Sweetbitter tells the story of Tess (Ella Purnell), a 22-year-old who arrives in New York City ready to pursue a new life. When she finds herself interviewing for a position at one of the best restaurants in the city, she thinks she’s found a steady income and a safe place to wait. But Tess is quickly intoxicated by the chaotic, adrenalized world behind-the-scenes, tasting expensive wine, exploring dive bars, and learning who she can trust. Sweetbitter is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by series creator Stephanie Danler who serves as executive producer and writer on the series. She is joined as an executive producer by Stu Zicherman (The Americans, The Affair, Six Degrees) who also serves as showrunner and director of the finale episode and Richard Shepard (The Matador, Dom Hemingway, Girls, Criminal Minds, Ugly Betty) who directed the series premiere episode. Plan B Entertainment’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg also executive produce the series.

This writer producer is so bland and vanilla it’s no wonder this show is so boring with boring one dimensional characters with no sense of humor and a plot that is this: the lead character who is a very cute insecure loner comes all alone to NYC boy friendless (not believable) gets a job training at a restaurant, has a crush on the bartender, she watches everyone including Mr Bartender (she’s like a peeping Tom) screw each other, she let’s guys she doesn’t like use her, as she keeps working at the restaurant watching others screw, dates no one, gets used... it’s the most ridiculous boring plot over and over... but at least her taste buds for wine and her ability to carry food improve each episode.

Tess isn't the one letting guys use her. She is the one using guys. She doesn't like Will. She knows she prefers Jake. But what does she do? She sleeps with Will and continuously leads him on. (That's the chief reason why I hate her, actually.) And oh, by the way: if there had been a season 3, and if it had followed the novel, Tess would end up sleeping with Howard so she could (A) get Simone fired and (B) replace Simone as server. Yet another example of her using someone. (Keep in mind that this is while she's involved with Jake. So that means that not only is she a user, but she is also a cheater! But the joke's on her, because Howard transfers her to the BBQ place. HAH!) Don't pretend that she's an "innocent widdle lamb." She's far from it.
