The reason the stalk is better is NOT because we are used to it, it’s because it’s in a FIXED position which is key for safety It shouldn’t change as you are steering and in America, our roundabouts turn left and the signal button somewhere at the bottom (your lap) when turning would be tough to find and dangerous

    • @twelvebears1971

On the second drive I encountered smaller radius roundabouts and it was clear it is a problem. I drove it a 3rd time as I really thought I could get used to it but a constantly moving target is impossible to find without taking your eyes off the road. I love the new Model 3 and how it improves on almost all aspects from the previous model. But having the turn signals that rotate along with the wheel has got to be the dumbest design I’ve seen. It’s unsafe and degrades the driving experience. This is minimalism gone too far.

Will not be getting it and even went into a store asking for a 2023 version used car and made it clear it was because of the lack of stalks that I would not get the new car. So with practice, you know where to look to find the turn signals. I have never had to look for a turn signal in 50 years of driving. I don't have to pre-think it either. It is entirely instinctual at this point. We have enough people in the States that can't be bothered with using turn signals in the first place. Making them harder to use is not going to help.

Switching between drive and reverse for 3-point turns and parallel parking isn't just about speed (although it is), is also about having to take your eyes away from the road. That's especially an issue with tight parallel parking or when there are lots of pedestrians, e.g. dropping the kids at school.

A problem is that you have the habit to let your hands slide all over the steering wheel continously. Even in shallow turns you constantly let the steering wheel glide through your hands, which is in my opinion not necessary. Just grip the wheel at 9 and 3 o'clock and make the turn, with one or 2 hands. This is saver anyways as the airbag may cause your hand to hit your face in an accident.

I have just got my new Model 3 RWD and no indicator stalks. I love the buttons and find them super simple to use. Lots of roundabouts in the UK! Majority have the wheel at 90 degress max, so no problem to press a button. The other benefit is cancelling a turn signal. The problem with stalks is you tap it to turn it off but it triggers the opposite side and potentially then again. With the buttons it is a single press to turn it off if it has not cancelled, and they seem to cancel a lot more consistently than any of my older cars that had stalks. had them for past 38 years!

Like your review of driving without stalks and how you got used to it. Loved the Pooch co-driver more, in fact so much i had to replay the video because i concentrated on your dog so much i phased out with what you were saying 🤣🤣

2 month on and still dislike indicators buttons. I have green and red sticker on buttons which helps on roundabouts. I would happy to pay £1000 for standard indicator stick. I think Tesla have made great car apart from indicators. Would I buy another Tesla with steering wheel indicator No way. The wiper button I can live with and use voice commands for wiper speed. Doing 5 mile Kwh with LFP battery this time of year.

Well gee whiz......who woulda thunk that sufficient numbers of cars could go down an assembly line.......... miss out on control stalks......and still get through the PDI process......and then STILL BE SOLD to enough buyers......... who didn't notice.......for long enough to give the impression that it was successful inspite of the incompetence.
How else can you explain this idiocy ?!.

just a tesla fanboy review of a grossly misplaced design. if you have to take off your eye to indicate then you are most distracted at the most vulnerable moment of driving ! and imagine the confusion if you indicate incorrect at the roundabout, just imagine the chaos
