I actually did a Knife Making Workshop with Jesse last October - had a wonderful day, good to see him at it again, brought back great memories of the day :)
Damn, this one feels so well put together! I don't care if you actually waited for the clocks to show the time you wanted to capture or just put it forward manually, but having these small clips in the video just made so much sense for the transitions. Same for the split screens of you two, lovely. Additionally, the moment Jesse realizes his work was good and cheered for himself, it was just a huge joy to watch!! Thanks for your continuing effort, much appreciated break in our simple peoples lives :)
thank you for such a sweet comment🥹 We're just so glad to be able to share little bits of our lives here, and have you come along with us! I am glad I kept that bit with Jesse- I think his relief after spending weeks on this project really comes through in that moment!
These productions of yours are so well made that I watch them about 2 or 3 times, just to appreciate every single detail! Hope you keep up with the channel for the next years. Greetings from Brazil!
Jess is very talented. Pancake opening the door by himself (cannot remember if a boy or girl 😬) and Mika putting everything together. Great area and everyone is respectful of others. This is living...without drama.
I can not describe the feelings I get, while watching your videos. It is so deeply calming and in a sense releafing to see that there are still places like this, where the world becomes quiet. This truely seems like a paradise. Thank you for these deep insights into your life in true harmony and peace. Slow living is a forgotten art of life in our fastmoving and modern world. I am so grateful that you share this small piece of your personal heaven with us. 🌏❤
Thank you for your kind words. We are incredibly fortunate to be living in such a beautiful part of the world, and I am happy to be able to share even just a little bit of the peace that we find here.😊
Pancake chooses to only reveal the Tip of the Iceberg, regarding his many talents, by opening the screen so expertly! All hail the mighty and omnipotent Pancake! 😄
Love seeing Pancake, he’s so cute! We live in Japan too and our dog Mikan looks just like him! We got her from a rescue in Hiroshima, so who knows, maybe they’re relatives! 😊 Love the videos, keep up the great work!
Yeah, AC! After viewing the "new fan" video, I was becoming concerned for your health and wellbeing. Nice new car too, I see. Mika, the Creature from the Black Lagoon (with bright blue mask and snorkel) and Pancake's response, can't be bought. Congratulations on this video accomplishment! I will close by expressing admiration and joy for you, Jesse. Super job.
such an exceptional video. i love the contrast of the tech/video work vs the blacksmithing, then coming back at the end of the day and doing couples stuff. so good.
this was a fun new format, i enjoyed every second! one thing i notice and appreciate about your videos is the balance between music and natural sounds from the footage, its very satisfying. i especially love hearing the voices of the bugs- the essential sounds of summer!!
the beauty and joy of every day life focusing on little toadies and the shadows of leaves dancing on the wall~ I love the energy these bring and I'm genuinely so glad somebody told me about this channel because for the past 6 months its been a reminder of seeking peace and joy. I can click on this and be transported not just to a cool location but also a really nice mindset.
Super video very enjoyable just shows how much work goes into video editing and not to mention a Blacksmith a very honourable and patient art, just loving it.
What a nice job on this - we viewers almost forget to think about time and location, where each of you was when each shot was taken - just really well done! It’s also great to think about a life away from the proverbial rat race: there is no pretending you three aren’t busy and hard working. You’ve made choices about what your efforts will go to, but it is good for all us dreamers to see that living well requires effort! Thanks for this.
Thank you so much, Pat, for your insightful comment! We are truly grateful for where we are today, but we are also very proud of the work we put into getting here. We wouldn't be living the lives we once dreamed of without it!
Tip for Jess. Quench in a vertical tube filled with oil. The tube diameter is close to the width of the metal being hardened. That way the metal remains straight as it cools on both sides simultaneously. Oil has a lower rate of cooling, than water and the metal is less likely to crack. When tempering quench in another tube again close to the width of the metal. Filled with water if the tempering temperature is critical. Otherwise, use oil. The narrow tube forces the metal to be lowered into the cooling liquid vertically. The metal remains straight as it cools on both sides simultaneously
I really love your videos. They are so well made, calming and interesting. Seeing how a blacksmith makes normal tools was super fascinating. I had never seen that, only medival stuff on ren fairs.
Your videos are so aesthetically pleasing and relaxing. I'm in California watching friends and family lose their homes. Thankyou! Maybe Japan is where we need to go❤🎁🎑
I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for you and your loved ones in California right now. 😰 It’s horrible to see friends and family facing such challenges. I’m glad that my videos can offer you a little peace and relaxation during this tough time. Please take care of yourself and stay strong!
So happy for Jesse in this one. I was always a little worried he might not be having enough fun. But this one completely alleviated my fears! So happy for you guys!!! Nothing like a well earned sense of accomplishment. Gosh I wish I knew how the battle between the 🕷 and the 🦀 turned out 😅
Lovely video! The cinematography looks so cool--great visuals and smooth transitions👌 Sidenote: Having to completely build/disassemble both beds every day would drive me nuts haha
Wonderful vids, editing and music. Lived in Japan 3 years, Shindenjuku, Zama Shi. The pace of life, connection to nature, architecture, agriculture. Picnics at the Sagami River. Watching the process of raising rice from flooding the fields to harvest. The festivals. Yakimo truck on a cold winters day. Love watching PancakeE (as the Japanese say I'm sure). And Scott Manley fans too. Can't wait till the next.
What a stunning scene you've described! I can imagine Shindenjuku being incredibly beautiful. Thank you for being a part of our journey and sticking with us- I hope it brings back the same sense of beauty you experienced three years ago. 😊
I'm living in kyoto for study abroad now so I really feel what you mean when you talk about summer heat Dx My weather app says it "feels 45 degrees" and it certainly does!!!
You are both accomplished and hard working people ! It was instructive and so heart warming. Pancake is growing so fast ! What a lovely family you are !
God, I love this beautiful, lush, green landscape. And so quiet! I definitively would go for an early morning swim every summer day :) The river water is just magnificent. Pancake looks a bit bored sometimes now that he is a big boy. Still an absolute cutie pie. Are their any neighbour dogs to play with? Congrats to Jesse for these perfect chisels.
I remember when y’all kept mending that screen door because pancake kept ruining it 😂I see it’s his door now! Wonderful video, until next time, Arigato ❤
Pancake opening the shoji screen made me laugh! A few seconds before he did I noticed the torn paper and then he opened it!! Animals will do what they want to do!
I can't wait to be in Shikoku for my third time this coming October! I will be doing a bit of work with a bike touring company, which is going to be exciting but I will also have about 20 days to go places I have not yet been in Shikoku (plenty), possibly seeing some friends, making new ones and going canyoning with your friends in Nyodo Adventures! :) Last time there was too much water so I was only able to go kayaking.....which it was still cool!
2:11 kudos to the dog for opening a door 😂
Hadda tell my wife about how adorable that was when I saw it. ♥
What a good boy
pancake start of day
I was thinkin.. paper door with a 4 pieces demaget, what for?..loool now i know """
@@lanehacker5833 Same here! I let out a "ha!" when I saw that!

