    The front 2 pockets are 82mm across, if you cut a slot that's 82mm long in a piece of paper, whatever fits through there without ripping the paper, will fit into these front pockets. Matthew Klees Thanks man!! I just added the apex, another stryke and Khakis to my collection. Went to the store and tried the 31 waist, so nice, perfect fit. Sometimes 30 or 32 is just too tight or loose. Glad they have the in between size too! Glad you like your 5.11 stuff! I got a couple shirts too! They're awesome too. Enjoy! Thanks for the sub!

      I normally review other things, but for some reason just wanted to do these pants cuz they are awesome. When I find good products I want to share it, in hopes that others can enjoy them too. If I can make others' lives better, I'm happy!
      I'm still using the Stryke pants all the time, I bought a second pair of beige ones, so switch between these black ones and those new ones. Great pants, give them a try, I think you'll like em!
      Definitely find a store to try them all on and get the one that fits like a glove, you'll like them as much as I do I bet!

      These are awesome.
      They'll let you do anything, best of all, they're flexible and comfortable as hell.
      Definitely give them a shot. I've only ever purchased one pair, but they are my go to pants, and still chugging along. I plan to upgrade to maybe the khakis, or covert cargo, but we'll see.

      Ya these will be perfect for climbing in and out of cars. I use these to work on my car and the time, great for getting into tight places. If you got a 5.11 store near you, definitely head in and try them all on until you find the perfect fit. Also look at the Apex pants, they are a little lighter than Stryke. Try both. You can order from Amazon, but it's better to try on the different types and sizes at the store. Good luck!

    Outstanding pants and review. They look like the perfect pants. I had no idea and I've been wearing 5.11 for a few years. Former LEO and present Security. THANKS!

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the positive comment!
      They really are the perfect pants. I've had mine since about 2012 and they're still pretty good. They've got some wear from regular use, but still in good/fair condition I'd say. The corners get frayed, as with any fabric, but I'd say it's more durable than other similar fabrics. For my new pants, I've been turning them inside out in the wash and dryer, I think this will help reduce wear and increase lifetime of them.
      I've also got the Apex pants, which is actually the previous generation of tactical pants. The Stryke are the new and improved Apex, but I like the Apex since they're more slick looking than the Stryke, for those days when you just want to be in the city, and want Cargo pants without the Cargo look. They aren't as functional as the Stryke, but are more stylish in my opinion. The velcro make the Stryke faster and better for 1 handed operation of the pockets, but the zippers make the Apex pockets more stylish. The Stryke have 2 nice pockets in the front which are good for flashlights, knives, or battery packs, the Apex are missing that. I think you'll be happy with the Stryke, but definitely consider the other pants from 5.11. I also have the Covert Khakis, they're pretty nice if that's the look you're going for, but still want large storage like Cargo pants.
      I highly recommend going to a 5.11 store and trying all the sizes until you find the one that fits, each style is different, and you'll find yourself going with different sizes in each style. I got 32 in the Strike, and 31.5 in the Apex, that worked out the best for me. It's nice they have the half sizes cuz it really makes them fit like a glove, and that makes all the difference. Trying to size yourself up and ordering online would be very difficult I believe, cuz you need to try on many sizes to get that perfect fit, I spent about 2 hours in the 5.11 store last time trying them all out until I got that awesome fit.
      Enjoy and stay safe!
      Cheers,
      David.

      Yeah, I started out wearing the Original Tactical Style# 74251, but hated the way my wallet hung so low in the back pocket. I switched to the TDU Style# 74003, because I like the magazine pockets inside the cargo pocket, which I use for Sabre OC spray, Sabre stun flashlight, knife and phone. Very convenient! However, the snap comes undone quite a bit in tense situations and they pull down at the knees when you squat or bend to get into a vehicle.
      I'm loving every aspect of the Stryke pants, because they seem to hit all the marks and add better quality in certain areas. Looking forward to upgrading. I keep reading that they do get a white tint after awhile on the darker colors, so I'm wondering if washing them inside out would alleviate that.

    This was such an awesome review! Thank you... and your splits and jumps with those loaded pockets!!! After seeing your review, I actually got these pants right now in 32-32 (I am a 6-foot woman) because I like this loose/baggy style. I was not sure whether to choose men's pants, or women's pants, or men's pants... was going back and forth. You convinced me and I just got these. Now I am going to go and work on my splits ;)

    • @DavidSunshine

      Thank you Suzanna! Glad you enjoyed it!
      I'm still using these pants today! They are great pants, and really comfy. Still maintaining their stretch ability and comfy like day one.
      I went to a 5.11 store in Hawaii when I was visiting the island and got to try on all the pants, if you can get to a 5.11 store I recommend doing that, then you can try on all styles and sizes and pick one that fits like a glove! If you don't want as many pockets, and a slimmer look, check out the Apex pants, they are great if you don't need all the capacity of the Stryke pants. I'd say they are a good sleek alternative. They don't look like cargo pants, slimmer pockets for a more casual outfit.
      Hope you enjoy your pair for years to come too!
      Cheers!
      David.

