In my opinion, this is the most perfect Vai song. Not that I do not acknowledge Vai's burlesque vein, as I consider Flex-able and Flex-able Leftovers my favourite Vai albums, as he was as free as Zappa to compose whatever he thought fit. But Windows to the Soul is just the perfection of his other side, the mystical side. Vai is burlesque and mystical.
You put it well. He definitely has some very strong aspects to his personality/playing. For me “For the Love of God” might be his most spiritual song, but “Windows to the Soul” will always be my favorite solo of his, just for how every single little note is perfectly played and placed within this peace. There’s just so many heartbreakingly gorgeous little phrases and notes throughout this. Too many to even name and describe.
For me the song and the way Steve is playing it is so sensual!! ❤️Oh my God i love it. I saw and heard it for the first time 23 years ago. And my impression has never changed, I adore it❤️❤️❤️, steve is a genius❤️❤️❤️

As a huge fan of The Ultra zone, this was a great tour.. I wish he would play more songs from the album, but I think he doesn't play any of them anymore.

Gosh I never actually tapped my foot to this song till you mentioned the time signature 😂. I always got lost in my spine and in the deepest recesses of my timeless conscience (as Steve probably intended lol). Now I realize how terribly difficult this is to play. Thanks for the insight!

You mean the green tape under the neck pickup? Its to prevent the first string to Get stucked under the pickup when using the bridge whammy bar (usually divebombs)
