Wow you just took me back 25 years. I used to work in those sky pigs, but at that time there was nothing in the world that could go nose to nose with the F-14 twin tail cat, still a gorgeous lady, ashame they didn’t give her the modifications, and upgrades that were originally made for her to step into, it would blow your mind but there is another model of F-14 fixing to be unveiled. Gotta shut up.
I watched the build of this. Estimated costs around 35k total (including radio and turbines), and I 100% get nervous about that test flight. ONE thing goes wrong and a small car in costs is mostly eliminated... for good.
@@thelightersideofrc This is why I keep building smaller RC stuff and will never do a turbine... maybe if I had "stupid money"... but I'll keep working on my Bates 1/5th SBD...
VF 41 Black Aces and VF 84 Jolly Rogers were the 1st Tomcats to fly off Nimitz 77-78 Med my last deployment, the continued to deploy on Nimitz well into the 90s.
Brilliant all round ! Love the captioned comments by Kool on these maiden flights ( please add more ! ) - always something to be learned from experienced pilots.
I’ve loved RC planes since I was a little guy back in the ‘60’s . I’ve always wondered though about how the operator knows when the craft is low on fuel ? It’s probably a stupid question for seasoned experts, but I’ve never had the opportunity to fly a craft and learn the basics . Thanks .
Great question! So typically it's done on time. You may do the first flight with 5 min on the timer, land and check levels. If you can add another minute or 2 it is usually visible in remaining fuel volume. Now, many turbines as part of the telemetry will show fuel volume used/remaining. So you can program 5L of tank volume, setup various warnings, 50% remaining, 30% etc. Very accurate and helpful!
This brings back so many memories of watching this magnificent plane flying around the Kitty Hawk when I was on watch, and I would have a little free time! Thank you guys!
VF 41 has the ace of spades on its tail but no letters on it. It was my squadron from 78 to 81...named "The black Aces" squadron left over from WW2. As far as I know, it's the only squadron using " ace of spades". 100 through 114. 100 was call numb nuts and 111 was Triple sticks.
I’m a 30-year RC’er, planes and helicopters. Been considering getting into turbine jets. With this XXL F-14, I’m curious to know what the cost in fuel per 10-15 minute flight. With twin turbines burning kerosene, I would imagine it’s not cheap.
The larger aircraft with twins will go through 4 - 5 L per flight per engine. so if your 10L per flight it's about 20 -30 in fuel costs plus oil so maybe 30 - 40 per flight.
Any thoughts on what caused the initial gear issue? Personally, I wouldn't fly it again until I felt confident the problem was resolved. But I'm chicken. 😳 But loved seeing it in the air.
Man I would love to fly this. I love the F-14, I never got to fly the real one BUT in Topgun Hard Lock on Xbox, im 1st place nation wide in every category, AND in Ace Combat 6 and 7, im beating the breaks off my opponents. With the F-14 D in Ace Combat 7, I actually won 1st place in a free for all. Its a big deal because I didn't know you could hyper mod every aspect of the fighter in Player vs Player mode, and I had no mods at all.
Followed since u got it. Congratulations and what an amazing aircraft! Man that landing I watched 5x times. That turn radius and smooth landing. Crazy! Really needs an onboard camera!
With that cost, you could have bought a super tele-zoom lens..which cost less than a thousand..that will give your viewers more joy in seeing it bigger up there..
AWESOME AIR CRAFT I wonder , do you have airspeed indicator to know V1 V2 V3. . . . . It stopped rapidly on landing ? ? ? does it have brakes ? ? ?It moves with the grace of a real plane, are there adjustment to control the reaction time for the servos. . ? ?
Yes the aircraft has an pitot tube air speed sensor. Yes it has air powered brakes on main wheels. Everything is fully adjustable and customizable from the radio.
❤😂😢😮😮😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 hell yeah that was awesome. I like to see it right in front of me, man that’s a good pilot flying that with the control. I don’t think I could do that but that is tough.
Call me old school, but a first flight should also include a relatively high slow flight, high alpha, and maybe an approach to stall to see the behavior in those regimes of flight. Will high alpha cause a flame out, will it abruptly snap at a higher airspeed than anticipated, things like that. Yes it makes a beautiful fly by no doubt, but how is control response at high alpha slow speed, what is the throttle to angle of attack profile like. I always want to know my flight envelope on both ends of the spectrum. Look into a full size EAA flight syllabus and take a few points to import into your first flights. Make it a real test flight. Not to take away from your awesome job of building and flying that big critter. Also as a old school Naval Aircrewman, love the Tomcat.
I believe the same pilot who flew this jet already has experience flying the same model so he most likely already knows how it’s going to fly. I could be wrong. This channel has another video of this exact same model in red and it looks like the same pilot flying it
Same pilot did the maiden of the first one last year. That one was the smaller version. For a Pilot like KOOL all of the extra stuff is not needed at all. First flight. Get it up and trimmed in all conditions and get it down safe. No time for anything more than that generally.
❤❤😂🎉😢😢😢😮😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 that is Hella sweet I wish it was close so I could see that. Hope you have any more videos like that. Keep up the good work and take care and have a good week.

Just build one big enough you can get in and fly yourself? Lol. How much fuel does it hold and how much does that cost? I saw you weigh it and you said 100 pounds, but was that total weight or just the fuel?
Thanks! This video is NOT for someone like you! It's for those that have followed the assembly of this beautiful model and want to see the first flight! First flights on an aircraft are never exciting!

Wonderful to see this outstanding depiction of such a magnificent aircraft, one of the greatest fighter jets of all time.

Great to see her in the air - so stable when wings are swept!
For sure! Always a happy day when you sweep the wings and they come forward again as they are supposed to!😂
@@thelightersideofrc What about the CG position with sweeping wings ? Does it stay at the same place or different trimming needed ? Thanks, David.

What do you recommend to start practicing before flying one of those? Do you use two people to fly that?
EDF or a sports jet is a great starting point. 2 people are not needed to fly it.

for the first flights it's nascar only.

@@thelightersideofrc but that’s one of the best parts! Best sound in the world are turbines starting up!

Does that thing have real jet engines in it
It does! 2 x 240N miniature turbine engines!
Has anyone gotten a top speed reading?
Not a fast plane.
Flies like a slow bus. But sweet
Gentle flier!
Do the wings swing ?? If not then just a waste of time and $$$ imo. It is nice though I wouldn't have spent the $$ and time
Maybe instead of watching just long enough to make a stupid comment you should watch the wing swing portion of the flight! Just a thought!
