We were told that it is because it is considered rude in some cultures to point with one finger. That’s also why flight attendants so the same thing. Your versions definitely more fun tho 😂❤

The only thing is, there are people who say a lot of what he said and they aren’t joking 😅 I thought his personality was great but in some of them it could just come across wrong. There can also be so much humour that it comes across as defective so you don’t really learn anything about them apart from their humour.

Hearing Spencer talk about his heart condition was SO comforting. I’m 30 and a few years ago I also got diagnosed with a heart condition and have a device under my skin, similar to a pacemaker, so to hear other people normally living their lives (as most of us do) makes me feel so good! I also feel like it’s important to tell people you date, but to also hope it’s not all they see you as. Loved Spencer already but this makes him so much more special to me! Hope you guys find someone fun for him! ☺️

I’m a cardiac nurse and so crazy to hear Spencer’s story! I rarely see patients under age 50. Especially with a pacemaker. Glad he went in and they discovered it and glad he’s doing well now! Super scary
That's so crazy that Spencer has a pacemaker I would've never thought that! I also have a pacemaker and im 23! I've had a heart condition since I was like 2 months old soo yea I can def relate to him! Wow! 😅 thats wild wishing a good long healthy life for him! 🙂

This podcast really brightened my mood. I was in a bicycle accident on the 12th. I broke my neck and jaw, knocked three teeth loose, and busted my upper lip open. I had a concussion and dont remember whar happened. The past few days have been stressful. Thank you guys for bringing a smile to my face while i recover. Also, i worked for disney world back in 2018. We were taught to do the two finger point but never told why. It was just a rule we followed. I worked back stage so i didn’t have to use it much. I still have my name tag from working there. Again thank you guys for making this day brighter. ❤

In the past few years I had to bury three of my closest friends, my Eddie Bear (my little cream Frenchie girl), as well as my last living Grandma and some of my fiancé’s best friends. I don’t have the same condition you have but I do have a heart condition where sometimes the bottom half of my heart beats prematurely. I was diagnosed with it just 2 years ago. So thank you for sharing that part of you with us! 🫶🏼😊
@@kayc5496 feeling like a flutter in my chest and sometimes kind of faint when it did happen. I found out during the summer and I guess the heat and being slightly dehydrated didn’t help as well. I was having the weird fluttering feeling in my chest for an about 4 days. Then one night my heart started racing really fast my heart rate went up to 143 bpm with the premature heart beats so had to call 911. They were able to see on my ekg while at the hospital and diagnosed me with it. Sometimes it happens when I’m either really anxious about something or when I’m really hot weather. Thankfully it’s not life threatening and I don’t need anything to manage it because it is so random and doesn’t happen that often.

