“The Serpent Queen” tells the story of Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton) who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history. Catherine’s tale unfolds through flashbacks as she defends her actions and imparts the lessons she’s learned to her new servant girl, Rahima (Sennia Nanua). At 14, the young, orphaned Catherine (Liv Hill) marries into the 16th-century French court. Despite her commoner status, her uncle Pope Clement (Charles Dance), has negotiated a large dowry and a geopolitical alliance in return for the union, and with it comes the expectation of many heirs. However, on her wedding night, Catherine learns that her new husband is in love with Diane de Poitiers (Ludivine Sagnier), a beautiful lady-in-waiting twice his age. With her future suddenly uncertain and with little hope of conceiving, Catherine must quickly learn who she can trust - both within her personal entourage of courtiers and the members of the royal court - while outmaneuvering anyone who underestimates her determination to survive at any cost.

This tailor is foreshadowing the French Revolution. And I totally agree with him on Diane's shameless behavior. If I was there in the coronation and see the king wearing his mistress' colors and her standing by him as if she was the queen I would laugh all day and I would score Catherine a hundred while Henry a big zero.
Finally someone put Diane in her place. I mean she stoody by Henry during coronation as Catherine was also crowned queen with Henry. It does seemed concerning for everyone that a mistress is shown everywhere and that was a problem. That is why Diane had enemies in court.
Diane just took it too far. Even Madame de Pompadour showed more decorum...
@@ThePharaoho I agree. But that is why Diane was too cocky because she didn't think that after Henry II died, everything would change from bad to worse, and Catherine took an act of bitter revenge by making sure Diane would not see him and be banished from court forever.
@@jazminmuro9692 Well, it seems like Diane played herself then. Surely she didn't think she could play a part as a power player at court without Henry. Catherine had 4 sons, her place as Queen Mother and possible regent was secured. Didn't Diane move into the Chaumont or d'Anet chateau? That was nice of Catherine.
@@ThePharaoho Yes, but that was actually Henry II's idea to gifted his mistress to live there with enough money to live off on. Catherine allowed her to live there because she didn't want her at court.
@@jazminmuro9692 She could've been more brutal to Diane. This by itself shows that Catherine was no where near the spiteful tyrant she was portrayed to have been, as Diane was quite disrespectful toward her while Henry lived.

It's so cute that she thinks that she knew what the former king would think. Ironically I do believe he would have sided with the tailer, if only to rankle Diane further and to undermine her and remind her of HER position. Just because was chosen by "God" doesn't make her part of the royal family. But that was a good foreshadowing of the revolution to come, she got away lucky that she didn't have to go through what du Barry goes through when that time does come.
Diane and Catherine always stood by Henry. This man did put her in her place.
I love her character. She's fantastic.

Why do they all have an American accent?
Some have an American accent, some have an English accent, and for some reason only Diane sounds french. It's all over the place.

UK accent is funny in this case. They are supposed to be French.
@@asiasmith6294 Yeah but Catherine should have an Italian accent as a teen and a french accent as an adult and everyone else should have a french accent. It's strange that Diane is the only one who sounds like she is actually a member of french nobility.
