A kiddish is a social gathering that takes place on a Saturday afternoon right after everyone gets out of synagogue. It’s a time to mingle and eat some yummy food and drinks.
This week we hosted our first kiddish and it went SO well.
    #kiddish #kosherfood #entertaining
    Mini Lotus Cups:
    2 small whipping creams
    1/4 cup of sugar
    1 toffuti cream cheese
    Cholent:
    1 and a 1/2 cups Cholent mix
    1/2 cup of barley
Grated apple, carrot, tomato and onion
    Salt
    Paprika
    Hot paprika
    1 tbsp salt
    1 tbsp consome
1 small can of tomato sauce
    2-3 lamb steaks
    Pastrami Pizza:
Sauté onion and pastrami. Add BBQ sauce and let mixture brown. To assemble: on a pizza crust add spicy mayo, then pastrami mixture. Top with arugula, more spicy mayo and bbq sauce.

I was recently back home in New York . I grew up in Borough Park Brooklyn. When my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I immediately dropped everything and flew back home to take care of her. The hospital that she was in was it a kosher hospital and I clearly remember having Cholent for the first time in years. Despite being hospital food I thought it was amazing. It made me miss it.

I was afraid the cholent pot was going to overflow. And, just when you finished adding the powdered seasonings and I thought “whew”, you added potatoes!!!!!! 😅

Hi Sonya! How much garlic powder did your husband use in his potato kugel recipe? Did you squeeze excess starch from the potatoes before mixing into your egg mixture? I’m making this for our 1st night Seder.
Update: Ok, I just removed from the oven and it smells amazing. Still I’d like to understand a little more detail. Also how long did you leave in overnight? For me, I left in 8hrs.

I am not Jewish, I am actually a Christain who has a strong conviction to follow a lot of the Jewish traditions and laws. Now, I know I could never follow all of them, but I do follow a decent amount. Especially when it comes to the Sabbath. I love these videos and it makes me excited to prep and cook everything!!!! Thank you so much and I hope everything I said is deemed okay. I am only speaking truth from my life.

You can either leave the food on a special hot plate before Shabbos begins, to stay warm or you can place it before Shabbos on a "blech", a metal sheet you cover the flame(s) on the stovetop with,
We are not allowed to either higher or lower the flame, the entire Shabbos. It remains covered until Shabbos is over at nightfall, Saturday night.
I assume Sonya uses the hotplate, it works very well, on the same principle as the covered flame.

Hi I love your channel. Love those desserts you made with the cream. I was wondering if that is a non dairy cream and how do you make a non dairy cream. The cholent was amazing as well. I was wondering if that dessert was a dairy one if you could serve it after the cholent.

The whipping cream is called Rich’s Whip and is usually found on the frozen section of most kosher supermarkets.

Sonya, beautiful spread. You make it look so easy and fast. I have never seen kugels made that way. I am going to give it a try. Question: when you leave the kugel in the oven overnight, how many hours exactly would that be? Thank you and Good Shabbos.

    • @SonyasPrep
      @SonyasPrep  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Diana Felder I’m so happy it’s coming across easy and fast but of course this all takes time. The kugel stays in the oven 7-8 hours.

Also, I don’t know if anyone ever told you, but consommé is pronounced ‘con-so-may’. 😉
We go through a _LOT_ of consommé powder in our house, too. I swear it makes everything taste better. Hahaha 😆