I suffer from depression and watching your videos gives me inspiration to become a better person, so thank you.
Pancake opening the shoji sliding door like a pro :D

Agreed i also thought that the video was well shot and edited.

16:49 OMG! Pancake doesn't recognize his human. Love how he opens the door.
This video has made me chill up, what a perfect, well-balanced day in the beautiful Japanese countryside! You are living a dream from my perspective!
Thank you for another interesting, peaceful video. Hearing the public radio broadcast and evening bell feels as if it is from another time.
Seeing Jesse so passionate about his work and his success of hardening is so endearing !
Nice forge work and editing ❤

I wasn't expecting to hear Scott Manley's voice in this video lol
Ya! Fly safe.
Hullo!
That was such a lovely video Mika! Now I'm super tempted to order a chisel from Jesse!
Thank you Dylan, it means a lot coming from you! I'm sure Jesse would LOVE to make you a chisel. 😉
Love seeing Pancake, he’s so cute! We live in Japan too and our dog Mikan looks just like him! We got her from a rescue in Hiroshima, so who knows, maybe they’re relatives! 😊 Love the videos, keep up the great work!

such an exceptional video. i love the contrast of the tech/video work vs the blacksmithing, then coming back at the end of the day and doing couples stuff. so good.
I'm interested in woodworking so I was especially interested in how the chisels were made. Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed! I will include a few more blacksmithing shots of the finished chisels in one of the upcoming videos in case you are interested.
@@maigomika absolutely! Thank you.

