The comparison of the shape with a desk pen is spot on. Interesting shape, especially when posted. Also nice to see that the extra for a gold nib isn't ridiculous like with some other brands. A pity ordering from Europe makes it a quite an expensive pen due to import duties. Thanks for the review, looking forward to your videos in 2025!
Good golly, congratulations! I love this for you. 🎉🎉🎉 Stunning pen, the barrel taper is way cool. I must write w one. I love the pen rest, both really. Brooks’ resins are stellar. I own 2 Edison pens.. such a great company. This pen design is a futuristic retrospective.
Finally! Someone using the banana as a reference . Well I must say I am VERY impressed with the pen. I didn't think I would be … but I am. The only problem is that it is a little over my budget for the year … we shall see … but I just can't afford it for now. Happy New Year to you, sir. Thank you for entertaining and informing us throughout the year.
I have the Jameson and it is fantastic, I really want to save up and get one of these as well. Brian is a true master craftsman and working with him is a pleasure from my experience! He is so knowledgeable that I learned several things from him during our correspondence!
After being hit with its beautiful swirling color and warmth my next thought was. “It looks like a small wand!” Guess I’m not alone. Lol. This is going on my, very much want list!
I have an Edison Pearlette from several years ago, and it is a very nice pen, though quite small. This looks like a new and unique offering. I am very intrigued at the look at it.
What a beautiful pen! It's just gone on the top of my list for 2025. I love it when people rethink a design and make a great job of it, rather than change because they think they have to. His passion is obvious. Thanks Doug.
The most beautiful and interesting design of a fountain pen in a long time. In perfect craftsmanship. I think the current price is quite reasonable. Added to that is the absolutely beautiful material. I expected nothing else from you, that this FP is not going anywhere. It will certainly bring you a lot of joy. A great video, not only because of the FP but also because of the careful compilation of the video material and the additional information.
TY Doug,,,,,,,,,,,, wow, what a pen! I'm jealous and great review:>) Went to purchase one and reckon I need to contact Edison first? I do not own any Edison pens yet for some reason, so am am to grab one. TY so much for providing these excellent reviews to the pen community. Great choice of ink as well............
Yes. All of the Signature Line pens go through contact with Brian directly using the contact form on the website. He will be back in the office after New Years.
I could not explain why, but I thought of the Golden 20ths & 30ths immediately, when you presented the pen the first time and again, when I saw the black one presented by Brian. This could have been the pen lying on Marlene Dietrichs desk. I even imagined that. Then you pointed out "Form Follows Funktion" at the early 20ths and its principles the pen follows, which makes absolutely sense for me. A STUNNING pen. Love it!
@@mariatriesart8389She was the first woman to wear a suit with trousers in public, because she felt free and comfortable with it - Form Follows Funktion as well ;-).
Dammit, the banana made me spit coffee.. 😂 Doug, confession… I watched other pens reviews for a few days. Forgive me, Doug, for I have sinned. Your reviews are truly the best. I enjoy every aspect from the unboxing to your writing display and everything in between. More cut aways would always be appreciated, like more cow bell. Thx, :D
That pen is absolutely stunning! That is design genius…like Steve Jobs Apple worthy design genius. (I’m a big Apple fan and have been since I was a kid and my Dad came home with an Apple II+.) When you first showed the pen, I thought…that’s a kind of funky looking bamboo shaped conductor’s baton, and I didn’t think it would post. I’m so glad you included the interview with Brian where he explains the brilliance of it. I love how the grip flares out, as I hold pens close to the tip, and am prone to slide down. The shape of the cap fitting perfectly into the “thumb crotch” is just brilliant, and perfect!! The resin is beautiful and the ink pairing was perfect. Bravo to Brian of Edison Pens! Thank you for sharing about the story of Edison pens, I had heard the name, but figured it was some old brand that was now made in China and didn’t really give any thought to it. Well, that’s changed!!!! I’m going over to their site now to check their stuff out!!! Good for them for being a small business in the US…not the easiest thing to do! I’d like to support that if I can…I may be saving my pennies for that Elysian!!!
@ I did go and check out their site as well as some of their retailers! I really love the Comet also, the one with the yellow finial. What a great looking pen! Unique and interesting and in a gorgeous resin! Yep, I think I’m going to be saving my pennies…and watching reviews on Edison pens because they are beautiful pieces of art, and while I just can’t randomly purchase one, they aren’t priced to an unreachable point that I can’t save a few months for, and I appreciate that as well! I’m willing to do that for a small business that works with other small businesses to create lovely, handcrafted and designed pens for people who will enjoy and appreciate them. I think that makes them a little special. Thanks for bringing this brand to my attention!
