The damage they deal is high but the enemy scaling is much higher. Campaign mode you can overpower just about anything but in the DLC and dungeon multiplayer levels you needed that damage and pure damage sometimes wasn't enough. In patapon 2 you just fought troops and they were easy to steamroll and the secret to beating most of the boss monsters was having a high stagger. Also Hero tatepon made you indestructible.
I don't entirely know either but what I do know is that the maker of the game didn't want to make sequels that didn't introduce anything new or interesting and it shows. The first game had the basic concept and it was straight forward. The second one refined everything adding RPG elements for complexity. And then the third changed the basic setup slightly and added even more RPG elements to it. It was an artistic choice and I respect that all day everyday.
I like them both. With the large armies it was pretty easy to over power enemy troops by just having the whole team a certain type of patapon. This one doesn't allow for such stacking and makes setups at a lot more thoughtful than just min maxing.
kacchindonga is still the hardest non-DLC BOSS. I Defeated the Gigante King Very-Easily. While when i try kacchindonga, I need to do no mistake. I also defeat Kacchindonga, but on the 8TH time.:D
Hmm... One thing I do recommend, is that you use a very high + leveled stagger axe for Tondenga. Nothing stands a chance against that. Also, do you have your PSP anymore? If so, could you do like, the music for each level? Or, the theme for each level? I always liked the Patapon themes. Especially in Patapon 3.
Haven't you noticed that the three champions exceeds the patapons of patapon 2 even if they are at full power? imagine having a critical of 55,000 or more rather than 4,000 critical x 6 which is rare.

this is actually quite easy, just get the greatshield guy to lv 32, use his lv 32 skill on ure uber hero and u will never die again(Except if touched by fire)

I still find cannassault to be one of the most broken units on the game, monster-hunting wise. Build crit with him. My setup: Susurabapon+13, critical chariot +32, bunny hood+15 Critical+ and peerless bird as must-get set skills. I 999999 Hited kachindonga with his hero mode. 5 times. in a row. That was about it for the ice dragon. of course I had help with a poison-team, but stll...

for chin, Grenburr is rarely usefull, chin is mostly for defense so i suggest you take Guadira(high defense+low damage) Myamsar(low defense+high damage) or Tondenga(medium defense+medium damage)
