@@allanwoellner i think that is where apple motion comes in though. Using PM to set everything up and then animate and render in Motion.

We saw it, and we loved it! Since this update is all about video, it made sense to make some improvements to Motion support, too. And, since these updates are a bit more technical, we're super glad they didn't go unnoticed. :) Thanks!

There was so many times I just wanted to do or add a certain thing to a video but I had to use a couple of programs to do it and Pixalmator just streamlined a lot of workflow for me. You guys and gals are knocking it out of the park.Well done.
I have been very impressed with the hard work this team has put in to updating its software, adding features that made the difference for me as to whether I could use it for my "daily driver" for image editing. Doing things like adding Applescript support has been a huge benefit too.

Video editing in Pixelmator is such a great idea. The app needs some improvements to make it worthy though. But, I'm sure it's coming with the next updates.

Really interesting that you can mask text layers with video, this helps create awesome intros super-quick. The last example in your video (the one with 'thinking' text) initially looks like a fairly involved production, never thought it could be done so easily with just 3 layers in Pixelmator.

@@PixelmatorVideos Would love to see text centring/alignment improved as sometimes it gives me multiple options for what is the actual centre (or it may be me just being thick..) and also text sharpening on exported files (for making youtube banners etc...) Again I know there is an align-to-pixel tool for doing this, but I'm not sure how to use it so maybe a demo vid in the future would be helpful - would be cool if you added animation features to the new vid editing ( but may be this is already in the pipeline 🙂) either way love the app and recommend it to others!

That looks awesome! I love editing videos but there are situations where a full fledged video editor might be overkill and less convenient than having video editing features built-in an image editor, it makes sense!
I've been using Pixelmator Pro for a while now and enjoying it a lot on my MacBook Pro. I wonder if you'll ever consider releasing it on Linux, I'd buy another copy immediately for my desktop. And so many others would

using the update and one questions/suggestion:
there should be a time counter available below the video at all times, with the ability to scrub and see 00:00:00. Having to go to that tiny menu in the minimal toolbar below the viewer makes scrubbing, trimming, and general editing nearly impossible with precision.
Can you either show how this is possible, or update with an always-visible scrubber/trimmer?
Otherwise, amazing update and bravo for your visionary direction.

Curious what that ‘Add Effects’ button offers and also how did you get Text behind her?
Is there a way to put multiple clips next to each other like in a timeline - it seems currently all clips play at once
I have read about this software, does it offer to combine multiple videos on timeline or just for editing individual video clips?
Can this be used to make a story/reel from photographs for instagram? (thus "playing" each photo for say 5 secs)
add the ability to animate also the assets and you have a tiny adobe after effects / apple motion clone

how do you edit for just a portion of the video? example : i need to edit from 0:05 until 0:10 . From this video, it seems like you can only edit the whole video
Can we add layers to appear in the video at specific timelines, just like in standard video editing?? oh and GIF export?
Not at this time, but that's certainly something we can look into in the future. 🙏
@@PixelmatorVideos even if is not typical video layer editing. An option in the static element/object to anchor it to video_object with suboptions like on_start on_end or at_time of the bideo_object. that could be a way to tackle without going advanced stuff like in motion.

I would love to start an animation/movie from scratch in Pixelmator Pro - utilizing still images and be able to manipulate them with effects and color filters etc, please add this feature !!
The timeline feature is not likely to come to Pixelmator Pro, as it stands. We see it as more or a feature you'd expect to find in animation or video editing apps. Pixelmator Pro, in the meantime, is still very much an image editor, so we won't be expanding on the video capabilities a lot and our focus will remain on image editing, primarily.
No need to import movies to Photos Library or iMovie to simply trim and crop a video anymore, sweet!
I wonder what are the supported codecs though. Maybe the same as the original imported file? i.e H.264/H.265 in a .mov/.m4v/.mp4 containers
Right! That is how I've been doing it before.
Pixelmator Pro supports H.264, HEVC, HEVC with Alpha, and most Apple ProRes codecs when exporting to QuickTime Movie format. For MP4, we only use H.264, if I remember correctly.

I am having trouble using the bandaid tool to get rid of some text on an object in a video, any suggestions? nothing seems to work
The Repair tool is great for photos but isn't designed to work with videos. To remove text from a video, you'd need to edit each frame one by one. If the text you're attempting to remove is static and doesn't move, you could try using masks to hide it throughout the video.
I thought was gimmicky but it actually looks kinda cool
One more thing; vector animation (lottie) with export to .json ?

@@Veel1 nice. Might have to try it out. Though count me as another vote for key frames.
@@Veel1 I just tried it out and not only can it apply LUTs, you can create them too! I've been trying it out for a fast way of getting color settings for my Final Cut Pro videos, by color correcting S-Log3 or HLG clips in Pixelmator, exporting a LUT and applying that as a custom LUT from Final Cut.
This is so incredibly helpful. Final Cut's color system needs a complete overhaul, frankly, but my new Pixelmater workflow gets great looking color in FCP with sooo much less fuss.
After looking, I can do the same thing in Photoshop, which has even more tools for color grading. But Pixelmater is a lot easier.
I trimmed the video and saved it and exported it and it wasn't trimmed. Still the original length. Frrt. Can't add captions either.
Hm... This sounds like a potential bug. We haven't been able to easily reproduce the issue. If you haven't done so already, could you email us at support@pixelmator.com about this with some steps to reproduce the issue? Thanks in advance!

Its a pity you cant modify the speed of a video. It would have been perfect for my stock footage workflow.