      Thanks man! Ya these are awesome pants eh? That's why I had to make a video of them, if anyone is thinking of them, I wanted to show them how comfortable and useful they are. I use them to go camping, and even travelling, went to Germany, England, France, Paris, those places are notorious for pick pocketers, the loud Velcro is a theft deterrent even lol. It's like walking around in sweat pants too, without actually looking like a douche in sweat pants!

      william felipe delgado castro Ya man! It's 2017 Feb, so 2 years later and I'm still using the same pair, 4 years now and I haven't managed to break them, year them, or wear them out washing them. I don't use them for work, just as a civilian, but even the local authorities use them as standard issue pants so you know they are good!! Don't get the cheaper alternatives, why bother? These are the best, and worth every penny in my opinion.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup!! Exactly the way I felt when I bought my first pair of 5.11 pants.
      The Stryke were actually my 3rd paid, and is currently my favourite. Their previous cotton pants aren't stretchy, so aren't as comfortable. Can't beat the Stryke tho! So many pockets, and the front two are perfect for flashlights, sanitizer, or folding knife. These pants can't get any better.

    I think I got lucky with the sizing. I'm like a 32.5 waist, and the size 32 fits nicely, snug but not too snug, so it's like custom made Stryke pants. If you're in a store with the different sizes, try a size smaller than you normally do, the waist is elastic like sweat pants so it won't be too tight, but it'll be like a "fitted suit", nothing like a custom suit! I agree with you, if clothing is baggy, it's comfortable but looks not so good. lol

    Would they be bad in hot and humid weather? Like 90 degrees humid? Or is there some ventilation?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, no, these would not be good in humid and hot weather, for that you'd want to go with shorts.
      If you are bush whacking and need protection for your legs, then the Stryke pants would be great, I would choose the lightest color if you want to stay cooler in the sun, black gets really hot under direct sunlight, but the light will get dirty quickly, so there's compromise there.
      I go camping with these in the summer, because if I had shorts, mosquitoes and branches would destroy my legs, and they are way better than jeans, or the older 5.11 cotton tactical pants(those got REALLY hot, sticky and wouldn't stretch). In comparison to other pants out there, I would suggest these for hot humid weather, because when your legs sweat, and the fabric sticks to your legs, and the stretchy nature of the fabric actually allows you to remain fairly nimble, and bend down like I was doing in this video, jumping over and climbing over logs, all the things you do when out in the bush.
      I am rough on my pants, and rip and destroy everything, but this first pair of pants is still holding up, and I'm still wearing them to this day, I think I must have used them between 2012-2017 now. The corners and stuff are starting to wear, but very minor and not noticeable unless you take a real close look at them.
      Hope that helps!
      Cheers,
      David.

      RizetoPower Thanks for the suggestion, I certainly will. I'm still very happy with the Stryke, so I haven't gotten a new pair yet, but I'm thinking of getting either the Apex or Covert Khaki next, but I'll test them all out and see what looks best, feels best, and functions best. The black is nice because it's low maintenance though, very forgiving if you need to change a flat tire or something, and get a little dirty. Khakis would suck if they get stained.

    Nice review, how do they hold up after a few washes, does the black fade??

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! They hold up very well! I have had them for about 5 years and still use them! They are a little worn in the corners of the cargo pockets, but nothing too bad. Still ok for a weekend outing. The color has not faded in the fabric. If you wash it inside out, I think that'll keep the corners from wearing out over the years.
      I would buy these again, and have actually purchased beige coloured stryke pants, I'll wash those inside out to keep them new.
      You can check out the color fade here: th-cam.com/video/xpfX2joZPkE/w-d-xo.html

    do you have any other 5.11 pants. Any idea which ones are slimmest? I can't stand baggy pants and I'm having trouble finding the slimmest "tactical" pants possible

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scr1be Hi, I had their older tactical pants, and now the Stryke with the Flextac fabric, the flexible fabric really changed the game and made them very nimble. I've tried their slimmer pants, the best one is the Apex, but it costs the most since it looks the best(in my opinion). I've been eyeing them up, and they're definitely the better looking pant of the collection, but they lack the storage and pockets(which makes them look so much more streamlined. You can check out the covert cargo pants if you want storage, and still want a cleaner look, but the Apex definitely looks slimmer than the covert cargo. I guess it depends what you're after. I'll probably pick up the Apex next, and just carry less stuff.

    Would you consider these good for industrial hot work like welding or grinding?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, quick answer, is no, I don't think so.
      The reason I say this, is because a lot of employers actually require that you wear cotton, and nothing polyester or similar, such as spandex(elastic/rubber fibers), when doing hot work, welding, electrician work, or similar. If something catches fire and you're burnt, polyester will stick to your flesh, and it'll be a lot worse than if you had worn 100% cotton, so for any hot work, they require you wear cotton underwear and clothing, even a polyester bandanna is a bad idea. It may be hotter to wear cotton, but you'll be thankful if you're flashed or burnt.
      I wore the 5.11 tactical pant for a long time, which uses 100% cotton canvas, it's thick, and was hot, but was still my preferred pant above khakis or jeans. It's still available, if that's what you're looking for: www.511tactical.com/511-tactical-pants-mens-cotton.html
      The 5.11 Stryke pants are now my favourite of course, since the fabric is thinner, cooler, and stretchy, as you can see, it allows increased flexibility. It's 35% cotton, 65% polyester(part spandex). But I wouldn't use it for hot work, even if I were allowed. However, I always use it when working on my car, since kneeling and getting into tight spaces is always required. If you're sweating, the flexibility is still maintained, as opposed to cotton, which will make it very hard to kneel down, since the fabric gets stick on your skin and doesn't stretch at all.
      Hope that helps!
      Best regards,
      David.