Spencer - your story about your diagnosis of ARVC is almost the same as my youngest son. He was diagnosed in 2017 and he had just turned 14. Was playing basketball, heart rate between 250-270, was at Duke for a week. Would love to chat more about your diagnosis and if they found the genetic mutation for it. So glad you are doing well!!
My mom also had ARVC and unfortunately she died suddenly at 50 without ever knowing she had the condition until they performed the autopsy. It’s pretty special for me to hear your son’s story and Spencer’s, I have never met, let alone talked to, another individual who has any experience with this disease. When my mom first died and I would go into doctors offices trying to figure out my risk factors and if any of my health issues could be related, they would look at me like I’m crazy when I mention the term “ARVC”. It’s been a decade and I still haven’t received any type of testing other than basic EKGS. But No episodes like your sons that landed me in the ER, to my knowledge my mom never experience an episode like that either but I can’t be sure. A scary reality.
@breonasea was your mom ever tested for which genetic mutation caused her ARVC? When our son was tested, he tested negative for the 13 known genetic mutations for ARVC. He was negative for all 13. When my husband and I were first dating, I became pregnant. We placed our first born son for adoption. Unfortunately he passed away in 2012 at age 17 due to and enlarged heart which we found out was due to ARVC. This was discovered after out youngest was diagnosed and the electrophysiology looked at our oldest's autopsy report. Anyways, we were told that since both boys had it, this meant it was possible that our other 2 children might have it as well as myself and my hubby. After some tests, it was determined that out middle son also had ARVC however our daughter did not. We ended up going through a research group to fund the gene mutation (a possible 14th one not yet discovered).
No my mom never got tested for the genetic mutations during autopsy to my knowledge, but I was only 16 when she passed, it was so unexpected and she was out of state when it happened so getting her body back to our home state was my grandfather’s main priority at that point I think. Nobody really knew what to do with the ARVC info, or what it even meant. The detective who was handling moms case reached out to next of kin and informed them of the ARVC and suggested getting us kids tested too. That info about me needing testing wasn’t ever passed on to me at the time and never happened. I don’t think anyone was fully aware of the impact it could have on me or my sister until I started doing my own research into what exactly ARVC was and realized the likelihood of inheritance. This year will be a decade since she passed and I still can’t get doctors to take me seriously enough to perform genetic testing/ don’t know how to force the hand. I truly believe this to be the result of poor health insurance and no resources/very little knowledge about this disease in general Medicine. The best I can get is EKGS. My insurance won’t even pay for a holter monitor when the cardiologist recommended we try that after ekgs kept coming back not 100% normal. Hearing stories like yours makes me realize just how much the health care system has failed me on this journey.
I so so so appreciate you sharing this with me. It gives me hope that there are other routes out there for me to try to take as I am now an adult and have more resources/ the power to handle my own medical needs. Thank you so much for being willing to share your story. RIP to your son
From the perspective of one of the many mommies that watch the show, I started watching when I was 9yrs old in 2009(I know I shouldn't have been but now I'm glad I did.) I'm 23 now with a 5 year old daughter and everything is coming full circle watching you go through life, find love, build a family, go through hell and thrive... Thank you for being a safe place for me and so many others even if you don't realize it. ❤
Wow, as a 38 year old, your story makes me feel ancient! 😂💀 I too have been watching Shane since he started his YT channel and then of course watched Ryland’s journey along with the journeys of Shane’s family members and friends. Cherish every moment that you are able to spend with your precious daughter. I have been trying to start a family of my own for years to no avail.
I’m a mother to a very almost 14 year old daughter, and I’m her full time carer as she has half a heart, so I spend a lot of time at home alone when she is at school as I’m “on call” if you will, and I love watching your podcast then because I can get on with things around the home but it doesn’t feel so painfully quiet haha! (My daughter has many scars on her chest from 4 open heart surgeries and 8 cardiac catheters, so it was nice to hear about Spencer’s story)

My husband has had an internal defibrillator since he was 18 months old and my son will get one placed in a few shorts months. I’m struggling with it mentally, my son just turned a year old last month. It’s so nice to see someone like you thriving, living a normal life. It’s just reassuring and comforting to hear /see stuff like this. & it was so special for me to hear in one of Shane’s videos. Thank you again.

The only thing is, there are people who say a lot of what he said and they aren’t joking 😅 I thought his personality was great but in some of them it could just come across wrong. There can also be so much humour that it comes across as defective so you don’t really learn anything about them apart from their humour.

Hearing Spencer talk about his heart condition was SO comforting. I’m 30 and a few years ago I also got diagnosed with a heart condition and have a device under my skin, similar to a pacemaker, so to hear other people normally living their lives (as most of us do) makes me feel so good! I also feel like it’s important to tell people you date, but to also hope it’s not all they see you as. Loved Spencer already but this makes him so much more special to me! Hope you guys find someone fun for him! ☺️

I’m a cardiac nurse and so crazy to hear Spencer’s story! I rarely see patients under age 50. Especially with a pacemaker. Glad he went in and they discovered it and glad he’s doing well now! Super scary
That's so crazy that Spencer has a pacemaker I would've never thought that! I also have a pacemaker and im 23! I've had a heart condition since I was like 2 months old soo yea I can def relate to him! Wow! 😅 thats wild wishing a good long healthy life for him! 🙂

This podcast really brightened my mood. I was in a bicycle accident on the 12th. I broke my neck and jaw, knocked three teeth loose, and busted my upper lip open. I had a concussion and dont remember whar happened. The past few days have been stressful. Thank you guys for bringing a smile to my face while i recover. Also, i worked for disney world back in 2018. We were taught to do the two finger point but never told why. It was just a rule we followed. I worked back stage so i didn’t have to use it much. I still have my name tag from working there. Again thank you guys for making this day brighter. ❤

I don’t have the same condition you have but I do have a heart condition where sometimes the bottom half of my heart beats prematurely. I was diagnosed with it just 2 years ago. So thank you for sharing that part of you with us! 🫶🏼😊

@@kayc5496 feeling like a flutter in my chest and sometimes kind of faint when it did happen. I found out during the summer and I guess the heat and being slightly dehydrated didn’t help as well. I was having the weird fluttering feeling in my chest for an about 4 days. Then one night my heart started racing really fast my heart rate went up to 143 bpm with the premature heart beats so had to call 911. They were able to see on my ekg while at the hospital and diagnosed me with it. Sometimes it happens when I’m either really anxious about something or when I’m really hot weather. Thankfully it’s not life threatening and I don’t need anything to manage it because it is so random and doesn’t happen that often.
Hey to all of you guys! Here a former Cast Member and I can tell you that the real reason for the pointing with two finger is more to no offend any culture. In many parts of Southeast Asia, using just one finger to point is considered rude. So we get trained to don’t use one finger to not offend no body. Love you guys

