch of stuff adhered to it. Not a good time.
I has a hernia mesh inserted in 2017 foot an inguinal hernia and it has been the bane of my existence ever since. It’s like having a metal zipper caught on your skin.
Hey, @DrNatemiester I’m so sorry to hear that! I’m getting my first hernia mesh surgery next month (four hernias all with mesh at the same time) and dreading the chronic pain as well- I had a LOT of chronic pain following a hip tear repair surgery I got from a biking accident a while back and concerned this will be the same or worse.😢 What was your process when choosing the surgeon for your repair? Did you have a choice? Were you on a tight deadline? And how big was your hernia when you went in for repair? Also, has your body composition changed much in the years following the surgery and do you stay physically active or not so much??
I had a bladder mesh put in five years ago. Two months later I had an incisional hernia. I promptly had that repaired. Six days later the site became infected. My belly swelled up very quickly that my staples split and out spewed at least a quart of pus. I went straight to the doctor the next morning. He used a large needle and syringe to remove another quart of pus. I had surgery again the next day. Within three months I had two hernias. Unfortunately I'm on Medicare so I will have to pay the bulk of the bill to have them repaired. Equally as unfortunate, the first three surgeries wiped out my IRA. So having hernia repair is out of the question. Am I supposed to hope my intestines don't strangulate before I die?

I’m confused because I had an inguinal hernia mesh fitted but after six months I suffered a failure so had the operation done again five weeks ago. The surgeon told me the internal stitches will not dissolve for extra strength. I now have two meshes in the area. I know these things can fail and I’ve heard of terrible pain stories on the internet. I say I’m confused though delighted that I haven’t had any of the pain associated with failure. I had surgery 5 years ago. I too felt fine afterward. But mesh is a foreign object in the body. Your body changes over time. Mesh doesn't. He stated that frequently, when surgeons use the mesh to repair the hernia from reoccurring, stated that many surgeons will only Tack in the mesh to be held in place, was minimal sutures to hold in place or retain the mesh in that spot.
He says they may use only four or five sutures to do this, he stated when he does his surgical procedure whether it’s a new procedureor a rehash of a prior surgery gone bad, is that he will suture all the way around the mesh, and it never fails and or come loose!

it's abit similar, that after i got my laparoscopic surgery done, i felt something that i've never felt before in the past (before surgery). initially i felt discomfort around my pelvic and groin area, urinating feels like a torture and it felt like im having a UTI, but it doesn't burn when i urinate. after 4 weeks have passed, the pain is 80% reduced, and i am still having around 20% discomfort. On top of the TCM i took, i also consume quercetin supplements and been doing kegel exercise too. l am just hoping that this will get resolved soon in 3-6 months.

they used to but the rate of recurrence was very high because abdominal wall pressure is very strong. I had a bilateral inguinal hernia repair years ago. They used a mesh that was like a flat spool or 2 disks connected in the middle. I forget the name of it. It seemed like a good part. I haven;t had any problems with it. I have to say that it was a painful recovery. I think that it tore the muscle on a seated leg press machine.

I'm 54 and had bilateral inguinal & epigastric hernia repair (all with mesh) 2 weeks ago today. The epigastric repair feels really good already, but I'm still dealing with a constant dull ache from the inguinal repairs. Hoping once my healing is complete that it'll last me the rest of my days without issue.
This helped ne thanks

Thank you for sharing your experience,.. please tell me the name of clinic and surgeon doctor where you had your surgery! Best wishes ❤️

Titanium screws???
I am stuck.
I've not been right since having an inguinal hernia repair with mesh, I have constant pain in my left groin
So sorry for your situation.Prayers for recovery 🙏
Same scenario for me as you 2 been thru. Found a quality surgeon that did a robotic inguinal repair 4 days ago, and it went 99.9% better this time and everything feels like it's in a better/right place down there, only the higher up surgical wounds ache a bit. That first "movement" after surgery feels like a meeting with God. Good luck, this injury/recovery from ain't nothing nice.
I just had Recurrence surgery. Make the Appt with the surgeon to get it done again with a most likely different procedure. Get it done. Get it behind you. Make the call NOW.

Hubby has indirect inguinal hernia repair -robotic on the 14th, so 2 weeks ago. He is 76 and coming along well. We were there at the hospital from 12:18 pm to about 4:30pm, when he was discharged. He had pain for about 4 or 5 days but is back to Tylenol now. I would rate the surgeon and surgery highly successful. His was an incarcerated umbilical ligament + fat.