      Ya, the Stryke pants are awesome, my #1 pants that I wear. I recommend going to the 5.11 store, or a tactical store that carries them, you've gotta try them on to make sure they fit perfectly.
      If you MUST order them online, you can get them from various amazon vendors. Here's my amazon affiliate link to a 5.11 amazon vendor with all sorts of sizes: goo.gl/ejL6iw
      I take them to the range and they're great, I've got a 1.5" belt that fits perfectly in these, and it holds holsters very well, keeps them in place. I don't use the pockets for mags, but you can put 2 pistol mags in the front pockets and apparently AR mags in the cargo pockets, 2 each, there's a pouch inside to hold them in place.
      I've recently purchased the beige color Stryke pants, and like them. I tried on all the sizes and ended up getting varying sizes between the different lines of pants, so I definitely recommend trying them on before buying. Avoid ordering online at all costs, since you could end up with a pair that's too small or too big.
      Good luck! I think you'll like these pants tho.
      Who knew you could talk so much about pants, but when you're out and about, you gotta wear pants, so it's something important that is worth putting some money into, and these are the best money can buy in my opinion.
      I also have the 5.11 Apex pants, which are a little more laid back, but still pretty awesome, they're the older version of the Stryke pant, but more casual, yet still versatile. The Stryke are the newest design, and it's everything the Apex are, but improved and added on. The Stryke use velcro for the pockets, which I like for the 1 handed quick operation. The Apex use zippers, but it's a slower 2-handed operation, so kinda sucks, but is a cleaner look, and not loud like velcro.
      I recommend Stryke first, if you want a 2nd more relaxed pair, the Apex.
      Cheers!
      David.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the belt loops don't have velcro, they are fixed in the closed position so your belt will need to be small enough to feed though them, the belt I have is about as big as it can be, I'll measure the size of my belt and belt clip when I get home. Cheers.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThaFonz19
      Hi,
      I measured my utility belt, and it's 1.5", or 4cm tall, about 1/4" thick or 0.5cm thick. Your need to remove the buckle from the belt, so that you can feed the belt through the loops. It's too tight to feed the buckle through the loops.
      I tried pushing the buckle through, but it wouldn't go, the buckle is about 1-3/4" tall and 3/8" thick. So as long as your belt is 1.5", and 1/4" thick, it should be ok to feed through the loops.
      Cheers,
      David.

    What do you think?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That could be the case. I don't use them heavily so I don't have an issue with that. The first black pair, shown in this video, is still in use. The older cotton ones wore out quickly, but this flextac fabric has been much better. This black pair has some fraying on the corners of the cargo pockets, but nothing extreme. I would pay another $85 for a replacement pair. After 7 years of use, they are still in pretty good condition, and I'm fine with the wear rate. I have purchased a beige Stryke pants, apex, and khakis. I'm pretty happy with 5.11. you should go to the 5.11 store, or tactical store carrying them, and try them on. If they fit like a glove and are comfortable, it's worth the extra cost. If the competition feels the same, for cheaper, I would try them out. I'm guessing that either fabric will have similar wear rates. It's the comfort, fit, and performance that really should decide what you want to buy and use day to day.
      Hope that helps!

    hey mate. how do you think about the sizing? I'm wearing 36 for all 5.11 taclite pro pants. Recently I bought Stryke, I feel like 34 is better fit for me. for some reason I would like to try 36, so I returned the pants and take 36, but now I feel like 36 is too big. So I'm thinking of return this again and get the 34 back.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, yup all the sizes fit differently across all styles. I went into the 5.11 Hawaii store and tried on various sizes for the Stryke, apex pro, and khakis, I used different sizes for all of them!
      With that said, I think you could keep the 36 so that you have more roomy pants, good for extra mobility, then for the waist you can fold and sew the left and right sides to tighten the elastic waist(if you stretch the front out, you'll see the two waist straps that you can fold and sew tighter fit for the perfect customized waist size), that might make it fit your waist and legs better.
      If you want an overall tighter fit, you can go 34, but I personally don't like tight pants. I need some room for mobility cuz I go camping and work on my car in these, or hiking with lots of climbing, it's great because it provides protection and still allows me to be mobile.

      +Jay V Hey that's unfortunate. If there's a store you can go to, and try them on, that would be best, then you can try on the tightest waist that works for you, and then the pants legs should be tighter and look more fitted. I use tighter than actual so the elastic bands hold the waist tight, but not too tight, and it's a little more fitted that way. If you go tight, may work better for you. The 5.11 Apex are much more fitted than the Stryke, but cost way more too. The stryke are still full on cargo pants so well be a little baggy. If you're after a fitted look, the Apex are the way to go, I've tried them on but haven't pulled the trigger, but may do that soon, just so I have something to wear that's more casual but still has cargo pockets. I can't let the flextac go tho, I know that much, they give a lot of flexibility and comfort.

      Hi, I'm 5'9", 155lbs, with a 30" inseam, 32" waist.. I went to the 5.11 store in Hawaii and tried on all the sizes, the best one was 30x32. The waist is elastic, so the 30 is a good fit. For non elastic pants I use 31 or 32. I got their apex(31x32) and khakis(32x30), the sizes vary for the fit and comfort from style to style. You really need to go to the store and spend a few hours trying them all on if you want it to have that perfect "fit like a glove" fit. The sizes are all over the map, 30 length for the khakis fit well, and 32 for the apex and stryke, but you can't dispute with actual fit and how it looks in a mirror. I would highly recommend you go check it out in store, an inch variance makes a big difference. Each of these pants feels great, and they're all different sizes, so 1 size doesn't fit all. going to Hawaii any time soon? I got all 3 when I was there. There was a sale too, luckily; 5.11 cost a little more, but they are worth it in my opinion. I have 4 pairs now (2 x stryke, 1 x apex, 1 cover khakis) and like them all!
      Cheers!

