    I relate so much to you! I also went through a few salons with similar stories, high turnover rate, rude owner. I finally found a small 4 chair salon where the owner is willing to invest in my career :)
    I love these types of videos keep it up!

    I love this video, and thank you so much for taking the time to make it. When I first came out of school a few years ago, I went to a salon to assist; and to say they treated me like dirt there is an understatement.. The stylists there were so lazy and miserable and unfortunately they used that energy and lashed out at me. Even after I finally mustered up the courage to leave, I had to sit through a lecture from the owner basically telling me how much of a mistake I was making by leaving the salon and how I was never going to learn anything like what they were "planning on teaching me" even though I had been there for three month by then and hadn't been given any opportunity to learn anything, only told me to clean and answer phones.
    I was and have been so intimidated to go to any other salon because I was scarred by my horrendous experience there. I currently work at a salon job that I am so unhappy with, and this video really opened my eyes and helped me realize that I've been holding myself back out of fear. You have inspired me to go look for a salon that will showcase my full potential and help me fall in love with this industry once again. I appreciate all your advice and I'm so happy you found a salon you can feel comfortable in and call your home.

      Thank you! I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, it seems like there are way too many crappy salons out there... but don't forget that there are tons of GREAT ones! You just have to have the courage to look! Good luck :)

    Starting at a new salon next week! Can’t wait I just spent a year and a half at another salon and it was making me hate this industry. Finally feel like I found a good fit!

    Love all your videos and this was extremely helpful! I graduate from cosmetology in 2 months I’m so nervous to work in an actual salon!! And I can’t believe it’s illegal to booth rent there! That’s what I plan on doing I live in North Caroline:)

    how long did it take you to become comfortable and confident? I've been an assistant for some time now and am working on building clients but i feel like it's taking forever to grow

      I just forced myself. And I really started feeling the most confident once I started at my current salon and started getting more education and more practice.

    I love color retouch just because it is so easy and makes me feel very confident about what i'm doing but I do see that after a while if you wanted to grow, how could you?

    Late comment.
    But I definitely know how you feel about falling out of love with your job.
    I moved where I am now about 4 years ago and have been through a few jobs. Due to harassment and bullying at one location & let go at a few because I was literally fresh out of college(I'm an aesthetician as well). The job I've been at now for almost 3 years, had hopes of doing an adult spa services, been pushed back so many times, I'm completely over it. The job overall is amazing. I work with kids and I LOVE it. But the pay and hours are really limited and I'm struggling and having my fiancé pay for all the big bills. I'm getting married next August and after that I'm going to take a few courses for a completely different job but it has amazing hours and pay. It does suck, but do whatever makes you money and makes you happy :)

    I love the makeup job you did in this video! 🥰🥰🥰 Also, out of curiosity, should I refrain from getting a balayage on hair colored with plant-based hair dye from heath stores? 🧐🧐🧐

      Thank you! It should be ok. Just make sure you tell the stylist exactly what you used... they might want to do a test strand first.

    This video was so helpful to me. I appreciate the tips. I found a salon to intern at but I figured I should probably look at more salons before I graduate. I was thinking of asking if I could shadow a few different stylists at various salons. Do you have any advice on that? Is that something that most stylist would be for or against? I would just like to sit and watch and take it all in. I don't want to be in anyone's way and I don't need to be paid but I'm not sure how to go about setting it up other than just finding salons and walking in and asking if they would allow it. 🤷

    • @styledbysamvay
      @styledbysamvay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the idea of finding a mentor to shadow and learn from. I think it depends though... some people could be really into it and happy to share their knowledge with you, but some people might not. But it doesn't hurt to ask!

    Idk if you talked about this part or if I missed it, but did you assist? I just got out of school and I'm wondering how long I should be assisting for or if I even need to assist?

    • @styledbysamvay
      @styledbysamvay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I did while I was still in beauty school for about 6 months, and I HIGHLY recommend it!!! You'll get great first hand experience and you may end up getting offered a chair wherever you assist, which makes finding a job after graduating so much easier.

    Hi Sam! 👋
    I had an idea for vid you can create 😏.. First most I'm really indecisive when it comes to getting my haircut 😂 Because... I don't know the shape of my face 😅 and Idk if a lot of women out there have this issue. But if you do.. Let's see if Sam can make a vid about "How to tell the shape of your face" Lol.. Idk let me know Sam ❤ also love this vid you made and I'd like grwn talk without the makeup it's a lil distracting 😂

    Oh your first boss at a salon was vegan. Well that makes sense why you turned her down. Guess malnutrition makes your creativity absolutely boring if you only do one or two styles. No blues, greens, vibrant reds? Hell no
