    'how to keep altums'
Also this guy: keeps altums in 50 gallons...
I doubt you have ever seen fully grown P. Altum.
Your tank should have a height of atleast 60cm minimum... 70cm+ is good tho... I had 6 atabapo altums with 38-40cm heights...
You should really get a new tank or atleast give your altums to someone who knows how to keep them.

  • @johnbrand1893

I read it’s a lot easier keeping tank raised F1 Altums than wild, so that’s a big plus in attempting to keep them healthy for sure. 👍

Wild caught Altums are not too bad as long as you don't buy them really small, I kept them in normal dechlorinated tap water with a ph of 7.0 from day 1 of getting them and kept them for many years without any problems

I plan on getting a monster tank and get some wilds from Gabe Posada. I hear Altums won't breed in anything lower than a 5? Is this only for wilds or these tank bred too?

Good luck with Wattley/Gabe Posada's Altums. I bought ten. One was laying on its side and died the next day. The day after they arrived they started showing signs of fin rot. Treated them daily with prescription antibiotics and did water changes daily. Lost seven. Gabe offered no compensation or solution. If you do research on Gabe, when he does ship out diseased or sick fish, his reviews are a nightmare. He could care less about customer service.

I have a 240g with a nice pair of Scalares. The male especially has great 4 black bar color all the time. The female is not so steady with the deep black. How do Altums get along with Scalares?... I would would worry those filaments on the fins would be nipped by the dozen or so Rainbowfish or worse the tetras like Columbian and Bleeding Hearts I have in the aquarium.

Beautiful fish and beautiful tank but there is a drawback to buying tank raised altums. And that is that they are all (most probably) brothers and sisters. With a fish as finnicky as altums, that's a concern when it comes to breeding them. If you aren't trying to do that, then it's no problem. I've had lots of times when brothers and sisters of certain species were reluctant to breed with one another.