    Nice review. Any water, wind resistance?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I'll post a video and link it to show the water resistant tonight. The teflon coating on them wears out after 3 washes, after that it's like any other cotton/polyester mixed fabric, it doesn't take on as much water as pure cotton, but since it's pretty thin it doesn't absorb so much that is heavy and uncomfortable. In a windy rainy day the bottom of the pants can get all wet, and it'll still feel fine walking around, unlike jeans which will feel heavy and limit motion since they won't stretch. They will also dry in about 20-30 minutes if it's not too humid inside. So no resistance to water but they aren't as bad as jeans. They are fine to use of you're a paramedic and need to work through the rain, and you can just run the heater in the vehicle and they'll dry off fine.
      It's a thin fabric but they do provide some insulation from the wind, probably similar to any other thin solid fabric, it is very tightly stitched fabric so wind doesn't flow through, so on as chilly day they do provide some protection from the elements. I still use these summer, rain and winter, without issues. I think they have the optimal all season fabric choice, not special to any one situation, but a good balance to all situations.
      You should try a pair out and you'll find that you like em so much you'll but a few more pairs in different colors.
      The big thing is to go into a 5.11 store or tactical store and try on the various sizes until you find the one that fits like a glove, while standing and sitting they should be tested to be comfortable. Once you find your size, you'll never want to take them off. I wear 30x32 in Stryke pants, and 31x32 for their apex pants. So one size doesn't work for every pant style, so don't just get the size that you normal wear, definitely try on a bigger and smaller than normal and see what fits best. Then try on a bigger and smaller from that so you know for sure it's the best fit. It's worth the trouble.
      And in their khakis I'm 32x30, so it's really different throughout. I basically tried on 3 of each, so 9 pants to figure out the right fit. Lol.
      If you want. You could probably spray them with a 3M coating for waterproofing fabrics, they already had the teflon coating so I think it's fairly compatible with it. If I were a paramedic working in a rainy place. I won't for sure do that.
      Hope that answers your question!
      Cheers,
      David.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I posted a quick video showing the water resistance of them at the start: th-cam.com/video/kDCYPy3wbso/w-d-xo.html
      I will do some additional testing and see if I can do a comparison. The Stryke pants have been work primarily for the last 4 years, so it'll be good to see how much it's worn. The Apex and Khakis have been worn less, so let's see how light wear can affect them.
      Cheers,

    How warm are they in freezing wet weather?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      Not very warm at all, they are pretty thin pants. It's just a thin layer of the Flextac fabric, it's pretty light, thin and flexible, so that you can use them while camping in the summer when it's not too hot out, otherwise you'll want to use shorts. But being that light, it's not great in cold weather. After a few washes, the spill resistance wears off as well, so they aren't even water resistant after a few washes. Brand new, they have a nice water repellent coating, but unless you buy new ones all the time, it's not useful.
      If you're just running between a car and a building in cold wet weather, I'd rather do it in these than other typical pants though, since they will dry off quickly and don't hold moisture like jeans or khakis(fabrics with a lot of cotton), so they'll be better in cold wet weather in terms of that.
      Like if I were doing telecom terminations on the sidewalk, then needed to run back into a building to set things up, these would be the pants I'd want to wear, they are good for that. But if it's really pouring down and cold, should throw on some rain gear.
      Hope that helps!
      Cheers,
      David.

    I just bought a pair in 30", rather than my usual 32" size, as suggested in many reviews. What I've found to my surprise, is that these pants are extremely uncomfortable.. Particularly when sitting, crouching, and particularly in the legs and mostly the crotch, they are very restrictive nowhere near the level of comfort I had expected. Waist and inseam seems fine.
    Do you think going a size up will fix this or is it the design of the pants?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I actually find that they are a "loose fit" compared to most of the other pants out there, and other pants actually are tight when sitting, I ball those pants "nut crackers", fitting cuz it's almost Christmas lol. Hope you got Prime, definitely return those pants, as you'll be sitting a lot and you can't be wearing any pants that are "nut crackers". I always recommend doing to a 5.11 store, or one with these in various sizes and styles, and trying them all on, while sitting, standing, hopping like in this video... I use different sizes in each style, Apex, Khakis, Stryke, 31, 32, 30, respectively, all fit me well. Isn't that wild? All over the chart, I had to check them to make sure, can't remember the sizing, but sure enough they are wildly different. Your pants need to fit like a glove, so nothing replaces going in, and trying on various sizes. I must have tried 3-4 sizes of each pant to get it right. Where is tight enough, but not cracking my nuts.
      Hope that helps!
      I think it's a bad move, but you could order a bunch of various sizes and see which one fits, then return it, if you can't go to a store. The environmental impact of shipping them to you might be less than you driving a long ways to a store. But if you are on vacation to Honolulu, there's a big 5.11 store there, I was there years ago and picked up all the pants I mentioned earlier.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,
      They are 35% cotton so they should shrink a bit, but I sized the pants in the store so that they fit correctly, and I haven't noticed any shrinkage. I sized them a little loose though, as that's the way I like them. I allowed enough space so that they provide freedom of movement, but the waist still fit correctly so that they stay in place. With the extra room for the freedom of movement, I must have not noticed the small amount of shrinkage.
      Did you have them perfectly tight fitting right from the get go?
      Cotton could shrink so I could see that being a problem. Thanks for the heads up though, other people will benefit from this knowledge!