Spencer - your story about your diagnosis of ARVC is almost the same as my youngest son. He was diagnosed in 2017 and he had just turned 14. Was playing basketball, heart rate between 250-270, was at Duke for a week. Would love to chat more about your diagnosis and if they found the genetic mutation for it. So glad you are doing well!!
My mom also had ARVC and unfortunately she died suddenly at 50 without ever knowing she had the condition until they performed the autopsy. It’s pretty special for me to hear your son’s story and Spencer’s, I have never met, let alone talked to, another individual who has any experience with this disease. When my mom first died and I would go into doctors offices trying to figure out my risk factors and if any of my health issues could be related, they would look at me like I’m crazy when I mention the term “ARVC”. It’s been a decade and I still haven’t received any type of testing other than basic EKGS. But No episodes like your sons that landed me in the ER, to my knowledge my mom never experience an episode like that either but I can’t be sure. A scary reality.
@breonasea was your mom ever tested for which genetic mutation caused her ARVC? When our son was tested, he tested negative for the 13 known genetic mutations for ARVC. He was negative for all 13. When my husband and I were first dating, I became pregnant. We placed our first born son for adoption. Unfortunately he passed away in 2012 at age 17 due to and enlarged heart which we found out was due to ARVC. This was discovered after out youngest was diagnosed and the electrophysiology looked at our oldest's autopsy report. Anyways, we were told that since both boys had it, this meant it was possible that our other 2 children might have it as well as myself and my hubby. After some tests, it was determined that out middle son also had ARVC however our daughter did not. We ended up going through a research group to fund the gene mutation (a possible 14th one not yet discovered).
No my mom never got tested for the genetic mutations during autopsy to my knowledge, but I was only 16 when she passed, it was so unexpected and she was out of state when it happened so getting her body back to our home state was my grandfather’s main priority at that point I think. Nobody really knew what to do with the ARVC info, or what it even meant. The detective who was handling moms case reached out to next of kin and informed them of the ARVC and suggested getting us kids tested too. That info about me needing testing wasn’t ever passed on to me at the time and never happened. I don’t think anyone was fully aware of the impact it could have on me or my sister until I started doing my own research into what exactly ARVC was and realized the likelihood of inheritance. This year will be a decade since she passed and I still can’t get doctors to take me seriously enough to perform genetic testing/ don’t know how to force the hand. I truly believe this to be the result of poor health insurance and no resources/very little knowledge about this disease in general Medicine. The best I can get is EKGS. My insurance won’t even pay for a holter monitor when the cardiologist recommended we try that after ekgs kept coming back not 100% normal. Hearing stories like yours makes me realize just how much the health care system has failed me on this journey.
I so so so appreciate you sharing this with me. It gives me hope that there are other routes out there for me to try to take as I am now an adult and have more resources/ the power to handle my own medical needs. Thank you so much for being willing to share your story. RIP to your son

I'm 23 now with a 5 year old daughter and everything is coming full circle watching you go through life, find love, build a family, go through hell and thrive... All while I went through the same things. Thank you Shane. As well as Ryland, your mom, Jerid, Chris, and everyone thats a part of your life. Wow, as a 38 year old, your story makes me feel ancient! 😂💀 I too have been watching Shane since he started his YT channel and then of course watched Ryland’s journey along with the journeys of Shane’s family members and friends. Cherish every moment that you are able to spend with your precious daughter. I have been trying to start a family of my own for years to no avail.
I’m a mother to a very almost 14 year old daughter, and I’m her full time carer as she has half a heart, so I spend a lot of time at home alone when she is at school as I’m “on call” if you will, and I love watching your podcast then because I can get on with things around the home but it doesn’t feel so painfully quiet haha!
(My daughter has many scars on her chest from 4 open heart surgeries and 8 cardiac catheters, so it was nice to hear about Spencer’s story)

Spencer, thank you so much for sharing about your heart condition. My husband and youngest son both have a genetic heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. My husband has had an internal defibrillator since he was 18 months old and my son will get one placed in a few shorts months. I’m struggling with it mentally, my son just turned a year old last month. It’s so nice to see someone like you thriving, living a normal life. It’s just reassuring and comforting to hear /see stuff like this. & it was so special for me to hear in one of Shane’s videos. Thank you again.
