"They're playing in a damn parking lot...it's not supposed to be that good!" Jeff, welcome to F&F. Unlikely. Surprise. Out of the blue. I'm an F&F fan and deeply enjoy and appreciate your reactions.
Absolutely agree, Rick, about F&F and Jeff's reactions. You KNOW how I feel about this band. The members of the band are all as down-to-earth and approachable as they seem in their videos. Just nice people making outstanding music!
Bass player (mandolin here) Scott King (RIP) was a big fan of great female vocalists and a huge supporter of the girls in this group. From comments on the channel he was displeased/puzzled that they couldn't get many bigger venues to play at when The Mustangs ( same musicians/ Amy vocals) venues would book. Probably didnt believe a couple local teenagers could sound this good.
They did this off the Dixie Chicks Version. Ralph, Thanks a Million for going down the F.F. "Rabbit Hole" Jeff, I know you love their Harmonies! I think their BEST Harmony is "Helplessly Hoping" by C.S.N. Never heard better and it was their First Take of it!! Others "Carry On" by C.S.N., "Seven Bridges Road" Eagles = Awesome Harmonies. And "You Can't Hurry Love" by the Supremes!! Just a Genuine Band from Georgia. They are worth the Trip Down The Rabit Hole!! Thanks Jeff your Channel is the Best!!.................
I am back again. I must have watched your reaction to this 30 times. It gets me every single time! That said, I've probably watched their video of this several hundred times over the years and I am still amazed at how good it is.
Telling Me Lies is a cover of The Trio (Harris, Parton and Ronstadt). One of my favorites is Tim and Sammie doing a father/daughter duet on Love Hurts. It’s only Tim on acoustic guitar with Darwin on electric guitar on a short interlude.
@Worrell057 Yes for sure since Linda is one of my all time favorite female singers. When I first heard the FF version it seemed like Sammy was a bit overshadowing Maggie during the backup harmonies but after a few listens, I'm good with their version.
Thanks Jeff, you made my morning! I love the Fleetwood Mac version. I mean Stevie Nicks voice and Lindsey Buckingham's guitar work are outstanding. But with the mandolin and harmonies this version feels a bit more upbeat and hopeful to me. Every time I listen to this I am amazed at Sammie's high harmony, especially the note she hits on "children get older". It just sounds so good. In case you didn't notice, the drummer (Johnny Pike) was playing bass and the bass player (Scott King) was playing the mandolin. And yes. In a parking lot. It was actually in front of a taco shop. I've never been there but I am sure @lynwessel2471 can tell you more about the location.
All I know is it was near Tims house. A friend of a friend owned it and Tim convinced him to let them play there. I don't think they normally had bands playing there, F&F played 11 times. Its a small patio maybe 25 people plus more listening from inside the restaurant. The join patreon video shows how small and the road noise. Tim and Toby knew how to get good recordings in spite of it.
@@jeffreylemm8049 I think it closed by 2014. Last of 11 F&F gigs was in 2013, If it still had the same owner they would have played there in 14 -17 because he would let them play on short notice whenever they wanted. It was sushi and steak restaurant when Maggie filmed the join patreon video in 2020
This song showcases all three of the foxes vocal talents and is quite breathtaking! I'm still waiting for them to cover something by SheDaisy so they can really put their three part harmony to the test!
I have been listening to Foxes and Fossils since 2012. They just keep better. It has been a joy to see the girls grow up and get better and better. The Fossils continue to display their excellent talents as musicians and singers. They have such a varied repertoire, and every song is great. I think this was the patio of a Taco restaurant near Atlanta. They mostly do studio work now, but they still occasionally do live performances. They have 3 female singers now ( for a few years now) Their bass player passed away from cancer a few years ago. The new bass player is just as talented.
@@rgoers Like the motorcycle on one . Fit so perfectly that I thought Tim was doing a sound effect on the keyboard when I heard it the first time. Concentrating on the singers I didn't even see it go by. Of course Tim left it in intentionally, said he may have turned it up a little. They could remove virtually all the noise from the recording if they wanted..Manually went thru each mic track and muted it when it wasn't in use. Simple but took a lot of time to do it.
@@lynwessel2471 listeners typically don't consider the engineering that goes on to create a media product. You reminded me and others how much goes on after the performance! You folks are a treasure to listen to 😊
@@peterkoeppl Toby ran live sound until 2014. He said first and foremost was a good performance for the live audience. If they happened to get a good recording of it great. If they got noticed on YT good but they weren't even monetized. They did have 2 cds for sale at that point. About the time they quit in 2017 that they started getting noticed and led to their return in the studio in 2019.
Yes, that is a good one too. The problem is they have about 50 that I consider to be great. I've been selecting songs for Jeff that try to highlight different aspects of the group. Live vs Studio, different leads, genres, etc.
Plus, there is both a studio recording of it released here as well as their 2022 reunion concert performance of it that is not on TH-cam (yet?) but is available on their website as digital download or CD, and the whole concert vid at Patreon, which featured an extra Fox and more instruments.

Keep the Foxes and Fossils coming. Another winner for these old ears! I never knew the title of this one. Amazing!
The drummer playing bass, and the bassist on mandolin. Versatility!
I think we're all in love with Maggie.
Amazing harmonies of voices beautiful vocals too.
What a delightful song to hear this morning. Thanks!!.
Holy crap is right! Big time fan here!
Absolutely gorgeous

an awesome group of pickers and singers. they do awesome CSN & Y, too.
hey yeah no tats and fancy rings ,just natural beauty and music
Yeah, they were playing outside at a Taco joint near where they live in GA. Some of the best live songs from this venue.
Another great song from that performance and venue I absolutely love is a Linda Ronstadt cover of "I Can't Let Go". Awesome stuff.

One word......... Perfection!
Those harmonies tear me up every time.
It's wholesome.
Those girls have great pipes. Love it❤
Man, you lately have been playing all the cover bands that make up about 75% of my playlist any more. Keep em coming.
Don't worry. I've requested LOTS more.
Just WOW.
@brianmchale6668 - There performance or Jeff's reaction!?

Love these kinds of videos. So honest
I feel like this is a cover of the Dixie Chicks' cover of the Fleetwood Mac original. In any case, it is outstanding.

Twisted Taco, Smyrna, GA. This one permanently closed per website.

That place is the patio area of the Twisted Taco restaurant. Gone now, I think. Back when the girls were about 17 & 18.
Different ownership. It was a sushi and steak place when they did the join patron video.
Telling Me Lies is Trio (Ronstadt/Harris/Parton) One of the songwriters Linda Thompson liked it so much that she is a member of the F&F fan page.

Superb acoustics for the venue. Super rendition 🎉
Recorded directly off the soundboard, mixed in the studio and synched to the edited 3 camera video.
Despite why Lyn said above in several of the videos the noise from the parking lot is noticeable, and in a few cases comical.

You've got some great listening to do!
Sammie is an amazing harmony singer. Go back and watch her vary her distance from the mic to maintain the blend when she was singing louder or softer.
Find Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - it will blow you away!

Damn, that was fantastic.
Nice reaction
This is definitely the Dixie Chicks version of the song. Right down to the vocal arrangements
Thank goodness for Ralph!!
Well... Thanks!
How could you hear that band and not either just stop and listen or figure out how to get a seat so you can see the show.
I watched this again. Jeff, you really need to the title of this to "Its not supposed to be that good!"
Thinking of Beth Neilson Chapman and her song "Avalanche".
Unassuming, straight forward - I can't think of one of their videos that is not.
TH-cam put an ad in with just one word left in the song, what bs.
Maggie and Sammie cute but not overly sexual it works