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      allgoo19 Hi, I don't commute on bike, but for that you'd want something purpose built for sweating, protection from elements, or rain proof. With that said, the fabric of both Stryke and Apex are pretty nice for a cotton/polyester blend, it's thin/light and flexible, and on some occasions I could see them being a good pant to wear for cycling. You saw me do some flexibility testing, both feel great doing that level of bending. But the main purpose is for everyday wear in general conditions, good versatility for most things, lots of storage and functionality.
      They aren't that waterproof, so if you get caught in the rain that would suck.
      I'd say both feel good when sweating though, I wouldn't mind riding with them and sweating a bit, it'll wick and evaporate pretty quickly, I like that about them and it allows me to wear them while on vacation in hot places that become chilly at night (so you can't wear shorts). If you get a pair of Stryke or Apex pants, I'm sure you'll like them just as much as I do.
      The Apex are a little lighter actually, because there's no knee pads or front small pockets, so those might be better for light cycling than the Stryke. Try them both though, see what feels best to you.

      I already looked at bicycle specific pants, they are definitely not my taste, overly recreational ride oriented, either too colorful or too many accents that makes me embarrassed to wear. And not many pockets on top of that.
      And I'm not even talking about racing pants (generally called spandex) here.
      There are kind of pants made for the commuting, cost like $80.- and up, way over my budget and I don't even like their looks. I would say too dressy. Again, not enough pockets.

      allgoo19 You're welcome.
      Oh nice, ya I'm sure there are lots of options out there.
      These are definitely gonna be different than nylon or polyester pants, but if it doesn't rain much, these might work for you.
      You want a lot of pockets, the Stryke will definitely be a competitor in that department. But still check out the Apex to see if that's enough for you.
      With cotton, these will be more comfortable than other pants, but you'll need rain pants to put on top for those gloomy commutes.
      I've seen people use velcro reflective straps to keep the pant from hitting the chain, guess you could do that with these or roll them up.
      Khaki or beige color looks good in my opinion, check it out and see if that's what you like.

      David Sunshine says:
      "but you'll need rain pants to put on top for those gloomy commutes..."
      ==
      I have a pants made of the same material they use on so called "soft shell" jacket.
      It's suppose to be a wind proof, water proof, breathable and stretching material. Just once I rode a light rain after heavy rain. Not much water from above but the tire picked up a lot water from the puddle of water on the ground. My saddle happen to have a center cut out.
      Since my bicycle doesn't have fenders front and back, all the water the rear wheels picks up comes right at my butt, right on the seam of the pants.
      Guess what?
      My underwear got soaked in 5 minutes of ride.
      That's one reason to avoid wasting money on so called water proof anything.
      Another is the location of where I live which is So Cal. You won't mid getting wet because it's not that cold 8 months out of 12 months of the year.
      Another is the breathability of those material.
      It's only a matter of relative breathability.
      I have a rain parka I spent a fortune on made of GoreTex. Even though I kept it in my closet most of the time because we don't have many rainy days and since it's an expensive clothe, I'd hesitate to take it outside, but one of those occasions I wore outside, I get drenched from inside just by walking briskly. It's still better than wearing a rubber coated rain coat, mind you. But for the price I paid?
      I don't think it's worth it.
      Do you know how much sweat comes out of your body when you are riding bicycle?
      It's far more than the amount of sweat comes out than you are running but you just don't realize it because you are moving through the air much faster your sweat evaporate much quicker.
      If you ask me, those water proof of any kind are useless on bicycle.
      Have you seen a bicycle race in the rain? They use cheap vinyl jacket and throw it away on the road when the rain clears up.
      If those "breathable" jacket really work, they would be using it since they get those free from the maker for the advertisement purpose. The makers won't miss an promotional opportunity if their products really work.
      Did you know this?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      Ya, I've never purchased goretex, but I suspected as much, I never believed that it's "breathable" as they say, I've used them before, and I sweat a little, and it stays, it doesn't evaporate like in their cartoons. Lol.
      I can see that if you're exerting a lot of energy while riding, you'll get wet from the sweat pretty quick, I guess that's why you gotta shower when you get to your destination. Some work places provide showers/lockers just for that reason, so that's nice. If you don't have that though, it would make a bicycle commute tough, and people just can't do it.
      Sounds like good exercise though, commuting on a bike. Some people are going electric assist, I guess that'd be nice so you don't have to sweat so much. But then you lose the exercise aspect of it, and it's just like a motorcycle commute.
      I used to ride a motorcycle to work, and the rain gear kept me dry, but in the summer I sweat too much when I hit traffic jams, with all that gear on I soaked my cloths LOL, so I can see the problem there.
      I guess this is all the stuff bikers have to consider.
      Cheers!
      David.

      Unfortunately, I've gone to the store and the fit is different for all styles and shapes of people. I highly recommend going to a tactical store or 5.11 to try them on, one will fit like a glove and the next size up will be too big, so if you want the perfect fit, go try them out. You won't be disappointed! Ordering by size is almost impossible.
      Cheers,

