Viva Puerto Rico premieres Wednesday, April 12, 8-9 pm ET. www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/puerto...
Antillean manatees cruise the coastlines of Puerto Rico, spending most of their time feeding on the sea grass. But while they graze, they are vulnerable to being struck by speeding jet-skis and boats. At the Manatee Conservation Center, just outside the capital city of San Juan, several injured individuals and orphans are on their way to release in the wild.

Could we create sea grass fields? Creating areas where manatees can be kept and safely live while also making it a popular attraction for tourist. We can make a small part of the field the drop off area and put a strict limit to the number of people In the fields and have divers watch them to make sure no tries to make so shit “ancient medicine” out of them

I fish out of a kayak in Florida and manatees scare me more than sharks or gators. They are so slowmoving and fond of laying on the bottom, it's very easy to drift over one and not know it until you spook them. The you are in shallow water, in a kayak over a thousand pound frightened animal.

OH! really? They are sweet, curious creatures that live here in Florida mostly. You can swim and kayak with them in the springs in the winter and cooler months. They get hurt by boats. A LOT, in fact, they almost went extinct but humans are more aware of them now and there are so many great programs out there like this, working hard to keep the species strong so we can enjoy them forever.

They are fed homegrown seaweed that are kept in aquaculture pools.
The two in the same pool got released already. Ideally no manatee would ever be in a pool but because of injuries or sickness some have to spend a short time in pools before being released. Gua cara the large one literally cannot be in a bigger pool because he would drown because of his collapsed lung. He can’t float and gets exhausted easily