I'm soon to be 69yrs and it's going to take some healing plus I'm on my own, but I've been told it needs doing.
Good luck, i hope everything goes smoothly

I had a strangulation of the colon before my emergency hernia surgery, so they weren't able to put in a mesh because my colon was ...shall we say, pissed? No loss or perforation of the colon but they were just worried about infection or perforation. They warned me it could require re-repair and sure enough it did. This time around I had a mesh and it's been rock solid ever since. I'll take the risk of meshes over strangulation. By far the worst pain I've felt in my life, and I've had multiple back fusions, hip and knee dislocations, and other nasty ouchies. It was bad, y'all. It's no joke.
I had three hernias repaired on March 21 of this year. I'm 75 and live in a cabin off grid in NW Montana. I have to cut my on firewood etc. I have always been fit, Thank God for that. I taught Jujitsu in the basement of the local bank here when I was sixty. Like I said, I've always been fit, but I have to tell you, yhe first week was just hell. Getting in and out of bed to go to yhe bathroom or put a log on the fire was near impossible. The second week was better and today Im back to working out. My surgeon told me that they have a new mesh and that the old one was problematic. He must've been right. I feel great. The first six weeks were sucky, but since then its been all down hill. If you do get hernia surgery, make sure to stay hydrated. Going to the bathroom can br very painful if you don't.
Do you still do jiu jitsu?

I’ve had a laparoscopic hernia repair surgery last week. My consultant used a 3D Bard mesh. I’m feeling relatively ok. No massive pain at the moment. Some mild discomfort. However, I’ve now seen that there are so many lawsuits going on against Bard… I’m worried now. Some talk about the mesh eroding and plastic fibres getting lose in your body… giving you all sorts of health problems. I’m a little bit scared…
Mine felt like Velcro tearing in my body every day. Fevers, trouble using the bathroom for 10+ days 😢
@@creamymercedes In all honesty, I am feeling absolutely fine now. 11 days ago when I posted the first comment I was very worried, but it was the internet hype really. I am absolutely pain-free and am living 100% normally. I have to remember still not to lift anything heavier than 5 kg, as I am still only 2 weeks and a bit after my operation, but I think the newer meshes and techniques are significantly improved.

Dr. Rich, u should do some kind of podcast….u have the voice for it too👍
Most times it’s the surgeon not the mesh that causes problems.
I had my hernia mesh repair last May (24) and all good so far
I've had two inguinal hernias (each side) repaired with the mesh (one side in 2012, the other in 2019). I could not be happier with them. If you're living with hernia discomfort and unsightliness, don't hesitate...just get it done. It's outpatient surgery and recovery is a breeze.

I hope someone can find a solution for your pain.
I’m getting my first hernia mesh surgery next month (four hernias all with mesh at the same time) and dreading the chronic pain as well- I had a LOT of chronic pain following a hip tear repair surgery I got from a biking accident a while back and concerned this will be the same or worse.😢
What was your process when choosing the surgeon for your repair?
I had a ventral hernia repaired with mesh. It resulted in a bowel obstruction (ileus) and 8 days NPO in the hospital.
They checked me for a hiatal hernia because I have really bad acid reflux and I dont have that thank god! I dont know if its the surgeons where I live it but some people I know have had surgery to fix a hiatal hernia and nothing but problems afterwards! 4:13
A family membet of mine is having a horrible experience post surgery. I feel like they need to find a better solution for hernias. Do not get surgery!
Hi i also have a hiatus hernia and take a tablet every day for it. I have been to see a Surgeon aboit it and was informed not to get it done. Its is an operation that only gets done as the last resort. The tablet i take keeps my reflux in check and when i dont take it its hell. I take it 30min before i have my main meal at night.
Fingers crossed this lasts and post surgery pain on both occasions especially the second time was very limited.
Update? Any pain?
@@thepatternforms859 no pain.
Under the fading scar I can feel the edge of what's in there with my finger only but no issue to me.
My surgeon was Mr Ragput Spire hospital Leeds.
Fingers crossed it stays in place.

Hello.....update as requested
Sadly it's failed but thankfully no pain.
I'm waiting to see a surgeon but doubt I'll have it done again.
There's a lot of pressure from within because of wind constipation and a month of caught and sneezes.
After each operation I was very careful for six weeks slowly returning to normal activities.
What mesh is good for repairing incisional hernia
Many thanks Doctor! What about dissolving meshes?
My inguinal hernia has been noticeable since I’ve been losing weight. Many sit ups, burpees, push ups, and running. As of late i have been urinating blood when I push my work out. I’ve stopped completely now. I’m waiting for surgery day and hopefully I can continue later to work out.
Was diagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia today, but the doc did not recommend surgery. My fear is I will eventually need it with the active lifestyle I want to continue... anyone have a recommendation if to insist on getting them repaired even though they're small openings or just be anxiously waiting for them to pop out? With all due respect to elderly people, I still don't aspire to that slower type of lifestyle yet.. I'm 34. All feedback is welcome. Thanks.
A very long time ago, it felt like something was trying to come out of my body, when I went to the bathroom. I tried to push back as hard as I could. I don't see how a mesh can hold back my insides, when I couldn't with both hands.
Why they can't use or invent something natural innovation, something new to use instead of plastic , something which is not causing infection and anything toxic to body but in the same time it's strong and holds everything together without another tear