    I'm a 34, and recently started carrying a gun. Would you recommend sticking with 34 or go with 36?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, thank you for the great question, I've got zero experience with CCW, but if it's an IWB holster I think it would be best to try it out in the store and see how it feels, otherwise there's no real way to tell if you'll like the tension on your waist, everyone will want something different, but you can always customize the elastic positions to customize the pants to your liking.
      The elastics of size 34 will already be stretched a bit to hold the pants snug on your waist, so an additional holster will make that even tighter.
      I put a Kydex Blade-Tech OWB holster inside my waist band(Without the belt mount), it's probably similar in size to an IWB, and it fits, with plenty of elastic range left, the tension on the waist is definitely greater than without, but this is good for holding the pistol in position while walking, or if you had to sprint. Moving up to 36 would be nice, but I'm afraid it may be too loose, and not help make the firearm snug against your waist. Depending on the weight of the firearm, you may want that extra tension that a 34 size provides. Worst case, you carry a CZ-75 Shadow, full metal frame pistol, you'll want the 34" for sure.
      If you use a polymer frame pistol, then you might be able to get away with the loose fit of a 36".
      It's hard to say if it'll work though, if you can, I would go into the store and try out the different pants in the change room, and see which one feels right for you.
      If ordering online is the only option, I would check the return policy, and may even order both, if return shipping is only $5, it might be worth trying both?
      In comparison, it's a little tight, but still more comfortable and more loose than my suit or any tux I've worn, so it would be fine for long term wearing. I'd be fine with this every day.
      You can also easily alter it in minutes to be a looser fit, since both elastics have so much range, you can pull each one out about 0.5" and sew it in place, that would make a custom 35" waist. This is what I would do if I were to use an IWB holster with a polyer framed pistol.
      The elastics on the left and right provide a huge range for the waist, and you can see how much stretch it has at this part of the video: th-cam.com/video/_BAK6hrlDTk/w-d-xo.htmlm7s
      This is what allows you to use 34 with your IWB holster with flexibility for adjustments. The 36 may be too loose, but you'd have to try to be certain.
      Hope that helps!
      Cheers,
      David.

    What is sizing like bro? Are they true to size or should I order 1size smaller cos they stretch

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They stretch a little. I've worn 32 waist pants for jeans and other pants, but I got the 30 for the Stryke pants, and the 31 for the Apex. I was in the store, trying on different styles and sizes, and they're all different across the different models of pants. One size that fits in one style will be too small or big in another style, so I highly recommend going into a store and trying them out, if you want a perfect fit, if you want it to fit like a glove.
      If you don't have that option, your regular size would be the safe bet. If you're a 32, the 32 would be kinda loose, but that's better than finding out the 30 is way too small for you, so I would stick with your size rather than go smaller. But if 32 fits and is on the loose side for you, a 30 may work, like in my case.
      I don't know if the other sizes will have a similar trend though, so I would be safe and just choose the size that you're used to wearing. You could also modify the elastic by sewing it tighter, to give a tighter fit if you really needed. Each side has an elastic, and you could pull that tighter a bit, and sew it into place. Any shop that hems pants should be able to help you with that if you want to use a sewing machine for a strong hold.
      Cheers!
      David.

    How's the shrinkage post wash?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      I didn't notice any shrinkage actually. I tried them all on at the store, been washing and drying them on high heat, and they all still fit like day 1 at the store. All models haven't gotten any tighter, Apex, Stryke and Covert Khakis. I think most manufacturers pre-shrink, so I think they've done that as well.
      I think they are 67% polyester and 33% cotton, so they aren't that prone to shrinking. There's a size difference between models, so keep that in mind. Apex, I wear 31x32, but in Stryke I wear 30x32. So I recommend trying them on in store for the perfect fit.
      Hope that helps!
      Cheers!

    Can those front pockets fit 10-round 5.56 magpul pmags?

      +Don F Hi, sorry, I don't have any of those mags, but the inside pockets that are made for mags, are 85mm across, and the front pockets are 82mm across, so I would think that they would fit the same mag, the 3mm might not make a difference.
      If you want to test it out, cut an 82mm line into some fabric or paper(tape it so it doesn't tear), and then try to slide the mag through that opening, if it fits, then it will fit in the pocket, if not, these pants won't hold that, the pockets don't have much stretch to them even though the fabric in general does. @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      No, they're not meant to be waterproof, intially they have an oleo-phobic spray/coating on them, but that wears out after a couple washes, then it's like any other polyester/cotton blend fabric, not waterproof at all.
      The oleo-phobic coating is pretty cool intially though, and you can put the pants under running water without it getting wet, but that runs out in the first month or couple washes I'd say.
      Sorry, I don't know of any waterproof pants like these, if they could make them, that would be awesome tho.

      I seen how bright that one is and thought about telling him to get it.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damn, that's some serious situation for a good quality light, the Convoy L6 would definitely give him an advantage there, you can basically blind any wild animal and scare it(hopefully), but if it attacks, its stupid cuz it won't be able to see a single thing, you could easily defend yourself if you had a weapon. The SkyRay is similarly powerful as the L6, but it's not reliable, and not functional, gets hot and burns you, cuz it's so small. The L6 is big, and is like a mini baseball bat.
      Another recommendation, is to get a backup light, a cell phone works fine too, but the Convoy S2+(tidd.ly/6a7c45ee) or On the Road M3(tidd.ly/715582bd) are my backup lights to the Convoy L6(tidd.ly/7c8738fe). All the lights that I buy are from Gearbest now, they have good prices and good quality stuff, so far anyways.Just make sure you use only free shipping, otherwise you might pay DHL $24 for brokerage fees. I can link you batteries and chargers too, if you like, and my review videos if you're interested.

      Hi,
      The one shown in this video was a cheap no name brand I got from a street market, similar ones can be found here: tidd.ly/246ecbf2
      But I don't recommend those type of knives, they're not that well constructed, and are only good "cheap" knives that you don't mind losing or giving away.
      If you're looking for a decent knife, try out the Ganzo 7412, or something in that series (They use nylon washers instead of a thrust bearing though, this leads to the blade being a little looser).
      The JIN02 is very good, quality made, and uses thrust bearings to hold the blade solid, far superior to nylon washers: tidd.ly/6c71413a - I have this knife and it is my go to knife.
      Cheers!

