I am from the USA we have a New Holland 313 pulltype 13 foot cut disc mower. The reason the tongue is so long is because they pull from the center so you can swing the haybine both ways and cut off of either side of the tractor.

The draw bar on the mower is so long so you can turn 90 degrees (turn tighter)

There's a long drawbar on the mowr cus it is a centerpull

The drawbars are long so that they sit better on hills and set ground compared to the likes of Kuhn with short drawbars, the centre pivot is longer again for the same reason.

also the drawbar is long back in the day is to distribute the weight couse the weight of the tractor couldnt handle the whole weight of the modern mower should i say but yea for tight turns on the field
