Contracts in the NBA are based on players' skill, team need, market, and timing. We have seen a lot mammoth contracts given to players just because they hit free agency at the right time, mainly in 2016 when the new TV deal caused a huge spike in the salary cap. However, NBA GM's have gotten more careful recently, because everyone realized the consequences of overpaying role players like Timofey Mozgov and Bismack Biyombo. That being said, there are still some bad contracts in the NBA. Here are the current top 10 undeserving salary cap gobblers.

Some of these players contracts at first were pretty damn solid but then injuries just destroyed their productivity.

Seems unfair if they bass it off injuries. They should look at the contracts players were given, but didn't deserve. Players can deserve the contract if they are healthy.

Exactly, I feel like situations like these contracts with all the injuries are why NBA players agents (or whoever represents) gets them contracts that have the cap but also have a minimum, so if they get injured they still get some money.

He averaged 21.9 5.4 3.5 on great efficiency, those are good numbers are good, but not in the same tier as other superstars. Hayward was a lower tier all star player, still good but not super special that he is worth the max, when he signed the contract he became one of the highest payed players in the league right next to all the superstars in the league. However, now the max is worth nothing, players like Harris and Murray have signed it, but at the time Hayward signed it, it was too much money for the Celtics to throw on him

hayward this season is pretty underrated. he averages around seventeen points with great effiency as 4th option. he's also a good defender and playmaker. on another team with a bigger role he would've been an allstar this year.

Sometimes the best ability is availability. No one is saying Griffin can't play, but paying max dollars to a guy who's often injured is a bad investment, no matter how good he is.

Hayward is averaging 20+ PPG weeks before the lockdown and he's not even at fault why he got injured. You're wrong on that one.
What people tend to gloss over about Hayward is that he has a case at being our (Boston's) best overall player. On top of being a smooth scorer, he is also a very nice playmaker on the wing and a solid defensive player. On any given night he can take the keys and be a go-to scorer, he simply doesn't do it a lot bc he embraces his role as a piece of the system. Guys like that who can do it all as well as Hayward aren't that easy to come by
Injuries or no injuries a lot of these players where overpaid. Players like LeBron, Durant, Kawhi, Curry to name a few only deserve max contracts this high
Even they don't deserve that kind of money, sport is for entertainment and fun, not something without you can't live, Corona just showed us and exposed that to a lot of people. How much then we should pay doctors, engineers and firefighters, peoples who are saving lives, fights against nature, improving our life in every aspect and when things go wrong we turn to them not to Curry, LBJ, Durant, Kawhi etc.

The blame should go to Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment. They purchased the 76er's in 2011. Since then, they're on their 3rd GM. "The Process" was/is a bust. Tanking multiple seasons in order to stock up on draft picks hasn't worked out so well for Philly. The fans are die hard and deserve way better than this mess.

Hayward makes the Celtics go. He’s a superstar who’s ok playing a role. Him and Kemba both have just decided to be lesser players to win. I think that’s pretty unique situation. He’s kind of a beast though efficiency wise, creates Mia matches everywhere, crashes boards hard, and best playmaker on team.

“Ceiling is the roof for Charlotte”, yeah that Rozier contract says otherwise. Zeller is still on the books for another year too. They’re not a FA destination. Their ceiling is about 3 inches above the floor.

everybody on gordon hayward saying he isn't a max contract player even though he has been extremley close to being one this year. He has provided valuable scoring for the first team when tatum and brown are missfiring and has prooved a solid contributor defensivley as well. I think he deserves his current contract for now, but in the future weather he goes back to the jazz (if the jazz want to get rid of rudy to remove any ill will between himself and donovan mitchel after this whole virus has gone away) or stays he should probably get close to or even a little less than his current contract.

Gordon Hayward for sure. Man was that guy overrated because of his short time in Utah. Never was the playmaker, knockdown shooter, or defender to earn that contract from Boston. Even Charlotte overpaid for him and yes I get he was hurt badly in Boston but that just makes what Charlotte did more ridiculous. Maybe it was the injury but I just never thought the guy was that special. Boston was clearly better when he was off the floor. Boy it’s crazy how Boston was celebrating their next championship with that Kyrie and Gordon Hayward tandem. Now there both gone but hey they still got Tatum and Brown and that’s a hell of a solid core.
For the most part, these are fair evaluation. But to say Gordon Hayward is only number 4 on one of the top 4 teams in the league and one of the youngest is a bad deal. Neither the Clippers or the Lakers have such a "terrible" 4th option.