    If these pants have teflon on it how come they look faded?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, the Teflon is great for the first couple weeks and couple washes, they repel water and stains like most water repellent coatings, but when it wears out, it's like any other polyester fabric. They actually aren't that worn out, I had lots of lights on and overexposed the video camera since the pants, floor, and wardrobe were so dark, if I didn't do that, the video wouldn't have been able to show the features such as the pockets or reinforced clip holders. These pants aren't looking bad for 3 years of constant use. They are actually my only pair that I use, except khakis and jeans which I wear on various occasions.

      Here's the new video that shows that the pants were not faded, it was just the camera's overexposure.:
      th-cam.com/video/xpfX2joZPkE/w-d-xo.html
      Teflon probably does release some chemicals in trace amounts that is bad for the health, but it's in such small amounts that a safety organization has yet to classify it as a toxin. It's most likely safe to use on clothing, since even toxic chemicals are considered safe to eat in breads, dempsters bread uses calcium propanoate in their breads to stop mold growth, and we eat that in every sandwich, even though organizations say its slightly toxic. I don't think we should worry about the Teflon coating on the pants, since its not going to readily absorb into our skin and affect our health.
      The pants are black so they will feel hot in the sun, but I've worn them all summer for the last 3 years and haven't switched to shorts yet. The flextac is half the weight(or less) of the previous cotton fabric used in their tactical pants, so it's actually a major improvement over normal pants that you could wear during the summers, while still being strong, protective, and comfortable. Lol I sound like a salesman for these pants, but I'm just speaking the truth. The reality of these pants just sells themselves. Like Nufinish, Microwaves, cell phones, and Michelin Pilot Sport AS tires, they are just things that once you discover, you wonder how you got on without them!

      haha thanks for your sacrafise. one thing im stuck on now is if i should get a slightly smaller waste size. i prefer slim fitted pants specially if they are stretchy. is 1.5 inch smaller going to be too much or does the waste band have a good amount of give?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Langlois The waist has a lot of give, 1.5 might be nice and slim fitting, but it's hard to say if that's too tight. I always recommend going into a store and trying them on. If there's no 5.11 store in your area, try out the tactical stores, they usually have all the sizes.
      The 5.11 store in Hawaii had 31.5 for the Apex style and that fit me perfectly! Different styles fit differently as well, so definitely try them all on until you get the right fit.
      Sizing is a tricky thing for clothing, you really gotta try it on to get that perfect fit.
      I'm sure there's a store with them for you to try "close" to home.
      If not, make a trip to Hawaii for vacation! Lol. I'll never say no to going there.

      Lol I like the way you put it, ya it's pretty ridiculous how much stuff you can fit in them. It's cuz of the stretchy fabric, with standard cargo pants the fabric is pretty limiting and uncomfortable. These pants are awesome to wear travelling, fixing the car, camping, during IPSC matches, basically anything! The two front small pockets are cool too, I always throw a flashlight or Swiss army knife in there, depending on where I'm going or what I'm fixing, or both!

      Hi, it's a 1.5" Rigid Utility Belt, I got it from a local tactical gear store called Dave's Tactical in New West.
      Something similar is shown here on Amazon.com: amzn.to/2ewrlH2
      The good thing about it, is that it has the soft velcro side on the inside, so when you put items on it, you can put velcro on those items, and it will hold it from sliding back and forth.
      Hope that helps!

      @Dantoro45 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      alright and how "hot" do you get in them because i live where its like 90 degrees out every day so i don't want a pant that is 2 hot

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know when you wear jeans in a hot environment and they get all sweaty and stuck to your legs? It feels uncomfortable cuz the jeans can't stretch, but these stretch and allow you to remain mobile even if it's hot and sweaty. I don't mind wearing them when it's hot, and was even hanging out in Singapore where it's pretty hot and sweaty there, but it's better to use shorts of course.
      The Stryke pants are pretty light pants, but the Khakis might be better since there's less fabric, I don't think it has the big cargo pockets or knee pad holders, might want to check out the Pro too and compare, if you're looking for the lightest pants for hot weather.
      I don't mind these though, it's way nicer than wearing normal jeans, I don't wear jeans anymore because I'm spoiled by these Stryke pants. Like I said, almost feels as comfortable as sweat pants LOL!

  • @defyzs7657
    @defyzs7657 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I disagree, I honestly prefer the VERTX Phantom LT 2.0s, they come a little stiff but after a wash and wearing a little they are incredibly soft and comfortable. They breathe well,pocket placement is well thought out, they come standard with articulated knees and a higher rise back, stretch waistband, fully gusseted crotch made from 6.5 ounce mini ripstop and have their patented "intellidry" system. Not to mention 20 dollars cheaper than a pair of strykes. To each their own but I find vertx pants to be superior in almost every way for less money. I've worn them same 4 pairs for 2+ years now and other than a small spot here and there they've held up like brand new, this includes frequent long range hikes, camping tactical shooting courses etc... just saying.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Rick! I'll check out the Phantom LT 2.0s, they look pretty slick, no cargo pocket flaps so that looks good. They don't have pockets up front for flashlights, knives, or sanitizer. I like the Stryke pants for those pockets more than the other pockets, so those are handy. But for those who don't need them, the Phantom do look better and if they cost less and are of the same quality, that's a great pair to buy!
      I'll down for a cheaper alternative to 5.11, they are kinda pricey!
      I'm still using this pair, and a 2nd beige colored pair, so they do last long, but they do have spots here or there that are showing fraying.
      The good thing about 5.11, is that you can try it on in most cities with stores that stock em, or even a 5.11 store, and you can find your perfect fit. I actually got 31.5 waist and it was perfect.
      If Phantom are stocked, I'll try them out for sure, they sound great!
      Thanks again for the heads up on them! I'll do a review on them if I get my hands on a pair!
      Cheers!

