Thank you for explaining this so clearly. My brother-in-law had a stroke, and Homonymous hemianopia is the term they just used to explain his vision problem.

Interesting, it goes a long way towards explaining why I am totally blind in both eyes on my right hand side the hospital said I had a stroke but there were no other symptoms and it happened while I was asleep. Kinda scary to wake up to find half the world is no longer there!!! Still not used to things and people suddenly appearing and disapearing as they move out of my half world view It also means a ban on driving so a total upheaval of a persons whole way of life, after 6 months I am still adjusting to it mentally.
thanks. I had a c5-7 laminectomy 1 year ago. a clot moved and took out much of my right occipital lobe, leaving me with hemianopia. the last mri is very revealing of exactly where. I retain ability to recognize objects and faces, but large portion of my right occipital is gone. my right side of pupils sees enough peripheral to function. it's not just black to left. though tests show I don't respond to left stimuli. if my case can help others, I can give access to a pre-stroke mri and post stroke mri for comparison. the 1 year after stroke is kinda scary.
The whiteboard diagram is a little off because the left half is connected to the right brain and vice versa.. You have the blue left connected to the left brain.. Still makes sense but in general this is incorrect.. I have left homonymous hemianopia and my right brain is damaged..

I lost my right field of vision from both eyes from a head on car crash August 29th 1987. I would love to have it back!!