I’ve looked into Edison Pen Company, and I think this may be a pen I get as a special pen, my first over $30, that I get for my birthday. I love the Elysian…it’s soooo tempting. But, I also love the Comet ☄️ There’s just something super cool about it, and I’d love to have one made with a comet bright finial and a cool matching resin…Goldspot has a really nice version that I also like. I’d love it if you’d review the Comet! Almost no one has reviewed that pen! Anyway…just begging…and…were I to spend the extra $100 or so, would you go for the Elysian or the Comet (for context, I have smaller hands, like pens that post, and how interesting the actual design of the pen is something I like, and something I find for sure in the Elysian, and to an extent in the Comet…I also love astronomy, so the Comet appeals to that.)
Goldspot has recently stocked the entire line of Diamine Inkvent 50 ml bottles, so you can find Yule Log there. 😀 That ink was the very first full size ink bottle that I ever bought, and it's about 1/2 done now. It's my favorite brown. And it goes beautifully with that pen and resin! The Elysian is going on my 2025 pen list now.
Wow!! What a beautiful pen! The resin is glorious. The design is stunning. I have been want to get a pen from Edison. This is the one, if the price is right. Thanks, Doug. This is a stellar pen.
Great review Doug! Brian Grey’s Edison company is a great place to purchase a pen (imo). Prices are not exactly inexpensive, but I’ve purchased at least two of them, and they work very well, they look Great!🥰, and the they are made in the good old US of A! I’m not against any other country, but for me, 20 year USN veteran, I kind of like seeing well made things still made in the USA. Eh, nice looking fountain pen 👍😎. Best wishes to you and your family for the season’s Holiday, and may you and yours be Blessed in the upcoming year. 😊🤗😇👍😎
My Collier is out for delivery today! (I remembered to use the link) I got it in persimmon - the orange with black swirl that was in your photo of design examples. I got it in medium, but also a spare stub. So much influence from this channel. 😅 Btw I'm really enjoying the flashlight work you've been doing with the pens to show off the design of their innards. 🔦 It was so satisfying to see the fit of the cap on your fancy new pen. Congrats on finding one that makes you so happy. And Happy New Year!🎉
Another hit out of the ball park Doug! A new very appealing pen in such a unique shape and I swear I heard someone say "wingardium leviosa"!! I think this one will be on my "to get" list. There was another bespoke pen that is a "mini" version of one this other maker already has out, but this one is still in development. These are considerations for after the start of the new year. If it's not a fine nib then I do gravitate to 1.1 stubs and that one looks like a winner. There really is no in between unless it happens to be an exceptional medium like the Pineider I got from you, and now a Sheaffer 300 that was a very recent purchase. Thanks for the past year of videos, and here's to a happy and prosperous New Year to come!!
It is just mesmerizing the level of design and planning that went into that pen! And thank you Doug for explaining it all in your usually engaging and simple way! I am not sue if I will go for the Elysian (not exactly my style), but I do love Edison Pen (I have several from their production line) and maybe I will go with a signature line for my birthday (I am considering the Jameson with a #8 nib, but maybe it will be an Elysian :)).
Hi Doug, I was wondering if you have seen a brand of pens called “Recife” from Paris, I have a Pearl Soyuz and it is by far my favourite pen. I was looking for a French pen manufacturer that was not owned by a conglomerate and that made their own pens and found them. As I could not find a shop that sold them, I made my way to their offices. The director was charming and surprised I made my way there from the polar circle in Norway. They allowed me to choose the materials for my pen and manufactured it and delivered in two days in the centre of Paris. They make their own guilloche and have some ebonite pens. Their designs are unique and I hardly see them mention in pen reviews. They are also well priced. Thanks for all the reviews and wish you the best for next year.
Well, that puts paid to my New Year's resolution to ease off on pen purchases! (Not as crazy as it sounds; try as I might to entice my family into the hobby, I've mostly failed; now I'm old enough to start paying attention to streamlining collections). Brian Gray & co. do a superb job on all of their pens! I write small so Brian has tuned my nibs to allow reverse writing as smooth as "normal".
Well, Doug, it's easy to see why you like this one. The profile suggests a dip pen-holder that has been designed with a more sophisticated approach to the ergonomics of writing. All the best for 2025 and all the Restoration shows you can muster. Cheers from the White Pointers.
