- AHHHHH!!!!! We did it!!! We are officially New Zealand Residents!!
Obtaining a visa is no small feat, so residency is a MASSIVE accomplishment. We are so excited for this next step for our life here in NZ. Lots of time, effort, and resources went into applying for all of our visas that led up to this and we are so happy to finally have residency!
This is simply our path to residency. Please check the Immigration New Zealand website and contact a Licensed Immigration Advisor for any advice and guidance on your journey.

Hello! My name is Katie Eisenmenger (pronounced eyes-en-ming-er) and my husband, Keaton, and I moved from Nebraska, USA to Christchurch, New Zealand! I wanted to make this page as a way to document this wild journey. I would absolutely love to connect with anyone that is also making the move to NZ or any Kiwis that can offer some advice along the way! As the beginning of our last name is pronounced "eyes" I thought "Eis On New Zealand" would be the perfect channel name. I can't wait to document this journey for our memories and to also share it with all of you! 😄 Feel free to follow me on instagram @katiekeis_ 🥰
Yay...New Zealand gains a lot from good and positive people like you guys
Thank you so much. That’s so sweet. 🥹
Hey guys, Congratulations on your residency. It's been great watching you right from arriving in NZ. Look forward to more in the future...
Thanks so much!!
Congratulations 🎉 Happy you are here, New Zealand needs people like you and Keaton 😊
Thank you so much! ☺️
Congratulations. You will make wonderful Kiwis.
Thank you! 😊
Yay! Welcome aboard, you can now legally wear gumboots into the supermarket and the office. And only up to two sheep in the car at a time. There will be a yearly pie exam you must take to retain your residency (just eat 5x pies a year). Onya!
Oh I am well past 5 pies a year! 😂
@@eisonnewzealand And pjs to the supermarket, and bare feet
Looks like a win/win to me, Katie. You've got us but just as importantly, we've got you!!!
You’re too kind!

Huge congratulations you guys!
Thank you!!
Congratulations! And you can vote too!
Thank you!!
Hi Katie! I was lucky with Permanent Residence. When I applied in the early 2000's I hadn't been out of the country since I arrived as a baby. I had been born in Edinburgh and was thus a UK citizen. NZ immigration was painless and very helpful, at my first visit they gave me an Indefinite Reentry Visa, which can be renewed whenever I get a new passport. Well done on your efforts to make NZ home!
That’s awesome!
Congratulations, so glad to hear. Enjoyed following your life in NZ. Look forward to hearing more of your adventures.
Thank you!!
❤
So happy to welcome you two new KIwis. You will add such good vibes to the place. Loved the vid on your shopping places. Sounds great.
Thanks so much! 😊
Awesome, congratulations!
Thank you!! ☺️
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you!!
Congratulations guys 😎👍
Thanks!!
So excited for you guys! 🥳 I've been following your NZ journey from the beginning and have been waiting for the day when you guys would have residency and be able to buy your own home, as you mentioned in one of your early videos that was something you were looking to do. I'm keen to hear how it goes and your experiences in both systems, including how you feel about NZ's two agent system, along with your thoughts on the current state of that Kiwi obcession that is the housing market.
Good luck with finding a party to vote for that isn't a dumpster fire of short-sighted voter bribery or vaguely defined pipe-dreams, because that's what the politicians are all serving up this time round (though I suppose you guys are used to that already). But we'll get another shot at having some decent and effective policies in only three years, and you won't spend the whole time being endlessly campaigned at so we can be thankful for small mercies (something I expect you're less familiar with, given how ceaseless the US election cycle is). 😮💨
And don't be surprised when there's only one ballot paper with two categories on it for you to tick, because we're not into electing all our sheriffs, judges, janitors, and whatever else they elect over there. We keep it short and sweet so we can move on to complaining about whoever wins and blaming them for all our problems. I'll be interested to hear your carefully prepared 😉 thoughts on the whole Kiwi voting process and how it compares to the American experience once this is all over. 🙏
I think I will stay away from a video on the voting process 😂 I feel like the comments on that video would not end up too kind!
@@eisonnewzealand Yeah, probably a wise plan to be honest. 😅
Congrats!!
Thank you!!
Congrats team, blossoms are out, daylight savings is here. Life is good 👌
Thank you!!
So happy for you,
Thank you!
Congrats on your residency visa, I’m in the middle of my residency visa application :)
Thank you!! Best of luck!!!
So excited & proud of you, but still miss you so, so much....
Miss you too! We have to book you flights to visit!!
Yay!!
Haere mai, kia kaha.
Awesome country with natural beauty. God bless you! Stay blessed
Such a beautiful country. We love it 😊
Yay more kiwis
Woohoo!😊
Congratulations. I suggest you apply for permanent residency & look at the other options later. (I don't think you can have dual passports) Interesting that your health issue was picked up in the process. Seems to be not too serious, but at least you are aware of it. New Zealand needs people such as you & Keaton, and I wish you well in your "new home"
One step at a time! Not a serious issue at all. Was quite silly that they had to check it in the first place.
Thanks for the well wishes!
Having two passports is not an issue as far as NZ is concerned. I have two. It is more of an issue with other countries such as Japan or Singapore. US allows its citizens to have more than one passport so if and when these two become citizens that will not be a stumbling block.
As far as permanent residency, it has to be after two years. This is one that you can’t apply for ahead of time. I tried I was one day short and had probably the same travel restrictions you do. I had to apply to extend the regular residency and then when I got back did the permanent thing. Really only comes into play when you want to leave and come back. I suggest doing it two years to the day as you never know when you might want to leave. For me it was a funeral so I wanted to go home.
All the best on your future journey.
Nau mai haere mai ki Aotearoa e hoa! Welcome to New Zealand, friend!
Thank you!!
Congratulations. Good luck with the house hunting and
although interest rates are a bit high they will come down and houses won't ever be cheaper than they are right now
Thanks so much! And yes, trying to get into the market while we can!
Well done 😀, next the passport 😀
Haha it would be so cool to have duel citizenship!
Wow been watch you guys journey since you started this process, back then you didn't have this much subs... congrats to ur residency now you have options.. 👍😀 are u working now.
Thanks so much! I am working now!
I'm an upright good-for-nothing half-cut Kiwi. Luke Hurley.
I'd be really interested to see what you thought about how the election process works here, now that things are done at least for the time being.
Kia Ora nau mai aere mai East East East
Congratulations. Just remember one thing that does confuses some Americans since you're allowed to vote, if you were a blue voter in the states you're a red voter here. In the US the colours are reversed.
Understood!
I think you need to have permanent residency to vote please check
Ah! You’re correct! I must have read my email wrong the first go around!
I think the bit about not leaving the country is just a clause in your Residency Visa, to make sure you are committed to settling in New Zealand. You still have all of the rights of a permanent resident. When we came to New Zealand in 2007 we were issued two documents: 😊a Residency Permit and a Returning Residents Visa. The permit was indefinite, but the visa had to be renewed after two years. Since then they have streamlined the documentation, but essentially it works the same.
It must seem strange to be able to now register to vote in New Zealand and have your own input into who makes up these immigration laws.😅
Have you asked your landlord if they'd consider selling the rental?
We haven’t asked them. They just purchased the house from our previous landlord so we are thinking they will want to keep it!
Even if there wasn't time to register, it should still be possible to get a Special Vote.
