Crystal Manatees - Florida Manatee Wildlife

This was filmed on one amazing day in Three Sisters Springs, Crystal River, Florida. The music is by my good friends Human Agency (humanagency.bandcamp.com), currently blowing up the Denver music scene.
This day was a dream, this trip was serendipitous...every step fell into place like clockwork.
Despite manatees not being commonly seen in the area for months, the one day I show up to Crystal River so do the sea cows. I saw huge males, tiny babies, and playful teenage manatees all in Three Sisters Springs at the same time. I also interacted with the fauna of the ecosystem, including snappers, bluegills, and cormorants, who were busy hunting fish.
This experience stands out as one of my favorite wildlife encounters to date. The manatees are so friendly, and genuinely seem to appreciate your company. They eagerly seek out belly-rubs and scratches in the same way my dog does. It was so much fun hanging out with them. Unfortunately, I also saw scars on the backs of nearly every manatee in the springs. The animals get hurt or killed from run-ins with boats in the Florida waterways. Only 5,000 or so of these amazing animals remain in the wild.
This was filmed with GoPro Hero2 and Hero3 cameras, filmed at either 1080p or 2.7k, 30fps, using the ProTune setting. All filming and editing was done by William Drumm. Editing was in GoPro CineForm Studio and Final Cut Pro X. For stock footage please inquire at bill@williamdrumm.com

They are gentle and sweet. I saw them in Florida in a small area off a doc. I pet them as they climb face up on the dock. They are very friendly and loving.

I went there in May, probably the worst month to visit (since most manatees are out of the river) had the best experience ever. At 6 AM I went to the river and a baby manatee went right up to me along with its mom. Sweetest creatures ever!

Wow! I knew Cormorants could dive under water, but seeing one almost casually hunting around, had me holding my breath on it's behalf! The Manatees are surprisingly graceful and agile, and look like they could get playful too! Wonderful!

Great shots, good cuts, very nice! Everyone loves manatees, but the fish and the cormorants were an unexpected treat. Next time I down in your area I plan to do a lot more filming with the GoPro stationery on a tripod, while I watch from a distance, hoping to get shots like yours.

Those are beautiful beings, related to walruses, so gentle and loving. We have to protect them from motor boat blades. Please write petition letters to the legislators in Florida to give the Manatees better protection.

Fun fact:the original concept of mermaids came from a bunch of pirates that saw manatees from a distance, and they thought they were mermaids. A few years later they found out it was just a bunch of manatees.

They seem a lot more algaed up then some other manatees that I watch. Do the little fish clean them up good after they are there for a while or is it just that the water is so clean that they appear to have more algae on them? These ones appear very happy and the water there looks so clean
