Used to shop in Homer when we homesteaded there on the Peninsulsa back in the 1950's. I have old photos of Mom & us kids standing on the steps of a couple old stores . They had wood steps, totem poles out front, very much a western, frontier town in them days. Doubt I'd recognize anything today.
Thank you for making this video. We visited Homer back in 2005 on our way to Kodiak via the ferry there. It was such a lovely town and I remember some of the places you mentioned. Fat Olives was great and there was a coffee place there called Cafe Cups that is worth a visit. I remember walking out on a wooden boardwalk in the marsh area looking for geocaches! There was also a place we got crab legs that were the biggest I have ever seen. So many great memories.
Hi Karen, thanks so much for sharing those memories. I love hearing about other peoples’ experiences in the places I visit. Im envious of your trip to Kodiak as well. Did you go to see the bears? -H
@@CityWalks We don’t tend to think of Alaska when we hear the term “rainforest”. We imagine brutal winters and such. But rainforest it is. And when you walk on tundra, that springy bouncy water bed is a collection of living organisms (plant life). I clearly need to get back up there at some point.
I moved to Homer in 1957 and lived there until i joined the military in 1963. It sure has changed, sad i never went back to visit although I lived in Anchorage after military for many years.
I deckhand on a charterboat in Homer Alaska. Never gets old. Glad you could see it.
Must be very cool job. I'm glad we got to see it as well. Can't wait to get back. Cheers. -H

Beautiful, cozy-looking house at 0:00 !
It's where we stayed, in an AirBnB above. It was fantastic. -H
Beautiful. I believe you’re in a temperate rainforest (all the lush growth).
It's so wet there. The plant life was incredible. Add in the long summer days and you get amazing forests. Thanks for watching and commenting. -H

Lovely peripheries. I guess, nature's extreme environment to live in (I mean, Alaska as a whole:)
So true! Thanks for watching and commenting -H
Beautiful ! Does Homer take its name from Homer the poet of the Iliad and the Odyssey ?
Hi Gina, that’s a great question. I’ll have to look it up. Cheers. - H
No, they take it from Homer Pennock, a con man who ran a gold mine gift in 1896 and was only in the area for one year.
I was in Homer in 1979. Where's the boardwalk n bars?
Hi Gerald, must’ve been a different world back then. Not sure about the bars and boardwalk. We had a great time exploring in 2021 though. - H
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks.
You really should at keast read the sign in front of the building.. Homer is a natiinal treasure.
Thank you. -H

Quiet Alaska

Hi Dee, I can only imagine how raw it must have been back then. True frontier living I imagine. Thanks for sharing. -H
