  • Not sure if I put this on here. I don't know when I wrote it. It may have been after watching the new Elvis movie. Which, I didn't really like.
If I read it like an idiot. haha Sorry. But I will post the words. I did research for this one. Which, I believe, is the only poem I've ever studied things for.
While Elvis was the inspiration for this, I believe it is about more than just him. It is about growing up. Roles and status. Different types of life and changing.
    Elvis:
    Good old Mississippi 1943
    I was a ten-year-old boy
Being as crazy as I could be
I didn’t have many friends then
But one best friend I found
Was a boy named Elvis Presley
    He was boy
    But also hound
    Yea
    ----
Him and I had fun then
    Neither grew with much mon-ey
    I didn’t know what I wanted to be-come
But I can’t say the same for he
He loved to sing so loud
Dance his hips from left to right
    Way back then oh man
It would give the elders fright
    ----
I know he had a brother
But he never came to be
    So close to his momma
    It was L-O-V-E
    He loved music ya
When he sang you could feel it set you free
    ----
Now many of us have dreams
    We try hard to be
    The best woman or man
    That we can be
It’s not easy to make it
To the top of the heap
But once he had a heartbreak
He was higher than could be
    He was grooving
    Singing every night and everyday
    ----
    Things were going great ya
    Until 57 then
    He got his draft notice
Joined the army like a man
    They took him away ya
    All the way to Germany
    Meet a beautiful soul there
Her name started with a P
    Oh her name was Priscilla
Love notes swept through the air
    Then it was 19
    May 1967 Las Vegas ya
    They got married
    Right in Nev-a-da
    ----
We always talked to each other
    Day by day by day
As the years went by though
I could see him start to change
    He seemed too different now
Then the guy he used to be
    ----
We have a lifes to live
    Good days, bad days to
    Surviving, it ain’t easy
But I think he had the blues
    He was working
Working so much more than his friends
    Then he met a magician
Swore to help him take the pain and put it to an end
    ----
    The magician was man
    The kind you could trust
    Into the life of Elvis
    His potions he did thrust
    All kinds of potions
Just about every kind a man could need
Wake you up in the morning
    Make you sleep at night
    Fill you up from hunger
Take your terrors from your sites
Make you smile when your angry
Cry when you can’t hide a smile
Bright you down so low man
Or have you floating up miles
    In the sky ya
Flying up there way so high up there in the clouds
    ----
It been a while since I saw him
And there he was one day
    I couldn’t speak a word man
    Didn’t know what to say
    My best friend
    Where the hell was, he
This guy looking in my eyes
Was missing the u out of his soul
    ---
We all tried to tell him
    Just stop for a while
For God’s sake you the king man
    Just take off and smile
    Look what you’ve done boy
Got to places no normal man can climb
Your fans will always love you
    Now take some you time
    He muttered some words
    Hard to understand
    His mind had been taken
    From that big magician man
    He got too deep in
Too deep into the magic man’s point of view
    Could barely speak a word
Hard to sing a lick to
    ----
    Time it always passes
    Goes right on by
    The kings heart stopped beating
And there he sat and died
    Oh, he died
Died so young and feeling so low
I guess the magician that he trusted
Had no magic to make his blood flow
    ----
    I will always remember
The call I got on the phone
A friend just said the Kings dead
    And I lost all control
    I cried
I cried for days and days and days
So many all over the world man
Were in the hotel heart break
    ----
    Goodbye to a good friend
    One who was so kind
    Loveed Jesus and his momma
    But just couldn’t hide
From the thing that got him to the top
Kept him up and tied until he was no more
    Thank you, my dear friend,
    For the memories
    Heard from shore to shore
    ----
The music is what took him
    Had him so drug out
Now it’s that music keeps him living
    People still sing and shout
    That’s a shame man
Forever going to sing while people are around
