idk why but your hurricane recording from 2009 kinda freaked me out as a child, and still gives me the creeps occasionally. Even though i have since grown to accept the hurricane and had gotten a proper understanding of sirens, that video still somehow makes the Milwaukee siren look scary at times.

@SoutheastCaliforniaSirens2006 I vibe that. A big reason I got into sirens is because they were scary when I was a kid. Apart from the sound itself, something about the way my parents and other adults took them seriously made a big impact on me as well. I grew up around Allertors and P-50s, but I still think the Hurricane is one of the spookiest sounding sirens around.

same here. I get what you mean. I may have had a different view of scary than you did. What I meant was the shape of the horn kind of induced a certain anxiety, and the lighting and camera shot angle also was a contributing factor... not to mention the audio distortion. I eventually researched the hurricane to get used to the unsettling look but even in spite of that, i kinda get chills seeing that particular recording.

@SoutheastCaliforniaSirens2006 I think I understand you better now. I guess I was thinking more in general terms, but you're specifically talking about that video. To me, sirens look almost alive and have sort of aggressive, vaguely threatening shapes to them. Couple that with the creepy sound and the danger that hearing them represents, and they've got a presence, a vibe that is definitely scary in a unique way. Hurricanes hit especially hard on those notes. The old, lower quality videos add sort of a liminal, analog horror feel, also.
Sirens aren't just an interest for me - they're kind of a psychologically rooted fascination as well. I'm glad my video made an impact on you, hopefully not an entirely negative one. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I find this stuff really fun to discuss.

Sick video! Also video idea: you should recreate the ACA Hurricane video at the same angle as last time!

"committed mischief around Wisconsins beautiful dams and railroad bridges." Geez, how much mischief do you guys do!? Anyways, not gonna lie, it ain't everyday you see a FS siren controlled by a ACA and ASC boxes. You can tell they are mixing and matching their equipment here. Nice video and siren!

Thats the most ACA-Sounding FS siren I've heard lol.

The thing I noticed about ACA vs FS 9/12 sirens is that, FS's 9/12s sound more deeper in tone whereas ACA's is more scratchy or loud or lack of a better word

The reason is due to how the choppers are designed. On Federal's sirens, there are 3 long vanes that drive air equally through both rows of ports, along with long vanes on the 9 port side that make the 9 port sound dominant over the 12. ACA's 9/12 choppers have long vanes on the 12 port side only, making the 12 port dominant.

@ArxCyberwolfPC Ah interesting. I always thought it was due to the design of the stator. The FS stator ports are straight whereas the ACA stator ports are curved quite a bit to better direct the airflow