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh damn. You kinda want them to be fitted around your waist. Each brand has slightly different sizing, I guess these are bigger than what you're used to.
      The waist has elastics on either side, it's difficulty to adjust those, but if you can, maybe you can tighten it up.
      Or return them and order a smaller size.
      If you can go into the store, definitely do that, then you can find the exact size that fits perfectly and feels great, I highly recommend that. Lots of tactical shops carry an the sizes, or a 5.11 shop if you are close enough to one. I went to Hawaii for vacation and went to their 5.11 store and got a bunch of pants, each style actually had a different size that I used, so definitely try them all on, don't order the same size across all style types. Cuz for different style pants, you'll want a different fit.
      Good luck!

    FYI I just picked up a pair of these stryke pants and the fit is the same old baggy 5.11. I wouldnt recommend these, especially given the price. Maybe for larger guys they fit better but I am a 30/30 and these are so baggy and out of proportion like all the other 5.11's Ive worn. Not sure where people are getting the "slimmer fit" idea from. The waste fits fine but its almost as if they just take the legs from a larger pant and cut them shorter and stick them on. No taper at all, the leg opening looks as wide as the top of the leg and it just looks stupid. If anything its worse than other 5.11's as there is no sinch string at the leg opening so you are stuck with the super wide opening. Waste of money. Funny how some clothing companies cant seem to figure out that if you have a smaller waste and shorter legs then you probably need slimmer pant legs too.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David. That's strange. Maybe I got a size smaller, so they're snug and seem to fit perfectly with the elastic holding my waist with just enough force. I don't wear these with a belt unless I have accessories to carry. Thanks for reporting back though.
      I think for clothes, it's best to go in store and purchase them after trying them on, once you know the size then you could probably purchase it online.
      These are still my go to pants, and they are wearing down, but not enough to not buy them again, I've gotten many years out of them and they feel great still. I didn't post this review until a couple years after I've put them through the paces.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Takashi Tamanaha You're welcome. Oh cool, I didn't know they made them. I wonder if they are any good, if I made some, I would use silicone rubber, thin layers, so when the magnets come together, it isn't loud, and it sticks well, with good shear holding friction. I would also make the side that is towards the leg out of ferrous metal, not a magnet, only the outside needs to be a magnet, then the person wearing it won't be exposed to the magnetic field, which could cause health affects, or may not do anything at all, but it would be better to reduce it since we don't know definitively.
      That's my take on it.
      Maybe I'll convert my pair to magnetic closers instead of velcro, might be fun to do.

    I have TWO big issues with these pants. I'm 5.9, 205lbs, about 15%BF, 32 waist, 32 inseam. The measurement from the crotch to the waist is HUGE and may fit for a taller person, but short guys like me will end up looking like Martin Short as Ed Grimly(google that if you don't know him). So the waist sits WAY UP over your actual waist, or with it in the CORRECT place, your crotch will hang down like Justin Beiber. Second problem........the pant legs at your foot are HUGE! Literally look like bellbottoms, even though they are straight all the way up, the pants have no taper and the swallow your foot in appearance. For me personally, that's way to much $ for such a crappy fit.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      C Collins Ya, these pants fit me well and I'm the same height, but being a perfect fit for me, I can see them requiring alterations for someone who's a different size. At this price you'll want them to fit perfectly without alterations, so they should make a few different sizes with different inseam and leg circumference measurements. It's too bad they can't take custom measurements and make the pants custom for people, I think that would be awesome!
      But for the price, maybe you buy the pants and have them altered for $20 to fit, that wouldn't be too bad either.
      If not, I guess other brands may be a better fit.
      For me these pants fit like a glove tho!
      If you find a model that fits, please let us know, I'm sure others who are a similar fit would appreciate that.
      Thanks for the feedback!

    They are actually crap. Comfortable for sure but not durable and get destroyed by getting caught on lightest branches and brush. Stitching gets pulled very easily and don't even try wearing them if your in area where things get bleached lol. If your sitting down in car or chair good luck getting the phone our of the front pockets or putting it back in them gonna have to stretch or roll or stand up from your car seat while pressing on a break or keeping steady gas while driving lol. Pockets are way to high but having phone in them is quiet comfy as well, don't poke you in any way. Older 5.11 taclite pro are much better quality and can take abuse.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      spoke1183 Hi, I agree with you, the Flextac fabric is a little lighter and thinner than the taclite pro ripstop fabric, so it'll be more prone to catching and ripping than the taclite pros, but I haven't had an issue with it, and that's from normal camping. If you're hiking through thick bushes with lots of thorns and twigs, then I agree, a heavier fabric would be better to resist catching and ripping. I used the older taclite pros for years, and they were very durable, but the heavier non-stretch fabric made wearing them a lot less comfortable, and as soon as I got sweaty, they would get stuck to my knees and crowching down was restricted, that's where the thinner flextac fabric shines, and I'd prefer wearing flextac over the tactlite pro fabric due to that.
      Since they flex, I don't find taking a phone out of the pockets while driving that difficult, it is way harder with the older taclite pros, those pockets are way higher, have a smaller opening, and don't flex at all. I go back to the taclite pros when I wash my Strykes, and I always get a reminder why I upgraded, can't wait to get back into them each time.
      I don't think any pants are resistant to chemicals, they will both get destroyed around harsh chemicals, in those cases you'll probably want to wear some sort of plastic coveralls.
      Which pants are you wearing now to replace the Stryke pants?
      I still haven't found anything better. I might try the Covert or Apex next.
      Cheers,
      David.