Thanks for the blacksmithery - been looking forward to seeing the workshop for ages
I will show a tiny bit more in upcoming videos if you are interested. :D
These videos are so relaxing and help me unwind from a busy day at the office. Thank you so much for your hard work and making my day better!
This is a great idea for a video and it turned out really well! Phenomenal shots!
It's nice how you still have a good enough internet to make content and work remotely in a such rural location
The color, shot selection, and overall tone of your videos is spectacular. It is so consistent as well, which is impressive.
This video is wonderful. And I bet your life is much better than what shown in the video.
AWEE PANCAKE IS SO GROWN NOW 😭
welcome back! so happy to see another episode & looking forward to it
What a beautiful and well lived day
the editing here was amazing congrats Mika!
What a peaceful and beautiful life, thank you for letting us be a fly on the wall ^^
And as Scott Manley would say: Fly Safe!
I really need more of these series! I also do day in the life vlog while living in New Zealand as a Singaporean. Your videos are really inspiring!
pancake really has the best life ever with you two!❤
Such a wonderfully calming video about a day in your respective lives. Thanks so much!❤❤❤

For someone like me, Canadian luthier & japanese tools lover, this video is so great! Thanks for this gem!
I really love your videos. They are so well made, calming and interesting. Seeing how a blacksmith makes normal tools was super fascinating. I had never seen that, only medival stuff on ren fairs.
Thank you so much! glad you enjoyed. 😊 I imagine you can see a lot of interesting things at renaissance fairs🤔
It’s so cool that your partner is a bonafide blacksmith. Like, the only time I’ve been a blacksmith was in Final Fantasy. Cool video!
Bwahaha! We're glad to bring a bit of Final Fantasy Japan style to you!
Amazing that Pancake opens the door 😊. I like your RCMP hat.
Interesting video. Many thanks.
Obsessed with pancake kicking open the door
He is very dexterous with that nose.
I love ”a day in the life” videos, and this was so delightful!
Lovely interesting day . Clever pancake !
This one was one of my faves from your channel!!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
I would love to see a Day in the Life of Pancake
One of my favourite videos to date ! I would love to learn more about Jessie's blacksmithing :)
2:10 OMG Pancake!!!
He's can be a scoundrel sometimes 🙄😅
Pancake is just adorable. It is so funny that he opens the door - although, I'll bet it wasn't funny to you at first!
the 3 frogs holding each other .sooo funny🐸

19:00 The frog stack is sooo cute hahaha
I follow Jesse and the carpenter who commissioned those chisels on Instagram. Seeing the process in video format is super super cool 🙏
I will tell him, I'm sure he will be happy to hear you follow both!
So enjoyable to see people living their best lives! 🙏☺️
Encore une vidéo douce amusante et sympathique merci 😊
17:40 Watching some Scott Manley I see! That's a voice I could recognize anywhere...
Awesome edition. Enjoyed seeing Jessie at work too, my grandfather was a blacksmith here in New Zealand
Love to Pancake ❤
So happy for Jesse in this one. I was always a little worried he might not be having enough fun. But this one completely alleviated my fears! So happy for you guys!!! Nothing like a well earned sense of accomplishment.
Gosh I wish I knew how the battle between the 🕷 and the 🦀 turned out 😅
what a wholesome life you guys are living.
Gosh! What a lovely life you live.
Thanks for sharing!
Lovely video! The cinematography looks so cool--great visuals and smooth transitions👌
Sidenote: Having to completely build/disassemble both beds every day would drive me nuts haha
We built it into our routine so we don't even think about it anymore. Easier to vacuum up all the dog hair too 😅
great video. I hope the client is satisfied with the chisels Jess made :)

Fantastic sound editing. Video editing and videography too while I’m at it.
Feels like a work in progress, but trying to make it better each time, so much appreciated, Brannon!

The Japanese way of life is very interesting to Americans. So fun to watch and learn things from your videos.
Wonderful video. Really enjoyed the crossover from home life to blacksmith workshop.
Loved every 20:47 minutes of this, including the music ❤
Glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for sharing 🙏love pancake 🐶❤️
I remember when y’all kept mending that screen door because pancake kept ruining it 😂I see it’s his door now! Wonderful video, until next time, Arigato ❤
Next time I fix that door I will just make sure to cut out a space for this little snout. 🤣
Best ep of 'in the life'🎞🎥😍, blacksmith passion shows thru🔥🔨🥰
incredibly well put together! cannot wait to see more of your wonderful content!
Awesome day in the life! I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Wow, such wonderful skills - both of you! Love you videos. X
Hello Mika. Another amazingly beautiful film of yours 🙌🏼
Thank you very much!
Pretty sure I will love this one... For today I gotta keep it on my Watch Later as I must finish a college assignment... I'll be back soon 😅
Pancake opening the shoji screen made me laugh! A few seconds before he did I noticed the torn paper and then he opened it!! Animals will do what they want to do!
There is no stopping a Pancake when he sets his mind on something. Next time when I fix the door, I will have to make a hole for his snout. 🤣
Lovely video. Thanks for brightening my day.❤
Clever Pancake ❤
That kept me interested. Would have liked to see the blacksmith present the chisels to the carpenter.
I will show the finished chisels in upcoming videos ;D
