I’m a firm believer in financially boycotting businesses that do not respect black customers or treat them with dignity and like their welcomed at your establishment. I was so happy to see the way those officers handled the situation with such professionalism and compassion wish we had way more like them.

That’s all fine and good. But our people need to have a standard of excellence! I’ve patronized our people restaurants and they charged us 45.00 for a buffet and the food was old. We asked for fresh food and they tried too play on our intelligence by putting their old food in hot grease to heat it up and we were so dumb that we didn’t know the difference between fresh and recycled food. They didn’t know in our party, there were chefs and they refused to return our money. So, I’m all for supporting our people, but our people has to come correct. I won’t support terrible customer service or terrible food!

This happens to all people, white folk included. I've known of restaurants to trespass folk for sitting too long at a table during peek hours (meaning other patrons with new money can't be served).
It's best to get your documents together and take this establishment to court.

Im a server. Have been for 16 years along with having 2 businesses. But ive never had a problem with anyone who come in our restaurant and sit for hours. I feel like when people go out to have lunch or dinner and even breakfast they do it because its free time. And they wanna enjoy it with the company that they come with. You never know what people have going on or are going through. Ive had a table sit for 5 hours and walked out leaving a 400 tip. Stop running away paying customers. Treat them like family, show them why your restaurant is worth there time and money. I love giving an experience to my customers ❤️💯

@davidfoley726 I don’t know how many French restaurants or over $100 a person restaurants you’ve been to but restaurant protocol is to not tie up the table all night out of respect for the servers and staff working for tips. People who refuse to leave in a descent time frame are called squatters.
Just because music was playing does not mean the tables were expected to turn into a lounge venue for cocktails. The music was intended to be ambiance.
The restaurant should be communicating with them that they have another reservation at that table so they’re aware to be respectful. Not sure if they were told or not.

@@kwilson4125 Nonsense. When a restaurant has live music, people usually stay a while to listen. While they are there, PEOPLE WILL BUY ADDITIONAL DRINKS OR FOOD. THAT makes up for any "occupation" of the table and the added tips. Besides, waitstaff usually works MORE THAN ONE TABLE. They are assigned to a given area, so there is no loss of tips. And places that have live music usually have "seatings" or "shows" and the patrons are told about this IN ADVANCE when they make their reservation and that the show is over when the "set" is over. If people stay, they are charged another Cover Charge. These folks weren't told any of this.
Old-Fashioned discrimination, is exactly what this was. A blast from the horrific past of the Jim Crow Era. Nothing more, nothing less. I hope this dive loses its license to operate. All People of Color should boycott the place.

I am in Orlando, Florida and this type of blatant racism has gotten out of hand here in Central Florida. So sorry you guys experienced this racist mess. @donnafletcher4246 Florida law states that a private business has the right to refuse service but it mostly discusses when customers are acting inappropriate. The cops even said on video that the restaurant had that right. If they refuse to leave when service is refused, it’s a police matter.
No business can refuse on the basis of race BUT since they served them an entire dinner with them already being Black, that will be difficult to prove.
After watching the story about the black professionals being kicked out of the Dovecote Orlando restaurant I read about the restaurant and was shocked to find that it was as a “French inspired “ restaurant. Obviously, the people who own and run the restaurant have never dined in France where in fact, there is no time limit on your restaurant visit and in fact, there is never a complaint that you spent 1 1/2 , 2 1/2 even three hours dining in the establishments. The restaurants are set up such that they only expect one I repeat one table sitting each night. When American tourists visit the restaurants in France and quickly gobbled down their meal and leave it is a financial bonus that that table will have more than one sitting. Tourists often complain that “when are they going to bring the bill “ in France. If you do not ask for the bill, they will not bring it to hustle you out of the restaurant like end the US.
Those are absolute facts..I've dined in Greece, Rome and Florence, Italy and yes you have ask for the check they will not ask if you want the check or bring the check on their own..

