    Thanks for Rob. I'm glad we don't a hard freeze down here.

    The part where you’re holding up the cat litter bin of tomatoes. The background of the sky thru the green house makes it look like you’re on some alien planet in a biome. 😂

    Put those green tomatos in a box with a banana or other ripe or over ripe tomatos. They should turn red for you. Its a good way to stagger your ripened suplies towards the end of the harvest.

    thanks for sharing all your experience . here in aus another slave country one thing we do have is really cheap solar . if you can get land here you can then almost get solar panels free. DIY what ever you like then .im on 1/4 acre and i have 6.6kw on roof and 4.5kw around my aquaponics . still not enough to try to heat the water during our winter. i wonder what i would need i think like 30kw dedicated to just heating mayby that not even enough because you let less energy in winter .

    Hi, how much water gallons and total biomass are inside the fish tank (which fish are you using?) ; and how many leafy greens and fruiting crops it can support? Very interesting channel.

    So the fish are ok? I wonder how much water I need for outdoor fish to make it thru the winter. Have you experimented with small outdoor fish set ups? Are you using a water heater for the fish? Did you drain the water out of the dwc bed?

      I keep the system filled with water and heat it to about 37F. The fish are fine and just wait for spring. Around here, people with outdoor ponds usually need to have an area at least 3 feet deep where it won't freeze.

    What are you using for grow plugs for your lettuce in the DWC? I've been using rockwood but I don't like it touching the lettuce so I snip it all off when I harvest? I'd like to use something that we can put right in the bag with the lettuce head, with the roots wrapped around the grow plug, to keep the lettuce fresher, longer.

    Good 👍, but can you pls tell me the tomatoes plants space intervals and in aquaponics DWC system can tomato produce through out the year or more. Thanks

    Неплохо, не понятно только почему не взять зеленые помидоры на дозревание, у меня почти все краснеют.
    Ну или можно сделать из них соус или консерву.
    Корни конечно у помидор - Огонь!

    You can use the unripe tomatoes to make chowchow.

    What is the taste of tomatoes grown in aquaponics? Is there any difference with tomatoes grown in the soil? When the fruit ripens, the plant needs considerably more potassium than nitrogen. Is it possible to keep these proportions?

      They are excellent tomatoes. This is what one of my customers said: "I’m pretty much a pasta sauce snob and prefer to buy Rao’s sauce. Well, that changed this summer when I was introduced to your Amish paste tomatoes. They make the best sauce. I’m thrilled you have more available so I can make another batch"

    The only thing I have found to permently remove mice from an area they like is cats. I have done all kinds of trapping, but it seems when I get them all out, more move in. With cats, the mice leave and never come back. My guess is the sent of the cats drive them off...those that survive at least.

    Have you ever had your water tested for micro plastics? I'd be interested in seeing how much, if any, is there. Also curious to see if the plants pick them up.

    • @Bigelowbrook
      @Bigelowbrook  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure the whole world has micro plastics. Even many the organic farmers use plastic sheet covering for mulch. If you want to pay for the test, I"ll send out a water sample. ;-)

      @@Bigelowbrook Unfortunately, I think you are right that they are everywhere. As someone who farms organically (not certified) I struggle with how frequently I use plastic mulch, drip tape, etc. Both the unknown of the micro plastics and the waste as it breaks down and needs replacement. But it is undeniable how much those things help with production. Anyway, no judgement, just curiousity. I have been watching since the geo desic greenhouse build. Thanks for all the informative videos over the years.

    Could you cover the small plants with plastic like a mini green house? Being protected by the big green house a couple grow lights should keep it pretty warm.

    • @Bigelowbrook
      @Bigelowbrook  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've thought about it. One of the issues is we don't have much light either so I probably would have to install lighting too. $$$

      @@Bigelowbrook I am planning an aquaponics system and realized I could build a green house (grow room) inside the main building and keep it what ever temp I wanted. I get a lot of wind and some snow in Ohio so an outside green house needs to be pretty strong.

    The price of second hand cryptocurrency mining ⛏️ rigs drop, but it looks like there going back up again, there's simple ways of extracting heat from the rigs and help cover the cost of heating the water just a suggestion. The rodent problem have you tried cayenne Pepper 🌶️ powder along the edges of the beds.
    You scared me I thought you were thrown in the towel on your green house adventures.