In 2021 my family went to an Asian restaurant and they had posted a sign that said, “Time limit to eat is 2 hrs.” It was a buffet setting. We sat down and ate. Ten minutes before the two hours had expired the servers started to clear our tables. We had finished eating but it wasn’t like people were waiting to get to sit down.
I certainly would boycott and avoid this type of restaurant like a plague. I am glad they’re taking legal actions, the racist incident was absolutely disgusting , discriminatory and unacceptable.
The problem is they do this on purpose because they believe they are entitled to white space s without black presence and so while I agree we should never give these establishments our dollars, by not going we facilitate their goal of all white spaces.
I wouldn't boycott. That's what the idiot son wants. What I would do is make a bunch of reservations on their busiest day, have a BUNCH of black people go in, order the CHEAPEST food item on the menu, order water and stay there AT LEAST 2 to 3 hours. Since they want to lie and say we are broke, I'd make it a point to cost them money.

Had an experience with a Dominican restaurant that held my food hostage after I paid. Lady turned her back, took my food and left. Never supported them again. This lady works in the evenings. The other lady who worked days was a sweetheart and she treated me well, but I couldn't support that business again.
When i go to a store and they don't respect me, or my money, no friendly greeting, or no thank u, I don't return!!! Don't let people take your money without giving you the courtesy u deserve!

Why in the email did the owner say he wanted to have a "cordial, polite conversation" with the patrons? He doesn't get to set the tone for the conversation. All he should be doing is apologizing, listening and finding a way to rectify the situation. I did not care for his wording in the email. I have family in Orlando, I'm going to reach out to them so they can spread the word to their friends. Disgusting!

Not really the crime was a false police call. Public servants working in Law 7:50 enforcement not security guards. Should have refused to trespass unless they want a false police report being filed and restaurant’s employee whocall cuffed and arrested. To many businesses call police unnecessary because they aren’t held accountable for unnecessarily calling the police. They were nice and treated people with respect but shouldn’t have allowed racist behavior be rewarded.
The police should walk away from these situations when they discover how ridiculous it is.

Also, we shouldn't have to applaud the officers for doing their job, because they simply did their job. They did what they were supposed to do, remain calm and don't escalate the situation. Great example for other officers with their same hue.

I keep telling people about Florida; they really don't want you there. And even some of the Hispanics that are light or white enough, they try to fit in there too. so my friends and i went to this exact location a just few weeks back in FULL costume after a convention to visit our friend who worked there in the coffee area. i also will say we did not look fancy, we’re horror cosplayers if that gives you any idea. they said NOTHING to us, we were there for a good 40 minutes chatting, and yes for the record we are all white. so this is genuinely sickening and i hope the people in charge lose their jobs.

I visited a venue in Chicago, called "Andy's Jazz Club", the service and treatment was so friendly and hospitable. The venue has live music, dinner, and drinks as well. They are amicable to all cultures of people. I was never told a time limit, and I am Black.I would recommend, this location to everyone visiting Chicago.
9/19/23 - I have been trying to reach this restaurant by phone for the last 5 hours and 45 minutes. It is clear that they are not answering their phones as a result of Roland Martin’s reporting.
I truly wanted to have a personal word with the owner or the manager to let them know that after the Montgomery Brawl, African Americans are no longer going to accept the disrespect that we have kept a blind eye to this kind of disrespect for over 400 years.
I will be contacting all of my family, friends and colleagues to boycott this restaurant. It has been proven that the best way to get businesses and people to listen is to have a large group to negatively effect their incoming dollars or reputation.

Florida is an extremely racist state; the NAACP also made light of this earlier this year. I'm from that area as well, unfortunately born and raised in Daytona Beach(but also spent time in the Orlando area). So I know the vibes there, and how to move. I left that area in late 2020 for California, and haven't look back since. In a short period of time living an amazing life and happily married. Believe you me, the difference is night and day.

They won't - it is standard practice to ask patrons to vacate at a reasonable time upon completion of their meals. Most people don't realize this because most people don't linger incessantly during peak business hours.

As a former server for many years, I can tell you that restaurants make their money on the alcohol drinks and extras that are sold and sure, even a few big tickets items on the menu. Plus $600 for their group meal means they probably paid more than the average dining guest would have for the same time spent at that table. Also I heard there was LIVE entertainment which means typically people stick around to watch/listen to the performance.
